Way to be intentional and pre planning your success! Thank you for sharing. Very inspiring. Excited for your improved spaces!3 -
Sitting down to a nice breakfast before my first workday of the year - two hard boiled eggs, half a grapefruit, and toast with jam.
Brad and I made a plan for success today while walking yesterday, so that when the stress of the day weighs on us we don't just throw in the towel tonight because we don't have a plan.
I'm an at home workout person too, but almost exclusively on the Peloton app. I have done Yoga with Adriene myself - she is so lovely.7 -
Hello WaistAways! I am Jolene. I live in SW Colorado with my husband and two chaotically lovable dogs. I am on here because I, like most people here, have struggled with my weight. After college was the first time I started gaining. I hit my limit in 2010, started working out, and got to my goal weight by the end of the year. I maintained my goal weight and regular activities (long-distance running and soccer) until an injury (hyper-extended hip) took me out in September, 2013. I ended up depressed and turned to food and alcohol to cope with the injury. I joined MFP and this group this past summer after looking at a picture from a friend's wedding. Since June/July I am down about 20 lbs with another 30 or so to go.
I am the team motivator, although, it was a struggle in December. A friend was shot and killed in the line of duty at the end of November and I struggle with seasonal depression in December. The combo made December really hard. But, it is now 2024, and I am looking forward to continuing the progress I started in 2023.
@ashleycarole86 - please add me back to the step challenge. My goal will continue to be 6,000 steps/day. I had 0 steps yesterday.
I am doing dry January and cutting out highly processed carbs like bread, pasta, and sweets. I did this in October and it was my best weight loss month. So, I know it is something I can do, and when I commit to it, I know it will have a positive impact. Amazingly, my husband is joining me for all of it, too.
I love reading all the introductions and am so happy to have so many new people joining us, as well as a couple of returning people.

@jugar - I like the question about the adventure list. I live in an area with incredible mountains and scenery. So, my outdoor adventure list would include lots of hikes, some 14'ers, camping, and new running trails that I can take my dogs. Possibly also fixing up my bike and making that a regular thing. For indoor adventure, it would be more games with my husband, learning to crochet more than hats and pot holders, and puzzles.
@gidgitgoescrzy - Beautiful picture! I love that you conquered your fears on that hike! You're awesome!6 -
Today I made plans to start going back to.the gym. I'm remembering and telling myself that I'm start back at the beginning and not where I left off. 💯7

I still can't believe how much weight I gained the last 2 weeks in December and how it will probably take me more than 2 weeks to get back off 😕 I was doing some thinking on a walk I took yesterday and it's amazing how much I ate when I let myself eat whatever I wanted (especially over christmas eve and christmas). I still need to control my portions even if I am letting myself eat cookies or a treat.
Anyway, the past week I have gotten back on track with the exception of a large dinner on NYE. I went for a stroll in the neighborhood, but still have quite a few steps to meet my goal today.
@ashleycarole86 I hope work wasn't too stressful today! Great job having a plan in place for this evening though.

Good evening Waistaways 😊
PW 234lbs
CW 233lbs
Good start to the year for me 😊
@ashleycarole86 can I please be added to step challenge? My Fitbit is finally fixed and charging 😀
Happy New Year everyone 🎉7 -
@jugar - I’ve been thinking about my adventure list as well. This time of year is always challenging because I don’t ski/snowboard, which would be easy to add to the outdoor list.
I’d have to say, for wintertime activities it would be walking while it’s light out, ice skating, tubing. For springtime and fall - longer walks, exploring new walking trails, hikes. Summer - beach walks, swimming, kayaking, sailing on the water, campfires and s’mores. Regardless of seasons - finding new coffee/tea shops, going to new museums or new exhibits.
Indoor activities - reading more, puzzles, boardgames, movie nights, baking with my husband.4 -
@ashleycarole86 where do I sign up for the step challenge and where do I locate the spreadsheet?1

Grateful we have a lot of month left *face palm*
I'll be participating in the step challenge and the habits challenge.
I'll see your face palm and raise you one great week to come with the habits and steps! Good to see you on the habit tracker. Let's make this work!3 -
What a great bunch of people you are! This is fun
I am super excited today - I had the best schooling session with Jasper, finally breaking the uncertainty and fear barrier and cantering in the indoor arena with success. We have done it a few times, with chaotic and unsatisfying results, but today it was beautiful. He is stronger, our new saddle really makes a huge difference for both of us, we kept our cool and did all the things right. Now we settle in to working at all the gaits, just making it all feel normal, building more muscle and flexibility. I'm setting up a schedule and a plan. Watch out, Jasper! (but don't worry - lots of trail rides too)
@Gidgitgoescrzy I have every hope that your Ireland trip will finally happen and be wonderful. Every time it has been cancelled was such a disappointment - now you are going to get ready, and finally be over there! It sounds amazing - so keep up your good work - I think you've got your mojo back for sure
@lauren_989 you have gotten back on track with a vengeance! 8 pounds slid off in one week - wow!! Your thoughts about how much you ate when you just let yourself go for it are interesting. Portion control is hard once you are eating foods that can push the "can't stop" button. But at least pre-planning and logging those foods, keeping only as much as you're planning to have in the house, and all those steps you have to take in advance help. I often find it easier just to cut them out altogether except for 1 day a week, or some other schedule that makes it possible not to worry about it. Let us know what you did this week to get such a quick turnaround - it can be "dangerous" to lose that much so quickly, and rebounds happen - but since you put it on quickly, that might not be a problem. In any case, you are back on track! Well done.
Love the adventure lists! The big chore list is less fun to put together, but hopefully we'll keep having adventures and not need it4 -
@jugar 3 weeks ago, I was at 206 pounds, so most of the weight I gained was water and fluid. I started tracking again and drinking a lot of water. As I said, I did indulge on pizza and wings for NYE, but my average calories for the week was 1800/day.
As @lindamartin27 asked, will the spreadsheet for January be posted soon?2 -
Love reading all your successes. @lauren_989 what phenomenal loss. Congratulations 🎉
I had a great day. I did 16 minutes of Pilates. Found a new park about a mile from my house. First time we’ve been there. It was beautiful. We did a little over a mile since it was our first time out in a long time. There are 127 protected acres. Even the bathrooms were wonderful. Then we had some errands to run. I’m just shy of 10,000 steps today but I’ll get there even if I have to walk around the room.
Had a quiche made for dinner. My daughter and family came over. Tomorrow my daughter turns 36! Hard to believe. Seems like yesterday. Food is all logged and closed. I was under. Yay! Drinking more water now. Back to school tomorrow. Not looking forward to getting up tomorrow. Love the kids but wish I could work part time.
I love the adventure idea. Today was an adventure but I definitely need to make my list. Here’s a photo from my walk.

The spreadsheet is always there, but I forgot to post the link on the home page - sorry!! Team members can view only - all the info is entered by the captains, but it is always interesting to go check it out. If you see any mistakes let us know!

The Monday-est Tuesday of the year is coming to a close, phew!
My eating after work was NOT on target, way too much snacking before dinner. So that didn't feel great. But then I got down to the mat for day 1 with Adriene this month and it felt... so good. I was so refreshed by the end. Here's hoping that keeps up.
@micki48 127 acres!! Jealous! What an awesome gem and an opportunity for fun movement.
I am not doing an adventure jar this year but actually a different kind of jar that I heard about on instagram (where else haha) - the Good Things Jar. At the end of each week, I will write down one good thing that happened that week and put it in the jar. At the end of the year, I'll have 52 good things to read through and look back on!
For adventures though, I would put snowboarding - it has been 2 years without it for me and I miss it so much, I just wrote "snowboard 3x (minimum)" in my planner for goals in the first 3 months of the year. I better get to buying some lift tickets so I actually remember to get out and go! For chores, I absolutely MUST fix the two area rugs I have in my living room. The floors in my apartment are nice and new but honestly too slippery and the rugs move a lot and can get bunched slightly around furniture legs which drives me 100% insane. I have a pad under one of them that also needs to be cut to size and it's been there for months. MUST be done this year!
off to hump day! night team5 -
@lindamartin27
If you want to be on the step team, just let me know you're joining and give me your daily step goal and I'll add you on
The spreadsheet is here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LDAu15W-Zo4fQkNpmRwGaVZW2-yRCg32A-yYsDhxdBM/edit?usp=sharing
I am out of space but will add you (if you're joining) and @strong_fit_ells soon enough... loving all the energy this month!
I feel great, my habit tracker is all green for the last two days. Brad and I continue to plan ahead for the next day and it's really helping. I'm just trying not to get overwhelmed. I see a green weigh-in in my future!!8 -
Ready for hump day? Here's who is due through Wednesday:
@coraliesara9089
@cleaneater80
@MaddawgMadsen
@Gidgitgoescrzy
Thanks!1 -
@micki48 - wow! Those photos are so lovely; I can imagine in the other seasons it’s an even more scenic and gorgeous walk.
@jugar - my chores one would be to reorganize a lot of the cabinets and finally unpack some rooms. We’ve been in the house for 11 months and still have quite a lot of things packed. I’m hoping that as we move from room to room and get everything done with the walls, I’ll finally be able to tackle this list.
A long work day in the books yesterday. Clocked 11 hours of work but managed to hit both my stand and move goals on my Apple Watch.
Today is going to be another busy work day, but I will be logging off by 4:30 to get ready for my group fitness class at one of the studios I go to. It’s a circuit style strength class, and there is usually always one station dedicated to cardio. I’m glad I blocked this time already on my calendar so that people can’t put meetings over it.
We have the plasterer coming (he didn’t actually come yesterday because traffic was at a standstill due to an accident), an electrician to come to take a look at our doorbell which isn’t working, and a solar panel company coming to begin their work for our solar we are installing. My husband is taking the day off to be around for all of the contractors because I’ll be working. It’ll be a very busy day at the house!7 -

So apparently when I went on my hike on Monday, I wore the WRONG boots, well I wore boots I hadn't worn in a while, and they were on the heavier side, and apparently if you aren't used to your heavy boots you shouldn't walk 4 miles, up then down hills, it's causes shin splints (atleast thats what I got from looking it up). Didn't hurt at all the day or evening of the hike, and wasn't too bad yesterday, but today is TERRIBLE... I did get on the treadmill last night and it didn't seem to bother it anymore, and actually felt a little better, till this morning, so I don't know if I should rest it completely, or if light walks are okay. I just started the step challenge, and I refuse to not get my 5k steps, lol...
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day !

Good afternoon Waistaways 😀
I'm with you for I think a couple of years (on and off 🤷) but I never used Habit Tracker, so I'm pleased to say that today I've set it all up.
I've gone down to real basics to help me get started with logging again.
My habit trackers are
* to drink 3l of water
* fill in the diary every day
* stay under 1400 calories
* step 15,000 steps every day
* post on our message board every day, instead of once a week with only my weigh in.
If I can stick to those basic habits for January, it will be easier to set more challenging habits for February 😀
Fingerss crossed this will give me good start on my fitness journey 🥰
