So.. we got some Garmin users in our group? Perhaps we could arrange for a friendly step competition?

My son has a Fitbit, and I thought about getting one... but does that mean I have gotta wear both? Do I get credit for both? 😜

    NO ZERO DAYS

It is a really simple idea. Every day, do one thing towards better health of any kind. One good food decision. One bit of exercise. One deep breathing session to calm down the stress. One little thing. No day can have zero of those. Of course, any day can have more than one! But at the end of the day, there has to be just one. I'll find the post in the other team to get more examples.

Let the team know what your one thing was. Try hard not to have a zero day, even if it is just 5 minutes stretching before bed, or saying no to a soda and drinking water instead. Whatever. I hope it helps relieve the stuck feeling, because that one is no fun at all.

Thank you, @jugar That is a fantastic idea!

I have a Garmin and would love a friendly group competition :) There used to be a free app called Stridekick which allowed you to register any fitness watch and compete but it seems like it's no longer free :(

    Thursday weigh-in

    CW 188.6
    PW 178.2

@jugar As you know I pretty much weigh in rain or shine ;) It's ugly but it saves you the suspense later

Brad will definitely not until we return home - he doesn't like to think about it

Good reading all the posts. I’ve been logging under. My weight is down but up a tiny bit from my low as I have been able to eat again.

Love the photo Ashley and Brad. @LoraineGB We have so much in common. Age, weight, set points. Moving.

My eyes still are not right. So looking at my screen is not great fun. I’m also so dry. We have that cold, cold air coming this weekend.

Looking forward to a loss this week.

    Off to get some zzzzzs.

Micki.. what’s still going on with your eyes!??
I forget did the doctor just say it was an ocular migraine or something else?

Yesterday was a good day, I even did some exercise when I got home before dinner was ready, it was some app I downloaded years ago, called Lose Belly fat, It was just some simple exercises that you do 3 rounds of.

I did not snack at all, I wanted popcorn, but started perusing books for my next read, and of course lost track of time, so it was too late... But I might have to switch books. This book was disturbing, and I am not sure I want to continue it... Got rave reviews, was a best seller, but it's dark and disturbing and yeah I don't know... It's called My Absolute Darling...

Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day ! :)

    Hey @bobagurl2017 , me, @PlaneMonkey , and @ashleycarole86 I think all have Garmins as well :)

Here's my profile link if you want to add! I'd be happy to connect!

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/1ffa5928-5ee1-4ac5-a2cf-30260558c0a6

Admittedly, I probably fall short of most of you with steps, but I like to think I make up for it with my other daily exercise (lifting daily, 15-30 min walk, yoga 3-4x/wk, and then HIIT and Pilates on alternating days to round it all out).

I'd also love to know more about personal experiences with Lumen from anyone who has tried it. I see that they have something for health professionals that has me intrigued. I'm going to have to read some peer-reviewed journal articles because if I remember correctly from school, this method is used more for checking diabetes status in regards to DKA, but Lumen says not to use if you have DM. Technically doubly-labeled water is the gold standard for measuring metabolic rate, but indirect calorimetry is the most commonly used one, although it's more involved and specific than Lumen. If the studies (preferably done through a non-affiliated third party and not Lumen themselves) can convince me, then I might think about incorporating it into practice with my patients. Right now though all of our docs are dishing out Ozempic like they're Oprah at Christmas which makes me scream into the void on a daily basis. However, I've talked to some of our med staff about not doing that and the Pharmacy supervisor has agreed to not fill the Rx's unless the person actually has DM. Getting back to the topic of lumen, however, if it's something that can facilitate my patients who actually want to make the lifestyle changes, I may consider looking into it for them. I'm just not a fan of IF or Keto, so if it promotes either of those, I'll probably pass. Sorry for the rant, but those of us in the nutrition field spend a lot of time trying to reeducate people who are confused by the constant barrage of information from unqualified people trying to sell things.

This is exactly why I'm so careful with the professionals I work with. There are some great, really knowledgeable and experience unqualified people out there, but if you aren't lucky enough to find a good one, the time it takes for us to realise that actually they aren't decent can be hugely detrimental to our health.

I'm in a fortunate position that I can afford to see specialists in several areas. Experience shows me that I need a range of suitably qualified professionals and then my non-professional support time (family, friends, you lovely people) if I'm going to do this.

Oh to win the lottery and be able to focus on my health full time!

Hi Diana, he said everything checks out fine. They are saying ocular migraine, but I definitely notice a blurriness in that eye since the event. I went back and told him that. Did some more tests. Said everything looks good, but my eyes are dry and he suggested eye drops over the counter. I don't know. I've had lots of headaches too, which is not normal for me. I think it's my brain trying hard to see through the blurry.

I really need to drag my exercise bike out of the garage. I am getting no extra exercise. Just my day at work with 16 4 and 5 year olds. At lease I could ride while we watch tv like you @jugar. I also need to check my blood pressure. That will be my "No Zero" thing today.

Have a great one my friends!

@Gidgitgoescrzy I have Atomic Habits that I'm working on. Non-fiction though. Not sure if you were looking for fiction or any book.

Some great losses the last few days - Great job @conleywoods @ashleycarole86, @DD265, @39flavours

Love the discussions this week and look forward to hearing more about the Lumen

As much as I was back in old habits last night snacking after dinner I didn't let that get me down about getting back up and drinking the water and walking the dog this morning. Fresh air seems to give me some clarity about moving forward not dwelling on the past

I'm excited for the weekend as we have a winter festival that's a block from our house. There's a load of light displays through the creek and it's magical walking at night. Will be going with the family getting our exercise outside.

THIS!!!! Wouldn't that be a dream?? I've had a crap day with work (mostly not focusing on the actual work or accomplishing ANYTHING) and it would be so wonderful for it all to melt away with the millions on a lotto win to focus on health, self-care, and (for me) rescuing cats. Ohh, and playing hockey. That's up there too.

@jugar are you getting the wind along with the deep freeze? ours has already begun. we will be hunkered down until Sunday hoping the power stays on and nothing freezes solid!

I found myself emotionally snacking this afternoon. I reined it in, and did my plank challenge to compensate but I haven't been drinking my water. That's supposed to be the easiest box to check off on my habit tracker. better get on it!!

I'm mostly upset these days over things that aren't within my control, so I should focus more on being diligent with those things that ARE. THAT would be my self-care.

@PlaneMonkey That is so exciting you are in a smaller size! Congrats that is really exciting. You guys don't have Target in Canada!!!😳😳😳 I seriously love Target. When I'm stressed at work I have a few places I go on my lunch break to recharge: the greenhouse, the pet store to admire baby guinea pigs or Target!

We used to have Target but it was short lived and didn't survive (I think it was around 2013 it arrived then went bust within 2 years). It didn't have the same deals and products as the US stores so people didn't flock to it. It's a shame, because Target over the border is a worthwhile shopping trip.

I have that, I bought it last year and read it. Which is why I rarely drink now.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

@bobagurl2017 Yes like @MoonlitMuse said I am a Garmin user and @bowens1973 is too.. always happy for any challenges!

@DD265 you are so right about the office getting us more steps than working from home.. I have to try so hard to get a reasonable amount of steps at home whereas just the process of being at the office adds a ton

Today we did a really cool zipline where we got to go Superman style on our bellies flying towards the Pacific ocean 80 storeys high at speeds of 60 miles per hour. It was a blast. Steps at almost at 10K again.. this trip has been easily 10-20K a day.. we are definitely staying active! I always bloat like crazy on trips.. the plane.. the sun.. and naturally the excess. I am not being a good little soldier of healthy living on this trip, clearly..

In moments like these where it would be easy to be really mad at myself I just remind myself that old me wouldn't have made any effort to be active, drink water, etc...

I wasn't where I wanted to be when I left so I'll have more work when I get home but for now I'll do the best I can.
