Busy week! I've not been as active, not sleeping super well and more hungry as a result. I still appreciate this opportunity to check in.5 -

October week 4
Weigh in day: Friday, October 25
PW: 257.3 lbs
CW: 254.9 lbs (↓2.4 lbs; 0.93%)
This month's LTD: (↓2.4 lbs; 0.93%)
I started out well enough this month, losing 2.8 pounds after two weeks. But then I gained that all back back during week 3. Now I'm back down 2.4 pounds in week 4.
Hopefully week 5 will not be like week 3!

I just came across an email I sent to myself years ago and thought I'd share it.
There's a website, https://www.futureme.org, that let's you type an email to yourself and specify the date you want it delivered. The website suggests this is good for:
❤️ Reliving memories in vivid detail
📈 Acknowledging growth & achievements
✅ Setting goals for the future
😌 Decluttering your mind to find some headspace
(You can of course do this without the website, by scheduling a delivery date in your email app.)
Anyway, here is the email I composed ~7 months into my weight loss journey to lose 100 pounds in one year, going from 330 to 230. It was quite a surprise when I later received it, having totally forgotten about it:Dear FutureMe,
What a struggle this has been. I am currently heavily tempted to enjoy some sweets. I hope you have reached our goal. If so, please have a dessert for me (but only if it's within our calorie limit).
If you haven't reached 230 pounds yet, don't give up. Keep going. I haven't sacrificed these past 7 months just to give up at the end.
Are you going to start maintaining at 230? Or is it possible to keep going? I guess that all depends on what the body scan shows.
Good luck!

Reading this again has inspired me to strive more determinedly toward what PastMe was hoping to achieve.

Thanks @DaffyGirl88 I’m enjoying the classes. One of the instructors recently celebrated her 84th birthday! I find myself feeling like I want to be her when I grow up as well as wondering what took me so long to get moving😉

Have a great Saturday all,the sun is out here so alot to smile about 😄6 -
@izzyred9400 Oh, that's cool! Did you make a copy of the sheet? If you saved it, you should be able to type in it. I never do anything on my phone because I can't stand the small screen! So I am not sure what the problem would be if you made a copy for yourself.1

I just completed my first 100 day challenge and lost about 17 pounds. I loved logging my weight every day. It really gave me a lot of information about my body, what works, what doesn't, if the trend is going up too many days in a row, etc.
I'm so glad that some of you from here will be doing the next 100 day challenge that starts tomorrow! It is really helping me stay motivated. I'll see y'all there every day:)7 -

@jessicakrall8 Hello Jessica! First of all, I am glad you will be returning to the weigh in group. I am pretty sure we went on support around the same time, and now we are both restarting at the same time as well! It is hard to decide what to do. Keep weighing in and only having gains, or giving yourself a break. In my experience, the support break never ends well. I think the next time I struggle, I will just keep checking in even though it feels bad.
Don't worry about the sheet, I will keep it updated. Is it back pain or something else going on? Are you scared because of missing work? If you have a half decent boss, he will understand. Rest up, take some deep breaths, it will be alright.
Hey @Pupowl...no it's my left knee where the swelling occurs...the heaviness of the area above the knee weighs down on the knee and causes incredible pain. I'm getting better, but taking some time to work on my range of motion in bending that knee. Thanks for covering...can't sit at my desk for long...working from home this week and will need to lie down on breaks/lunch to elevate it.

It’s great to see so many Shape Sifters entering the 100 day challenge and supporting one another. That’s a good amount of time to practice and sustain positive habits. Congratulations on your success @iradi8 and best wishes to all!
TL/DR version - Lot’s of recent family health complications are tiring but also remind me that I’m fortunate to care for loved ones, and celebrate each day with gratitude!
[Feel free to skip the next 5 paragraphs 🙃]
I’m in Boston checking in with my mother (80), great aunt (88), and father-in-law (92). I travel from northern Virginia about once a month to help for about a week or so, depending on the circumstances. There’s always so much to do on these visits, and they have increasing needs, so I’m planning a longer stay from late November 2024 through late January 2025.
During my September visit, I found my aunt on the floor, unable to get up, so I called an ambulance. She recovered after about a month, and got cleared by the physical therapist, but she’s in the hospital again. My brother and I were checking in regularly while my sister was on vacation, but our aunt wasn’t feeling well. She got progressively worse and I had to call an ambulance again because she was so weak. Her bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor so I’m not sure if she will be able to return home this time. We’ll learn more tomorrow.
We tried to help my father-in-law ‘age in place’ at home but his dementia became too severe. He lives in a senior care facility for people who need extra monitoring due to memory loss now. He is always happy to see me even though he doesn’t know who I am anymore. My mother has some difficulty with recall after some small TIAs (brief blockage of blood flow to the brain), and a stroke, but she recovered well and her memory problems are not too serious yet. She has a lot of trouble with mobility and balance though — She can’t move much because she doesn’t move so it’s a tough cycle. It will be good to spend some extended time with her and see if we can build her endurance a little at a time.
Yesterday, I hired a retired nurse to stay with my mother and aunt twice a week for about four hours each of the two days. I hope it will give my sister some relief from all the care she’s providing. We really need to improve our health and aging infrastructure here in the U.S. but I’m not counting on it during my lifetime. So, I’m working in practical ways to prepare for any care I might need — while also seizing each day!
It really is a privilege to care for family members but there doesn’t seem to be enough time in a day to keep up with everything. Today, I was able to spend a little time with my son while we did some errands together, and I stopped to smell some roses while walking with my mother to her hair appointment. I was surprised the flowers didn’t have much scent but the garden was pretty. It was also a victory to get my mother to walk! I hope everyone can find moments of wonder during busy or stressful days.
Carpe Diem, Shape Shifters!8 -
Hello Shape Shifters. I finally kicked myself out of the house yesterday morning to go for a walk. I was really stupid for not going for so long (I did workouts at home). Fall is awesome for walks, I love all the leaves, so many mushrooms everywhere, temperature is good. So yeah, I had a great time and I will try to make the walks daily again unless it really is nasty outside. I get really bored doing the workouts at home and sweating in the living room just isn't very fun.
Later in the day I mowed the front garden. Even though it has been dry and relatively warm for this time of year, my grass was still soaked so the mower got stuck a lot. It was a pain. It also decided to die on me again when I was almost done. Hopefully it will randomly work again the next time I need it. But that is far away thankfully; no mowing until spring, woohoo!
I stepped on the scale this morning for the start of the 100 day challenge. It wasn't pretty, but now I can move forward and get back into a horse riding weight range. I think I will share the daily tracker I made for that challenge in this group as well, so I will post the first one tomorrow morning.
Happy Sunday everyone7 -

My hip is starting to feel better, but I still don't think it's up for running. I'm guessing another week of walking. I'm scared to push too hard, too soon and have to start the healing over. But I'm finding walking on the treadmill isn't so bad if I find something to watch on my phone while at the gym. It has become rather relaxing, in a way that running doesn't quite achieve. I may try to incorporate it into my off days from running just for the mental break it provides.
I'm going to do some food prep today for the week. I'm planning on making a low(ish) calorie soup for my lunches for the week, boil some eggs, make some carrot and zucchini muffins (mainly for my kids but I'll definitely have a few as well), and cook some veggies for a side or snack throughout the week.
I also want to do some yoga and calisthenics today. Hopefully start doing it more frequently. I have a hard time sticking to these kinds of workouts for some reason, but I'm going to give it another try.
Beyond that, I just have some cleaning and chores to get done today while my kids are with my mom.
Anyway, I'm rambling a bit. I hope you all have a wonderful day!4 -

Gain of 2.0 lbs... a little upsetting since I stayed within my calories and got more walks in... However my doctor is adjusting my blood pressure meds, eliminated the water pill and cut another in half. So thinking this might be my body adjusting. Let's see what next week brings!4 -
