Still in F- territory. I think the only veggie I’m getting in today is snap beans and field peas to go with ham biscuits for dinner.
I even took kettuce and tomato off the meal plan because it just didn’t sounds appetizing in a pork bbq wrap.
Fruits are up, though, as I try to give up artificial sweeteners. Today will be day 8. Putting fruits in various things in lieu of processed sugars.
Tonight’s an experiment: ninja Creami ice cream with a serving of Greek yogurt, half a banana, some espresso balsamic, and some powdered cocoa. The mix didn’t taste especially good but the wierd thing with ice cream is, unlike cookie doughs (speaking as an expert 😂) ice cream mix can be meh but the ice cream turns out great. Am crossing fingers.
I usually use sugar free pudding mix as my thickener, but that’s out now, and regular
Pudding mix is way high calorie. Might as well have commercial ice cream at that point.
Last night was banana and mango, with whipped cream. It was delish. I think I’m going to attempt a banana pudding ice cream soon. Seems like all I need is some vanilla bean paste. And maybe half or quarter graham cracker to mix in.1 -
omg ... your things sounds SO delicious, Springer. Good for you on Day 8 of ditching artificial sweeteners ✨.
Cold still up here as well, single digits lows, that should continue until Saturday, when it warms all the way up to the teens, F (for lows). 🥶. Great week for soups! 🍲
Wednesday checkin! Day 3 Prolon 5-day FMD today. I peed out 2.2 lbs yesterday, and another 1 lb the day before 😂. One thing I love about Prolon is, usually on Day 3 my arthritic/injured knee is so much looser! Not as painful, and I can move so much easier. I asked my Sports Med doc if fasting had a beneficial effect on arthritis. He said he hadn't heard anything to that effect, but there was evidence that a plant-based diet had beneficial effects on arthritis. I asked him if it was the extra fiber, or the lack of meat, he said they didn't know, but it was an interesting question. Another woman that did Rounds 1-4 (last May-Aug) at the same time as me, in the FaceBook FASTination Group, did say she had experienced the same phenomenon - she said her Baker's Cyst completely disappeared during her fasts 😍.

Thurs (late!) Checkin~! Prolon Day 4, coming down the home stretch, baby! Still cold up here, but it's moderating. Supposed to warm way up to lows in the teens tomorrow ;-).
I 'fake stepped' in place today for an hour (logged 2.51 miles on my Fitbit), while watching a couple YouTubes with Dr. Longo (the man who created the FMDs). They were interesting:In the middle of this one right now, it's a webinar Dr. Longo did in November, at the Create Cures Foundation that he started (which is separate from the L-Nutra Company he also founded that sells the FMDs):
This video/podcast is the one where I decided to stop sitting and watching, and got up to 'fake walk' while I watched . This vid is from last month; it's with the Zoe Science and Nutrition Podcast. I found out, while watching this, that Dr. Longo was named one of Time's 50 Most Influential Health people (I forget exactly, now, what the category name was). Pretty cool tho 🤓:
And this last one is the one that I originally had started watching. Audrey, who is interviewing Dr. Longo, is our Health Coach this week, for the Coach-led Zoom Support Sessions. She mentioned that she had interviewed Dr. Longo a few years ago, I was interested, so I asked if she could share the link. I noticed when I was only a just a bit into Audrey's interview tho, that the Webinar one (with Create Cures Foundation, linked above) was much more recent, so I stopped watching Audrey's (I'll get back to it ), and started watching the newer Create Cures Foundation Webinar, instead (which was super interesting, I loved hearing about the more recent studies and science):

I slept only 3 hrs again last night. 🙃 Prolon is great, I love the reset, but man, I don't sleep during fasting week!
Usually by D8 it evens out (fast is over on D5 (today!), D6 is Transition Day Diet, and D7 is back to normal. I usually still do Transition-ish at least for breakfast (love the avocado toast, olive-oil fried diced tomato & egg, and greens with chopped dates, walnuts, & coconut vinegar!) on D7, but by dinner it's back to normal.
This is this week - today is Day 5 (woop!), (no data for Mon, but it was just under 4 hrs in bed, not sure how much asleep/awake, tho. Thank goodness I got a full sleep on Sunday! 😴🤐

Oh! also .... Friday Checkin! Day 5 Baybee! Transition Day/Day 6 tomorrow - can't wait for the avo toast & greens! I'm kinda/sorta/tentatively planning on doing a full year of Prolon cycles. Not sure if I can, but Imma try! The first week of Jan, the Zoom Coaching Sessions had Dr. Robert Lufkin on as a Special Guest. His website has a link to ordering a subscription of routine blood tests, so I bought a sub for the year.
I was playing with the idea of trying the trendy Function Health biological age bloodtest (associated with Dr. Hyman, I think it is), but ... I went with the much fewer 17 bio markers test, on a more frequent basis instead. I want to track my progress, see if doing the FMDs monthly are beneficial. I absolutely LOVE the almost 30 pt drop in LDL cholesterol that I experienced after my initial four rounds of Prolon.

I too have been stuck in the work trenches 😁
It never stops snowing…. Some areas now have gotten 6’
Yes that’s feet.
Anyway, I have a new powder that I’m adding to my morning shake.
It’s a protein/ Greens powder.
Tastes great.
Still adding the cacao nibs of course ⛄️
Spring is just around the corner, and I’m super ready to start my green raised bed garden again.
Have a great week everyone

@dannytrees1 wow! 6ft of snow I can’t imagine!
Love the pulverized greens in the shake. They say Spring and summer bodies are made in the winter!!

Annoyed. I bought a premade salad. Just opened it for lunch.
It has about two cups of lettuce and NOTHING ELSE except flavored tortilla strips, sesame sprinkles, and dressing.
🤬
Won’t be buying this again. Should have looked at it closer.2 -
Ohhhhh .... bummer, Springer!
Sunday checkin! Avo toast again@ (yummmmmm) Leaving this afternoon for our mini spa getaway . Looking forward to a delicious dinner at the Sea Glass Restaurant - will make sure to order veggies, ofc !!
Back on Tuesday afternoon, tho I'm sure I"ll probably check in.
Six feet of snow, Danny!! wowwwwwww1 -
Six feet. Mind blowing.1

Just back from the spa getaway with hubby (we planned several mini-Maine-getaways for this yr, as our 35th wedding anniversary celebration), and I'm buzzing with good vibes and positive energy. The lady at the deli counter, where I was picking up sliced sharp cheddar and sliced aged provolone last night even noticed it! lol she said I love your energy, come and visit me again! heh
I had some DELICIOUS veggie dishes, while we were there, including a Roasted Carrots starter that I would have been fine with as my full meal on our first night. It was remarkable! I wish I could remember exactly what was in it, the menu card (I took a pic) just mentioned the roasted carrots, pistachios, and mascarpone. The main that night was fish (beer batter fried fresh haddock) and chips (old bay seasoned crisped up fries). The Fish was like, REALLY fresh, but unflavored. The flavor was all in the batter, and it was dinner on my Day 6/Transition Day after my 5-day fast, so ... yea, too heavy. I ate about a third of one of the fish filets and maybe a quarter of the fries (which were also REALLY good ... you really can't go wrong with Old Bay Seasoning, can you? ) Hubby had The Good Table's Fish Chowder, Mussels, and an Austin Street Brewery Walcott Smoked Brown Ale. He finished all of his things . I tried the Chowder and the Ale, yup, they were good!.
And a Mushroom dish that sounded amazing on the menu, but I hesitated b/c of the mushrooms. I don't love mushrooms ;-). I was vacillating between the Mushrooms entrée (Asian inspired: Roasted Mushrooms, Jeow Som Sauce, Crispy Sticky Rice, Bok Choy, Spicy Ginger Mayo) and the Cauliflower entrée (Middle Eastern inspired: Vadouvan Spiced Cauliflower, Borani Banjan, Panisse, Avocado Yogurt), but in the end went with the Mushrooms b/c the Cauliflower dish included Panisse, which my google said was kinda like a deep fried polenta - the fried fish and chips from the night before weren't a fantastic memory (not the taste, but the feel in my belly), so ... even tho I thought I'd prefer cauliflower to mushrooms, man I'm glad I went with the mushrooms! I did ask the server about the two dishes, she said they were each very different, but the Mushroom was incredible. She was right!! I was very glad I went with the mushrooms. Did better on this dish, as far as finishing, I ate 2/3 of it, instead of less than 1/4 heh. Hubby had a Lobster Roll w/ Crispy Fries, a Bissell Brothers Substance, and I had a dessert wine after (Royal Tokaji)
We did have heavy breakfasts on the 2nd and 3rd days, tho, so it wasn't all virtuous ;-) (I won't post those pix ). A lovely charcuterie board lunch, with fresh fruits, and homemade brownies made Monday delightful. Monday was the Mushroom dish day . And I did drink lots of water the whole weekend; the workouts, the walks, and the tub soaks left me feeling parched and thirsty a lot of the time.
We also had a long winter beach walk that morning, where we saw clams digging into the sand (!), experienced a rare earthquake in Maine (!) during breakfast (I thought it was a convoy of trucks, lol). We did also go on a nighttime winter beach walk, but those pix are on hubby's phone .
Look close! Clams digging in
Bubbles! Clam just went in
Hubby's fitbit walk stats
We had a long soak in the air jet oversized tub, then a movie, during the afternoon, while the wind picked up significantly outside; it howled and blew all afternoon, evening, and night (felt like we were in a cozy mystery story, in an old Inn, where a murder took place! heh),
Plus a workout in the gym after dinner. (Actually, there were after dinner workout in the gym on both nights; they had a Pelaton bike which was very fun, really liked the classes.).
On our last morning, we again had breakfast at the on-site Sea Glass Restaurant, skipped a third workout in the fitness room ;-), had a second tub soak and relax in the air jet tub and loft bedroom, then had a couples Swedish Massage and a late check-out before heading home. Loved the spa getaway - recommend! We'd never done a spa weekend before. We stayed active the whole time, had great food, amazing relaxing tub soaks, and a massage. What's not to love!

Morning Brussel sprouts! 🌱

Roasted, or fried? I love roasted Brussel sprouts, when they crisp up and brown and stuff. But that looks like it might be pan-fried? and with the same results!0

I booked us for a spa visit in some town in Germany. Dragged the husband kicking and screaming.
Now he’s all in and our daughter is fixing to move to a spa town. He can’t stop talking about going to the “thermé”.
But we don’t eat at them. We usually hit a local weekly market (there’s always one somewhere nearby) and get a chonk of great cheese and a loaf of bread.
I really really wish we had the market culture that Europe has. Our town is unusual and does have a weekly market, but I’m sorry, $12 for a pint of ice cream and $6 for a laugenecker (cross between a pretzel and a croissant) that I can buy in Europe 2/1€? $10 for an ounce of chèvre? $20 bucks for a five pound bag of apples in a paper bag that I know for a fact they wholesale to local groceries that sell them for a quarter of that?
Noooooo thanks.
I do like radish season thought. One vendor has four or five varieties, including sunset radishes, which are gorgeous when you cut them. I learned last spring that eating a pound of radishes at once is a one way ticket to a painful stomachache. 😱.1 -
PS next time we visit, I’m asking the manager at the local grocery to have the bakery make up a couple dozen extra laugenecker the morning we leave and am bringing them home to freeze. Apparently they’re a very regional thing. They reheat beautifully, and are worth a couple hundred extra calories. I can cut elsewhere.1
-
ohh, that Market culture thing sounds da bomb !
Yes, I usually don't do massages, b/c my skin is so prone to allergic reactions/rashes that I shy away from any 'new' products on my skin. When we were in Jamaica, I passed on the massage; and when we were in Turkey, I passed on the hamam (hubby said it was amazing!). But this one is local, I figured ... hey, if something happens I can take care of it 😆. Loved it, and no reactions so far (can take up to 3 days, going by past experience, tho).
She used CBD oil, too, which really seems to have had a positive impact on my arthritic knees and my sore left shoulder. Well, maybe the bike sessions helped my knee ... but not my shoulder! That's been paining me for a couple mos now (think I kept sleeping on it funny, I'm a side sleeper). Either the massage, or the CBD oil, or both, seems to have helped that .
Cold here again today - 10F colder today (low of 15F), than yesterday. Heading toward a low of 1F on Saturday, before it bounces up to a high of 45F on Monday (with snow on the overnight! before it gets that high when the sun comes up).0 -

@mkksemail - actually baked for dinner and then I used them as leftovers in morning with a wee bit of olive oil!
@springlering62 - I love shopping at markets when I travel! Especially internationally! Enjoy.2 -
Just wanted to say thanks January greens team!!
Hope you are feeling healthy and well! 🌱
