NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY
Around the country, National Girls and Women in Sports Day is recognized by schools, organizations, and teams during the first week of February.
    #GirlsAndWomenInSportsDay
Athletics play an important role in girls' lives. Besides helping to establish a routine for a healthy, active lifestyle, sports build confidence, leadership skills, and the ability to work with a team.
But there is so much more to participating in sports. Women who participated in sports in school are more likely to graduate from college. According to an EY study, women increase their odds of landing leadership positions when they have a background in athletics.
Girls develop lifelong valuable relationships during their sports careers, too. It's not just serious business.
It also doesn't matter the sport. Whether girls choose to be a part of the volleyball team or prefer to aim for par or better in golf, the health, leadership, and academic benefits develop with each one.

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. I want to apologize for my absences lately. I am not usually out this much. I have been in the past a very dedicated person to this group. Unfortunately moving has been an adventure and we are still finishing things up. I promise now that moving day is here I will be more attentive and able to respond to everyone like I normally do.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Our dog is definitely noticing and she is panicking a bit. Panting a lot. Our cats are extra clingy so I assume they are having issues as well. I get the keys to the new home today. I cannot wait.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday.

OPTIMIST DAY | First Thursday in February
Confident people look to the future with hope, and on Optimist Day we celebrate the volunteers who share their enthusiasm, skills, and talent to make that tomorrow a vibrant and peaceful one. On the first Thursday in February, recognize an optimist whose endeavors have made a difference in your community.
    #OptimistDay
Each year, Optimist organizations around the world volunteer their time and skills working with the youth in their communities. They provide leadership, scholarship, wellness and safety, arts and sports programs.
Optimist Day recognizes the volunteers and the youth who support their communities in many different ways. Every day, our growing communities rely on the ingenuity and energy of the next generation to be an integral part of our neighborhoods, schools, and towns. These young volunteers and the mentors who guide them connect them to the greater world around us. Their stewardship creates a hopeful future for us all.
    HOW TO OBSERVE OPTIMIST DAY
Recognize the volunteers in your community. Dedicate the day to their accomplishments and let them know how much you appreciate them. Let them know your community admires their hard work and dedication. Encourage other youth to become involved in community organizations, too. Help them see the benefits of improving the world where they live and connecting with the people who live there. Share the projects and resources of your communities' volunteer organizations, the volunteers, and youth, too. Use #OptimistDay on social media.
    OPTIMIST DAY HISTORY
The original idea for Optimist Day developed in 1909 when the Optimist Club of America promoted the day to be observed on April 1st as a way to encourage kind acts and further optimism. The idea was to also replace the practical joking associated with April Fool's Day. For the next several decades, clubs across the country hosted Optimist Day observances in their communities on various dates throughout the year.
In 2017, Optimist International declared Optimist Day to be observed on the first Thursday in February with a focus on recognizing the achievements of the volunteers and the youth in the community. Each year, the programs they support improve their communities and provide opportunities for youth of all ages. They also coordinate with other volunteer organizations making the future brighter for all involved.
    Optimist FAQ
    Q. Are optimists positive or negative?
    A. Optimists have a positive outlook and strive to bring a positive outlook into the lives of others.
    Q. Q. When was Optimist International founded?
    A. The international volunteer organization was founded in 1919. However, many Optimist Clubs were established across the United States. In 1911, Optimist Club of America established its first official club in Boston

@Tabatha_Cain Yayyy! Congrats on finally closing and ready to move in! Don't overdo the work involved in the moving now, so you don't hurt yourself. I bet you're just thrilled! I would be too (except, I've moved so many times in my life that next time, we'll be hiring movers and/or buying a place already furnished!)! Enjoy!

@Tabatha_Cain oh hon!! We ALL totally get it!! Moving is so stressful!! Izzy the first few times I moved (which included from Maine to Colorado!) she freaked out!! Guess she was worried I'd leave her behind!! NOT On her kitty life!! She's MINE and awwwww she even rode on the plane WITH ME!! Indeed I more than willing to pay for her own seat!! LOLOL!! In the end I didn't have to do that. BUT she was with me the entire time. They get scared when we take them out of their routines. Are you in the new house now? Once you are of course its the little tie up things which need to be done. ONE STEP at a time. Its so much fun to unpack and decide what is going where.
@Ronnie_happy2ranch my last move I let the movers do most of it. So much easier. I knew where I wanted the furniture so of course I had them put it all in those spots. I hope I never move out of here until I need more care!! Do you think you'll move again? @Kuritze how is your move going? @Sparkuvu, LOL will you be on the moving train? I AM NOT!! I just passed my 7th year of being here. Every day I am still amazed. Today I couldn't see the harbor which is right here. Tonight though its gorgeous.

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Friday and it is move in day. We got the Key last night but we only got 1 key and they still had the other so they could finish moving out because they were behind schedule. I am hoping they got everything out. Otherwise we are screwed because we cannot move things in. They were supposed to leave the second key inside the house when they locked the doors.

    @Sparkuvu - Thank you.
@Ronnie_happy2ranch - I looked into hiring movers and they wanted $2,000 just to load a truck and drive it to the new location and unload the truck. That is a lot and even though I have the money I am trying to save money.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - We are getting into the new house today. Moving in. We have almost everything down to the main room. So it will take a bit for the kitties and the dog to get used to the new home.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

    NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
National Wear Red Day, on the first Friday in February, is an annual campaign to raise awareness about heart disease in women.
    #WearRedDay
The national campaign urges women to learn their risk for heart disease and to take steps to lower their risk. What increases a woman's chances of heart disease?
Smoking Sedentary lifestyle Family history Diabetes Stress Inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's Complications during pregnancy Menopause
We can prevent or reverse many of these risks by taking action. Speaking with our physician also helps to further lower our risk of heart attack and stroke by making and following a plan.
Quit smoking. Ask for help if you need it. Your physician has many tools at her side to make quitting a success.
Change your lifestyle. Become more active and improve your eating habits. This will help with many risk factors including stress, family history, and other health conditions.
    Get routine physical exams.
Heart disease and stroke kill one in three women. These diseases are 80 percent preventable according to Go Red for Women's official website.

@Tabatha_Cain - WooHoo! Moving day! Your pets will be right at home with you in no time. The stress behind you now. Have fun!

@Dianedoessmiles1 - beautiful picture! We got a call from our DS in AZ. We are headed down for a visit and to help him out. Wouldn't you know, more snow than all winter this morning! We'll pull out this afternoon, head for the coast and take a calm and slow trip. 86° today in Gilbert where we are headed. Grandkids, warm walks and family fun ahead.
    WooHOO!!!
We've rented a car for trip down. We gave our converted work van/camper to our GK's a couple of years back when they moved. They've not used it, so we get it back. Driving home like the hippies we are. Primitive, but an awfully lot of fun and function for it back in Oregon. We can go camping and pull our boat to nearby lakes. Plus room for more GKs when we camp at the river! They all love the "mhuck" for vacations. Our DS, masterminded our winter adventure. What a gem.🤍

@Tabatha_Cain Ouch on that cost for hiring movers; I did it once or twice but it was only like $250 (back in my apartment days). You will be so happy when you're all done!

@Dianedoessmiles1 I do think I will move again; we're hoping to buy a winter place (somewhere warm) in the next year or five. We're going to look at Lake Havasu in April to see if we even want to go there and a lot of the places we've seen online are already furnished). I really don't want to have all these stairs when I retire (we have 4 levels in our home and the laundry room is in the bottom level).

@gouldsgranite That will be fun to have the van/camper! So much easier than hauling an RV/camper with a truck and more roomy than car camping. We ran into a couple last year in Yellowstone who came from Canada in an old 1960's (or 70s) VW camper/van (photo attached); the photo doesn't do it justice, but it was just the coolest thing I had seen in long time and I really want to get one of the newer ones now, but I don't want a car payment! knjquh736u4o.jpg

@Tabatha_Cain HEY CONGRATS on your new house!!! Hopefully the utilities are turned on and working. So strange how at times that goes weird!! Of course, cable/internet can be a pain, but once established its done. How did the fur babies do?
@Gouldsgranite that just sounds like a fun and terrific adventure!! Hey hippies never stop being such. Oh that'll be so much fun and later again when you can all camp with it!! WOOHOO ROAD TRIP!
@Ronnie_happy2ranch, love the downsizing as we age (a little LOL). Four levels is great when we are young and with kiddos. But, thinking of creaking bones (we hope not! Mine do, but at 8000 years old mine should!) and stairs do not mix well. I TOTALLY LOVE the VW van/camper!! That's so AWESOME!!! Here's the one my Mom had. With us 8 kids, it was needed. LOL and we all loved that thing!

@Kurtize, so excited for you also!! In just 2 weeks and you'll be on the road also!!

    NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY
Observed annually on February 8th, National Kite Flying Day encourages exploring kite flying and making. Enthusiasts across the country mark the day by launching their kites or making plans to attend festivals.
    #NationalKiteFlyingDay
Kites date back to China in 470 B.C. China is full of lore and histories of the origins of the kite. Many are related to the way wind affects the leaves on the trees, the shelters they lived in, blowing away the sails on their ships, and the hats they wore upon their heads. The stories also tell of kites invented to spy on their enemies or to send messages.
Evidence also shows the people of the South Sea Islands were using kites for fishing around the same time as the people of China.
Early kites were constructed from bamboo or sturdy reeds for framing. Leaves, silk, or paper made ideal sails. Vines or braided fibers completed the line or tether. While people initially used kites as tools, they also used them for ceremonial reasons as well. Whether they sent messages into the heavens or to lift offerings up to the gods, kites had a symbolic place in the culture.
Today kites are popular both as hobbies and for outdoor fun. They range from a simple diamond kite to more complicated box kites and giant sled kites. Stunt kites, also known as sport kites, are designed so the operator can maneuver the kite into dips, twists, and dives with dramatic effect.
Tips for Getting Your Kite Up in the Air and Keeping it There
Be sure the kite is assembled correctly.
Check the wind. Some kites require more wind and others less. Picking the right day for your kite is key. A light breeze (5-20 mph) is generally optimal.
Be safe. Don't fly a kite near power lines, trees, or other sky-high obstacles. Wide-open spaces are best.
Be safer. Don't fly in the rain.
When launching the kite, be sure to have your back to the wind. If the wind is light, have a friend hold the kite downwind and hold your line taught, reeling in slowly until the kite launches.
Don't let the line out too quickly. Let the line out at the same pace the kite is gaining altitude.

    Kite FAQ
    Q. What is the world's largest kite?

    Q. Is kite flying a sport?
    A. Flying kites is quite competitive. Kite design and the altitude a kite achieves are both measures for competition. Additionally, flying kites can be a physically demanding event.
    Q. What are the largest kite festivals?

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Saturday and well it is going to be a rough week. We got 1 load moved and it contained almost all the big heavy appliances and furniture. Only our refrigerator was left behind yesterday and we will get that today. The animals were all gotten, but not without some massive angry cats. Two have come out of their bedroom, one is still hiding in there, and the two that are out one is hiding in the main house, and one is sometimes walking around and getting petted. Which is good. She is adapting faster. The dog cried all night in her crate despite being taken out 3 times over night. She refused to potty outside so she already had an accident inside. I cannot feel mad at her for it. I just cleaned it up. She is stressed and it is all new. Plus outside is like a sheet of ice. At the middle of the week we had snow and then freezing rain so it is snow with ice over top of it and it is really hard to get around in the backyard. Plus normally we just let her outside and she runs around herself. Well we cannot do that because our backyard is not fenced in yet. I signed the contract yesterday but they are saying 7 weeks. Like I cannot believe they originally told me 2 weeks and now they are saying 7. It does not make sense. So right now my dog is sleeping on the living room floor because she did not sleep last night.

@gouldsgranite - Thank you. The pets are here. Not sure they are quite adapting yet. Our dog refuses to potty outside. Also none of them are eating yet.
@Ronnie_happy2ranch - We are almost done. We have one more load to get today. So today we should be completely out of the old house.
@Kurtize - I hope you are better prepared. I honestly felt I was not prepared at all. I was packed mostly but then realized I forgot things. I thought it was a lot but I missed a lot as well.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - We have electric and heat. We have well water and a septic tank so we don't have a bill for those. We have internet installed. We don't watch cable so we did not order it. I also set up trash service. The dog whined in her crate all night even though I took her out 3 times last night. The cats freaked out, but all 3 are at the new house. Still hiding for the most part.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday.

@Tabatha_Cain Good that you are into your place. Once you start to unpack more and more and they smell the familiar scents that'll help them. Aww Chloe is still a wee puppy (pun? MAYBE!) once she adjusts to not being able to run freely in the yard (until you can all take care of that) she'll be fine. The kitties also. Now that you are totally out of the house, as you relax, they will also.
@Kurtize, that picture looks so relaxing!! Tabatha and I will join and perhaps also @Patti241 and @Macrat12

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Sunday and it is church online today. We have the truck to still unload today. We are finally out of the old house. My son is supposed to go in and clean the house for me today. I hope he is able to do that. I just cannot unload everything today and then also go back and clean. Today I have to set up my office because I have to work tomorrow. The dog is still not wanting to potty outside. She hates the tie out.

@Kurtize - I would say you definitely get better at moving. I will definitely Join you for some drinks.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - Yes I am so glad to be out of the other house. Still adjusting to being here though. Chloe definitely does not like the Tie out. I feel like we failed her as we should have trained her just in case.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday

    NATIONAL HOME WARRANTY DAY
National Home Warranty Day on February 10th reminds us to protect the vital appliances and components of our homes.
    #HomeWarrantyDay
Our homes are filled with complex appliances, technology, and other components that over time can and do wear out. At any given time, one or more of our appliances can break down. When the washing machine breaks down, not only is it inconvenient, but it can be expensive. Often, another item is not far behind. Will it be the hot water heater next? Or, just in time for summer, will the central air go kaput? Each repair adds up.
A home warranty, unlike home owner's insurance, covers repair or replacement of these items that break down due to normal wear and tear. Consider how many appliances and systems our homes require these days and protect your investments.
    Washer
    Dryer
    Refrigerator
    HVAC System
    Stove
    Hot Water Heater
    Garage Door Openers
There are different types of home warranties, too. Depending on your needs, home warranties can cover a single appliance or an entire system.
HOW TO OBSERVE HOME WARRANTY DAY
Review the value of a home warranty.
Learn how a policy works and what they cover.
If you have a home warranty, take the time to review your policy and make sure you have the right coverage for your home. Maybe you downsized or built an addition recently.
Share your experiences and use #HomeWarrantyDay to share on social media.
    NATIONAL HOME WARRANTY DAY HISTORY
In 2016, 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty created National Home Warranty Day to remind homeowners annually about the ways to protect each and every valuable component of their home.
The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the day to be observed on February 10, 2016, and each year thereafter.
    Home Warranty FAQ
    Q. Is a home warranty insurance?
    A. No. A home warranty is different from insurance. A home warranty covers the costs of service, repair, and replacement of specific appliances or home systems due to normal wear and tear. Homeowners insurance is triggered when fire, water, or other unexpected event damages the home or items in the home.
    Q. Do all home warranty companies cover the same things?
    A. No. Some companies may specialize in home systems such as electrical, HVAC or security systems while others focus on appliances.

@Kurtize,, always. Being grateful even when going through a lot helps to get through them a little bit easier.

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and I am working a full day at work today. I am still a bit tired, but not too terribly bad. I think I will survive. We ended up buying a new Fridge. So that took the last of our money. So no new couch or car repair. We still have to wait for the fence to be installed. Luckily We have the money for the fence. That will be good. Money goes so quickly when you are moving. Having to feed people that helped you move. I mean I guess you don't have to but it is the right thing to do. Also paying people who helped you move. That was a must since we hired the Amish to help. My son would not have been so good at helping. He has a nerve issue with his arms and he struggles with strength and so he barely could lift anything. He helped me clean and pack, but that was about it. His friends bailed on helping. They said they would and then backed out at the last second. So we hired 2 Amish teenagers. Paid them $250 each which they were really happy about.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - The old house is cleaned out and keys turned over on Sunday. I am hoping Chloe adjusts quick. It may not go well for her if she does not. Joe already just wants to keep her in the crate all day and only be let out to potty and eat and drink because she won't stop pottying in the new house.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday.

    NATIONAL SHUT-IN VISITATION DAY
National Shut-In Visitation Day on February 11th serves as a reminder to bring some cheerful company to people who are unable to leave their homes. Visiting a person who is shut-in makes a positive difference in that person’s life.
    #ShutInVisitationDay
Someone who is shut-in remains in their home due to physical, mental, or emotional reasons. These conditions can cause a person to feel lonely, isolated, sad, and cut off from the rest of the world. Sometimes they do not have family and friends available to visit and spend time with them. Many lack any kind of companionship.
We often take for granted our freedom to be able to go outside each day, go to work, eat lunch at a restaurant, work out at the gym or take a vacation. These are things that people who are shut-in are not able to experience on any day. A visit with them would brighten their day, and we could share our experiences with them.
HOW TO OBSERVE SHUT IN VISITATION DAY
Visit a person who is shut-in due to disability or illness and brighten their day. Become a companion. Some activities you can do include:
    Play a board game
    Read a book
    Watch a favorite movie
    Work on a jigsaw puzzle
Read the National Day Calendar and find ways to celebrate together
    Read the newspaper
Bring a new library book and offer to return old ones
    Try a new recipe
Take up a hobby you'll both enjoy
    Explore your ancestry together
