NATIONAL LOVE OUR CHILDREN DAY
National Love Our Children Day on the first Saturday in April focuses on raising awareness on child abuse during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This day honors all children and encourages us to develop loving, respectful relationships with our children.
#NationalLoveOurChildrenDay
Child abuse and neglect affect an estimated 700,000 children each year in the United States. Of these, the youngest are the most vulnerable. In 2015 in the United States, statistics from the U.S. Administration for Children & Families estimate that 1,670 children died as a result of abuse and neglect.
Prevention of child abuse is vital to every child's mental and physical health. Any abuse they experience carries life-long consequences and impacts their quality of life as adults. The day focuses on the prevention of child abuse and violence against children. It also is a day to bring awareness, resources, and support tools to communities.

NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY
National STUDENT-Athlete Day (NSAD), observed annually on April 6th, provides an opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes.
#StudentAthleteDay
In the United States, nearly 8 million student-athletes compete in team and individual sports. More than 500,000 will carry their career on to the college level. Not only do they succeed in athletic programs such as track and field, baseball, volleyball, and lacrosse, but they excel academically, too. Additionally, the day recognizes student-athletes who have a positive impact on their communities while maintaining and earning GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
Many student-athletes take on roles as leaders in their community and serve as role models for others. Others overcome adversity and provide exemplary representations of achievement. The program encourages families, schools, and communities to support their STUDENT-athletes in their endeavors. Cheer them on both on and off the court and field. Support them in their higher goals and aspirations.
HOW TO OBSERVE STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY
Support your student-athletes.
Nominate someone you know for the STUDENT-Athlete award.
Make sure your athletes are getting enough rest and eating right.
When they're at home, make sure they are familiar with all their academic resources.
Teach them how to cope with stress and the importance of injury care. Helping them to balance school, practice and a social life can become difficult, but not impossible.
Keep an open line of communication between you and your student-athlete.
Information and tools like these will help them as they pursue a college career. Once they advance to the college level it will be even more important that they access all the tools and resources available to them.
As a student-athlete, share your story. Give a student-athlete you know a shout out using #StudentAthleteDay to post on social media.
NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY HISTORY
The Institute for Sport & Social Justice (formerly known as the National Consortium for Academics & Sports) created National STUDENT-Athlete Day, in 1987, to honor the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities. Since its inception, more than 4.4 million student-athletes have been honored and celebration events take place on campuses nationwide each year.
Student-Athlete FAQ
Q. Are there benefits to being a student-athlete?A. Student-athletes develop teamwork, responsibility, organizational skills, and physical endurance. These skills and habits follow them into their future careers. There are also challenges to being a student-athlete, many of which help develop the skills mentioned above.
Q. Do student-athletes travel a lot?A. Travel is often required of student-athletes though some sports require more travel than others.
Q. Are student athletes required to achieve good grades?A. Yes and sometimes a student athlete may have to choose between their education and athletics. Balance school and sports has always been challenging and choosing what is best for the student is important.

@macrat12 Thank you for today's thoughts! I don't tell you every time you post, but I love reading them and honoring whatever day you hold up as special!
Thinking about everyone experiencing severe weather - and wishing eventual peace with the least amount of damage. I'm gazing out over my Pacific Ocean that is calm and peaceful today, but remembering that it, too, can rage and bring damage to whatever is in its way. 🙏

@Patti241 Glad you are not being affected by the weather either Patti. It's been crazy here temp wise, rain tons of rain, but NO Flooding!! We are also very fortunate.
@macrat12 Are you in an area that gets any tornado's? Lovely thoughts towards those who are and hoping you are not in such an area. We have a few members on PS4L who are, so far though they are not harmed though in those areas.
@lavalily Your area can be scary from time to time also with hurricanes. We always hope you are very safe.0 -
@Tabatha_Cain - loved reading of the my water broke game. So fun!
@Patti241 - Great to see you.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - you pegged it. Been busy on our team. Looking forward to a successful season for all teams!
Something new for me. I have been offered a job, that I accepted. Work at home personal assistant to DS. Not sure of hours or anything else. He's sending me a computer, he's starting a new website so I'll be involved in that and more. It is such an honor to get to work for his company.
Bringing it back around, so much of the credit for this opportunity comes via these 5% challenges, staying open to trying new things,as well as the better person I've become as a result of practicing healthy habits.
Thank you!
Praying for those in storms paths. Be safe.

Good Morning VIP friends:
I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and it is going to be a great day. I am back at work. Yesterday I took a personal day as my daughter needed my help with some things. We got all the baby clothes washed, bottles sanitized, dresser organized, night stand in place. We had some discussions on child birth so she isn't completely blind going into it. We also packed her go bag for the baby, and started on the go bag for her. She has to pick up some things from the store, but otherwise she is good to go. I am so happy I was the one who was able to help her with her go bag.
@lavalily - We still have people in our state without power. It was rough with the U.P. getting hit with the ice storm and then a couple days later the upper part of the mitten then got hit with tornadoes and storms. So we were double hit and several people were without power. Not enough resources to go around to restore power quickly to all locations.
@gouldsgranite - Thank you. I also thought it was fun. That is great that you got this opportunity.
Well I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday.
Tabatha

NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY
Each year in April, National Library Workers Day recognizes thevaluable contributions library staff make every day to their communitiesthrough their hard work and dedication. The observance takes place annually onthe Tuesday of National Library Week.
#NationalLibraryWorkersDay
Libraries do so much more than house the books we borrow nearlyany time of the day or night. (Yes, any time, day or night. Online reservationis highly popular.) Today as always, library workers are masters of research. They find the obscure quote (or partial misquote as the case may be) helpingyou to annotate your research paper correctly. When you're on a job search, they offer internet access and computers so you can polish up your résumé, too.
Libraries also archive local history. The names of pioneers andsettlers are usually recorded in books and newspapers of the era. Manylibraries across the country house those books, papers, and many otherresources.
Library workers champion our youth. They foster creativity andare a wealth of diverse opportunities for growth. Not only do they createprojects and inspiration for our youth, but they also create them withenthusiasm! It can be quite infectious.
Despite all libraries and their employees provide to theircommunities, their budgets and salaries continue to shrink. This day bringsawareness to this continuing trend. Libraries and their employees continuouslyutilize the latest technologies to make information, books, and resources moreaccessible. Their knowledge and ability bring valuable tools directly tocommunities that might otherwise go without. They also serve every age group, many organizations, and entire communities.

@gouldsgranite Oh, Janey, this was so much fun to read!!! The 5% Helps us to help others, and be the leaders we wish to be and you EXCEL!!! We knew you had what it takes and we were RIGHT!!! But, you were the one who worked so hard. ENJOY working for DS!!! NO DOUBT you'll shine!! We look forward to any stories you share with us.
@Tabatha_Cain Awww super precious to be able to help your D with the questions and any fears she had to do with the birth. Asking your Mom as she did, she'll always carry that as super special. As will you!!! Hope work went well. YO that the UP had tornados!! WOW!!! That's like us getting them, were they mostly F1's or F0s? Here if we get them and we do now, we never used to, they are generally a F1. Some damage, but not nearly like the lower states. Plus the other storms. YO!
@macrat12 I remember it hitting Joplin!! We had a member on the Dawggie team who lived there. We were friends so in contact as she could be after. Her place was spared, but not by much. She was not the same after. Once the buildings are built back up (if they are) businesses open again, many do not realize the trauma does not go away that easily and will always affect them. TY TY TY for letting me know of the documentary!! Did you live there? A friend of mine here did live in Ohio when their school got hit, she was a teenager (now about my age or within 10 years). She put it up on Facebook the other day.
we had SNOW TODAY!! It didn't build up, but it was so cool to have. The weather continues to be CRAZY!! In the 50s then the 30's back to the 50s. Eventually, it'll not snow again until the fall. I'll MISS IT!0
