Are you hearing all the energy bubbling up? Who needs champagne when there's that stuff around?
I just got back to my horse after being away, having covid, and general life mayhem. We had a seriously needed grooming (upper body exercise), some wild free lunging to calm down the excess energy and get our connection all warmed up, then a good workout for both of us (lower body and cardio). I hope to be able to get our sessions going regularly for the winter. We can ride in the indoor arena when the weather or the outdoor surfaces are bad, and take good treks whenever possible. It'll do us both a lot of good.
My adventure jar? Definitely lots of horse riding. Working over poles, canter work in the arena (yikes on a young horse sometimes!), good long trail rides. Snowshoeing all over the place once we get enough of the stuff. Making sure I get outdoor time with friends - walking, snowshoeing, riding, whatever. I need more friend time for sure. I'll add some strength workout new things as an adventure, and I'm thinking about others... more to follow.
Dry January is a good adventure, and I'm glad others are joining in! I am aiming for dry year - I want to see if going from 85% AF days to 100% helps further reduce some small health niggles before they become larger.
My taller half and son and I are finally having our gift and food event tomorrow - a week late, but we're finally all here and well enough to sit in the same room together. It'll be simple, but nice.6 -

NW 150. To much celebration
I am coughing lots again. The cold air got to me last night. No more walking the dogs in freezing weather for awhile
I will commit to the 5,000 steps daily. Will have to figure out this Apple Watch. I have a FitBit that would work better. But can’t always see my messages at work. And can’t always have my phone with me at work.
Here is a photo of one of my quarantine tanks. The fish is just waking up. Kind of like Where’s Waldo

Happy New Year! Here's to a healthier 2024!
I'm on a downward trend! I made some small shifts recently and that has helped drop some bloat. I'm back to 64 ounces a day and being intentional about high protein meals and less carbs.
In 11 weeks I will be headed to Vancouver (cross country flight) to attend a big conference where I am co-presenting a breakout session. It's a BIG opportunity and I want to feel confident. So I'm using that trip as a marker to be down another 8 lbs.8 -
Started the year off with a nice 4 mile hike, it was at a park we'd never visited before, little did we know 2 miles of it was down then up a large hill with drop off trails. Those terrify me, I always feel wobbly on them.
But I made it...

Happy New Year everyone! It's funny how there is all the hype and then it feels like just another day. We stayed up last night and watched the ball drop with my in-laws. We had pizza and wings for dinner. Even though I definitely overate some, my weekly average is still at a deficit. Plus I went for a nice walk yesterday and today!
@Gidgitgoescrzy that's a great picture! Excellent job starting off the year/month with a nice walk!
@adrimango it's great to see when small changes show big results! Keep up the great work!
I am also excited to see more people joining the step challenge7 -
Got all our new folks on the step challenge marked down... please feel free to double check the January spreadsheet to make sure I have your step goal recorded accurately. Looking forward to having everyone!
@Gidgitgoescrzy Lovely picture, what a great way to start off the New Year.
We stayed up until almost midnight but I wasn't feeling great - probably all the junk on the road trip to be honest. We watched our Bills win when we got home (taped the game). Today is my first day back to trying to track... got my calories for brunch in. Just going to take it one day at a time.
I'm the last one to report for the last week of Dec - so here were my steps:
Dec 24 - 4105 steps
Dec 25 - 3143 steps
Dec 26 - watch didn't record - estimating 2000
Dec 27 - watch didn't record - estimating 4000
Dec 28 - 5222 steps
Dec 29 - 5277 steps
Dec 30 - 4761 steps
I switched to a new phone on the 25th and something went wrong with my syncing. I can guarantee the steps were nothing impressive as I was in the car all day on the 26th. Back to regularly scheduled programming for January!6 -
All right! 2024 let's go. My son is coming over for our delayed Christmas + New Year so there is going to be roast chicken and veggies. And cake! No alcohol, no craziness. And a good walk out in the snow first!
@adrimango great job on your 2 pounds lost! Way to start the new year I like your habit changes. they will do the job and I'll bet you'll see that 8 lbs in 11 weeks. Aim for a steady 1% per week and you'll still have some wiggle room. It'll be a stretch, but I'm rooting for you!
@Gidgitgoescrzy Nice one! You dared the scary paths - WTG!6 -
Hi everyone!
I’m Chelsey, I live in New England with my husband and our pup. I work in Human Resources, and this last quarter was a very stressful one with major projects, work trips, and the typical end-year processes. I did a much better job this year of managing my work calendar and drinking less at work events.
My husband and I went to a NYE party at a friend’s house, which is over an hour from us, so I was the DD and brought Athletic Brewing with me so that I could have a “drink” and still have a good time with my friends. We ended up leaving around 9:30, and I was out like a light before 11pm.
We both went to a spin class this morning which was dedicated to songs turning 24 years old this year and most of them had been on my iPod back in the day 😂
I always find it funny that I can remember the lyrics to songs I haven’t heard in years, but sometimes I can’t remember where I put my glasses or what I had for dinner the night before.
@ashleycarole86 - I want to try this step challenge again, and I will be much better about remembering. I’d like to aim for 5K steps.7 -
Happy New Year! I fell asleep but woke up 30 seconds before the ball dropped.
Started the new year with a 15 minute Pilates workout. After not doing it for so long, it was certainly harder than it used to be. But it was a step in the right direction, right?
Caught up with people I love for over two hours in the phone. A lot but needed. Now watching the Mummers Parade a Philadelphia tradition.
I’ve logged all my food but mindlessly ate a piece of sticky bun while on the phone. Drinking some water and then want to, at least, walk around the block outside.
I also took all my measurements and a photo as my starting point. It’s amazing looking back through MFP how many new years I was around this weight. Ugh. Not next year!
@Gidgitgoescrzy Goos for you taking that hike!! Great photo beautiful woman.7 -

Off to bed now, back to work tomorrow and I got an urgent call about an issue about 45 minutes ago that sort of rattled me so I know I'm not going into a calm day... hope it doesn't impact my sleep5 -

Hi all!
I'm Kay, 29, living in Boston, working in finance downtown. Struggled with emotional eating, restrict/binge cycles, and generally poor nutrition choices since college, dieted on and off for almost a decade now. Found this group in Aug 2020, took some breaks here and there. Started seeing a new doctor in July who specializes in weight management, and I started a medication that can help treat binge eating disorder, which has really helped me since then. I don't log daily on MFP anymore, only use the app for weigh logs and this group/community!
I'm big on home workouts, and definitely want strength to be a focus this year. For January though, I am doing my usual 30 day yoga journey with Yoga with Adriene over on youtube. She does a new one each year and I love yoga but this tends to be the most consistent that I am with it for the year. Used to also be huge on walking and starting to get back into jogging but I developed tendonitis in my foot in Nov 2021 which has limited me a LOT in movement since. Still working on healing that. I do track protein, and protein only, with a rather lofty daily goal of at least 90g per my new doc - sometimes I get there, sometimes I don't.
I'm a little behind for Jan 1 in terms of setting up my planner, thinking about goals and resolutions - but some big things I want to work on are - 1. finding consistent movement that feels good and keeps my strength up. 2. being more social/putting myself out there - I don't have a ton of close friends in my area (a lot of my best friends live in NY/PA/VA) and if I want to change that, I need to do things and meet people! 3. Resolving my two big health issues - the tendonitis in my foot, and this dumb eczema on my right hand that is truly trying to drive me to madness.
@Gidgitgoescrzy love the hike and the pic!!
Now, I have some leftover comments from our December chat that I didn't get to before now:
@MaddawgMadsen you mentioned box jumps- I actually got a plyo box for Christmas! I don't think I am up to actual jumps, I will mostly use it as a bench, or for step ups/step downs, for now but would love to get to the point of jumps. It is a weird mental block, actually just going for the jump!!
@eggfreak and @micki48 I jotted down a note that just says "Sylvia and Michelle are back, baby!" - so glad to have you with us again! And Sylvia is trying FitOn! My favorite trainers on there are Danielle (beware: Queen of Burpees), Luke (his Australian accent and turns-of-phrase just keep me smiling through the workout), Kenta, Sydney (barre workouts remind me of ballet class as a kid, which I love), and Caroline.
I also had a quiet new year's eve - I drove back to Boston from Long Island in the morning, got home just in time for the 1pm football games. By the end of the night (and year!), the Packers (my team) had won their game and I had won my fantasy football league!!! Very much looking forward to bragging at the office tomorrow. And also looking forward to absolutely passing out in bed right now. Night all!8 -
Started the year off by doing 2 workouts with FitOn. One upper and lower body followed by a 20 minute stepping fitness. Rest of my day was cleaning and sitting around. Husbands knee is still very painful. Then jumped on my treadmill for 25 minutes. Got in 6141 steps. Would have been a little higher but forgot to charge my watch
Love the enthusiasm here. Read all your posts. You all are doing great10 -
Weigh in Day: MONDAY

HAPPY NEW YEAR!. I had a wonderful vacation and I’m ready to get back to it.8 -
Morning team!
I’m starting my work week off with a cup of coffee sitting on my couch which is currently in my dining room. My living room between today and tomorrow is getting work done on the walls. My husband used a steamer and removed all of the layers of paint and wallpaper down to the original horse hair plaster, and now we’re having a plasterer come to do a skim coat of new plaster. This will allow us to have smooth “good as new” walls, which we will then paint.
I’m really excited to have one room of the house be done soon. I want to upgrade some of the furniture because they are going on 7 years and get a new rug, but that will come with time.
My workout space in the sunroom has also been overtaken by furniture for now, but that’s okay. I planned on today being a rest day after working out Saturday - Monday with two spin classes and a Vinyasa yoga class. I’ve really been enjoying getting back to the studios I used to frequent before home improvement projects and work consumed me and my time.
I’ve pre-logged my meals for the day with over 100g of protein to consume and plan on taking the pup on at least two 30-minute walks today as part of my rest day.
Happy Tuesday all!7 -
Good morning and Happy 1st Monday of the year!
I am Vikki, 52, married and live in Baltimore, MD. I have 3 children none of which live with me. My 2 oldest are in Baltimore also, my youngest is in the Air Force and is stationed in North Dakota.
I have struggled with my weight for quite a while, I have had periods where I was at goal weight for a long time, after I had my youngest, I did weight watchers and lost 35lbs and stayed there for 6 years or so, then life happened and I gained not only that back, but another 20 on top of it.
I feel like I am finally in a stable place again, I love my job, (I am a payroll manager/ treasury) for a lumber company. I love my relationship, I should be completely totally happy, but I am battling some depression, although ever since the holidays ended, I am feeling much more upbeat and motivated, so maybe the drug is working and that down feeling was just the guilt of taking the holidays off. We shall see.
I joined waistaways, sometime in 2019 I believe, and have been on and off since, I had lumbar and cervical fusions in Nov of 21, and although the pain is gone, but my flexibility is gone also, so that is one of my goals is to get that back, it's mostly my hamstrings that are the issue.
I am going on my twice cancelled (thanks Covid) trip to Ireland in May, and it's an active tour, so we will be hiking and horseback riding, and kayaking, etc, for 8 days, so I am really working on building up my stamina also.
I don't do gyms, I am a workout at home kind of person, I like videos, and apps. I have Fiton also, but I don't use it very often, I use an app called Down Dog, they have several apps, Yoga, workout (hiit), Barre and meditation, I like this one because you can customize your workouts with lots of variations. I am currently doing a January challenge there, to do yoga every day for the month. So far so good.
Yesterday, I did a ton of prep for the week, I have lunches made , it's a spinach salad with red peppers, carrots, celery, sunflower seed, hemp seed and flax seed and a nice oil and vinegar dressing. Dinners are also planned and what needs to be thawing is. Lol - I am horrible about taking things out to thaw for dinner.
Have a great day, I am excited to see all of our success in January ! Lets kick some butt team !
