NATIONAL LOVE OUR CHILDREN DAY
National Love Our Children Day on the first Saturday in April focuses on raising awareness on child abuse during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This day honors all children and encourages us to develop loving, respectful relationships with our children.
#NationalLoveOurChildrenDay
Child abuse and neglect affect an estimated 700,000 children each year in the United States. Of these, the youngest are the most vulnerable. In 2015 in the United States, statistics from the U.S. Administration for Children & Families estimate that 1,670 children died as a result of abuse and neglect.
Prevention of child abuse is vital to every child's mental and physical health. Any abuse they experience carries life-long consequences and impacts their quality of life as adults. The day focuses on the prevention of child abuse and violence against children. It also is a day to bring awareness, resources, and support tools to communities.

NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY
National STUDENT-Athlete Day (NSAD), observed annually on April 6th, provides an opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes.
#StudentAthleteDay
In the United States, nearly 8 million student-athletes compete in team and individual sports. More than 500,000 will carry their career on to the college level. Not only do they succeed in athletic programs such as track and field, baseball, volleyball, and lacrosse, but they excel academically, too. Additionally, the day recognizes student-athletes who have a positive impact on their communities while maintaining and earning GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
Many student-athletes take on roles as leaders in their community and serve as role models for others. Others overcome adversity and provide exemplary representations of achievement. The program encourages families, schools, and communities to support their STUDENT-athletes in their endeavors. Cheer them on both on and off the court and field. Support them in their higher goals and aspirations.
HOW TO OBSERVE STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY
Support your student-athletes.
Nominate someone you know for the STUDENT-Athlete award.
Make sure your athletes are getting enough rest and eating right.
When they're at home, make sure they are familiar with all their academic resources.
Teach them how to cope with stress and the importance of injury care. Helping them to balance school, practice and a social life can become difficult, but not impossible.
Keep an open line of communication between you and your student-athlete.
Information and tools like these will help them as they pursue a college career. Once they advance to the college level it will be even more important that they access all the tools and resources available to them.
As a student-athlete, share your story. Give a student-athlete you know a shout out using #StudentAthleteDay to post on social media.
NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY HISTORY
The Institute for Sport & Social Justice (formerly known as the National Consortium for Academics & Sports) created National STUDENT-Athlete Day, in 1987, to honor the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities. Since its inception, more than 4.4 million student-athletes have been honored and celebration events take place on campuses nationwide each year.
Student-Athlete FAQ
Q. Are there benefits to being a student-athlete?A. Student-athletes develop teamwork, responsibility, organizational skills, and physical endurance. These skills and habits follow them into their future careers. There are also challenges to being a student-athlete, many of which help develop the skills mentioned above.
Q. Do student-athletes travel a lot?A. Travel is often required of student-athletes though some sports require more travel than others.
Q. Are student athletes required to achieve good grades?A. Yes and sometimes a student athlete may have to choose between their education and athletics. Balance school and sports has always been challenging and choosing what is best for the student is important.

@macrat12 Thank you for today's thoughts! I don't tell you every time you post, but I love reading them and honoring whatever day you hold up as special!
Thinking about everyone experiencing severe weather - and wishing eventual peace with the least amount of damage. I'm gazing out over my Pacific Ocean that is calm and peaceful today, but remembering that it, too, can rage and bring damage to whatever is in its way. 🙏

@Patti241 Glad you are not being affected by the weather either Patti. It's been crazy here temp wise, rain tons of rain, but NO Flooding!! We are also very fortunate.
@macrat12 Are you in an area that gets any tornado's? Lovely thoughts towards those who are and hoping you are not in such an area. We have a few members on PS4L who are, so far though they are not harmed though in those areas.
@lavalily Your area can be scary from time to time also with hurricanes. We always hope you are very safe.1 -
@Tabatha_Cain - loved reading of the my water broke game. So fun!
@Patti241 - Great to see you.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - you pegged it. Been busy on our team. Looking forward to a successful season for all teams!
Something new for me. I have been offered a job, that I accepted. Work at home personal assistant to DS. Not sure of hours or anything else. He's sending me a computer, he's starting a new website so I'll be involved in that and more. It is such an honor to get to work for his company.
Bringing it back around, so much of the credit for this opportunity comes via these 5% challenges, staying open to trying new things,as well as the better person I've become as a result of practicing healthy habits.
Thank you!
Praying for those in storms paths. Be safe.

Good Morning VIP friends:
I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and it is going to be a great day. I am back at work. Yesterday I took a personal day as my daughter needed my help with some things. We got all the baby clothes washed, bottles sanitized, dresser organized, night stand in place. We had some discussions on child birth so she isn't completely blind going into it. We also packed her go bag for the baby, and started on the go bag for her. She has to pick up some things from the store, but otherwise she is good to go. I am so happy I was the one who was able to help her with her go bag.
@lavalily - We still have people in our state without power. It was rough with the U.P. getting hit with the ice storm and then a couple days later the upper part of the mitten then got hit with tornadoes and storms. So we were double hit and several people were without power. Not enough resources to go around to restore power quickly to all locations.
@gouldsgranite - Thank you. I also thought it was fun. That is great that you got this opportunity.
Well I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday.
Tabatha

NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY
Each year in April, National Library Workers Day recognizes thevaluable contributions library staff make every day to their communitiesthrough their hard work and dedication. The observance takes place annually onthe Tuesday of National Library Week.
#NationalLibraryWorkersDay
Libraries do so much more than house the books we borrow nearlyany time of the day or night. (Yes, any time, day or night. Online reservationis highly popular.) Today as always, library workers are masters of research. They find the obscure quote (or partial misquote as the case may be) helpingyou to annotate your research paper correctly. When you're on a job search, they offer internet access and computers so you can polish up your résumé, too.
Libraries also archive local history. The names of pioneers andsettlers are usually recorded in books and newspapers of the era. Manylibraries across the country house those books, papers, and many otherresources.
Library workers champion our youth. They foster creativity andare a wealth of diverse opportunities for growth. Not only do they createprojects and inspiration for our youth, but they also create them withenthusiasm! It can be quite infectious.
Despite all libraries and their employees provide to theircommunities, their budgets and salaries continue to shrink. This day bringsawareness to this continuing trend. Libraries and their employees continuouslyutilize the latest technologies to make information, books, and resources moreaccessible. Their knowledge and ability bring valuable tools directly tocommunities that might otherwise go without. They also serve every age group, many organizations, and entire communities.

@Tabatha_Cain - Wonderful times you and your DD getting ready for the baby.
Taking the trailer to our DD's for a few days. Papashop will redo their flooring in her motorhome. Talked to DS and my computer and phone are getting assembled. I have a few weeks to prep. Good timing with Spring Challenge. Feeling honored to be alert & available to help those around us. Looking forward to a road trip tomorrow. Going through the city. @gouldsgranite Oh, Janey, this was so much fun to read!!! The 5% Helps us to help others, and be the leaders we wish to be and you EXCEL!!! We knew you had what it takes and we were RIGHT!!! But, you were the one who worked so hard. ENJOY working for DS!!! NO DOUBT you'll shine!! We look forward to any stories you share with us.
@Tabatha_Cain Awww super precious to be able to help your D with the questions and any fears she had to do with the birth. Asking your Mom as she did, she'll always carry that as super special. As will you!!! Hope work went well. YO that the UP had tornados!! WOW!!! That's like us getting them, were they mostly F1's or F0s? Here if we get them and we do now, we never used to, they are generally a F1. Some damage, but not nearly like the lower states. Plus the other storms. YO!
@macrat12 I remember it hitting Joplin!! We had a member on the Dawggie team who lived there. We were friends so in contact as she could be after. Her place was spared, but not by much. She was not the same after. Once the buildings are built back up (if they are) businesses open again, many do not realize the trauma does not go away that easily and will always affect them. TY TY TY for letting me know of the documentary!! Did you live there? A friend of mine here did live in Ohio when their school got hit, she was a teenager (now about my age or within 10 years). She put it up on Facebook the other day.
we had SNOW TODAY!! It didn't build up, but it was so cool to have. The weather continues to be CRAZY!! In the 50s then the 30's back to the 50s. Eventually, it'll not snow again until the fall. I'll MISS IT!1 -
@Dianedoessmiles1 I'm about 45 minutes west of Joplin and my manager's friend worked for the school district so that's how I saw the security camera footage.
Good Wednesday Morning VIP Friends, It's hard to believe that we begin week 1 of 8 in a few days. Is it just me or is anyone else getting weird friend requests mostly from men who are not members of any groups I'm in. I get those on a daily or every couple day basis not sure how to report them as spam.

NATIONAL FORMER PRISONER OF WAR RECOGNITION DAY
National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day on April 9th honors the courageous men and women who have endured brutal treatment at the hands of their captors. As a result, they've also suffered separation from family and displayed incredible endurance and faith during their captivity.
#FormerPOWRecognitionDay
On this day in 1942, the largest number of U.S. Forces were captured by Japanese troops in the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines. After battling through extreme conditions and prolonged battles, the captured troops were forced to march 65 miles to the prison camp. Without medical attention, food or water thousands died. The mistreatment continued for those who survived the brutal journey. In the compounds, deep in the unfamiliar jungle, the hardships, brutality, and suffering lasted more than two years for those who could survive.
Since the Revolutionary War, over half a million service members have been captured. This number does not reflect those lost or never recovered. However, each POW endures conditions much like the ones described above. These heroes deserve a day of recognition.
HOW TO OBSERVE FORMER POW RECOGNITION DAY
Government officials, veterans, civic and private organizations observe the day with ceremonies and events.
Some states require organizations and government facilities to fly the POW/MIA flag on this day.
Honor former POWs by helping to organize events.
Ensure your organization flies the POW/MIA flag.
Volunteer to help a veteran organization.
Learn more by visiting the American Legion.
Use #FormerPOWRecognitionDay to share on social media.
NATIONAL FORMER POW RECOGNITION DAY HISTORY
In 1984, a movement led by former POWs began seeking a day recognizing former Prisoners of War on April 9th each year. In 1988, Congress approved legislation setting April 9th to commemorate the date the tragic number of captives were taken prisoner on Bataan. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed National Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day on April 1, 1988, through Presidential Proclamation 5788. He set the observance for April 9, 1988. Since then, through legislation and Presidential Proclamations, the observance carries on.
POW FAQ
Q. How old is the POW/MIA flag?A. The National League of POW/MIA Families approved the flag in 1972.
Q. What does it say at the bottom of the POW/MIA flag?A. "You are not forgotten" is printed at the bottom of the POW/MIA flag representing the commitment to bring all POW and MIA personnel home.

NATIONAL ERASE SELF-NEGATIVITY DAY
National Erase Self-Negativity Day
April 10 means today is National Erase Self-Negativity Day on the National Day Calendar. We are spending the day encouraging everyone to take steps toward erasing the influence negative self-talk has on our lives. It's also a day where we will focus on changing this negative habit into a time of personal empowerment.
#EraseSelfNegativityDay
Some people think speaking negatively to themselves is a way for them to identify their downfalls or shortcomings and move forward. Even though we may believe negative self-talk is a reasonable and a harmless thing to do, this type of behavior can significantly damage self-esteem over time. We are here to tell you speaking negatively to ourselves is a habit. A bad habit. The good news is we can begin to erase the habit of negative self-talk starting today on National Erase Self-Negativity Day.
Identifying 5Cs of Negative Self-Talk
Each of us has a critical inner voice. This voice can be motivating, or it can do more harm than good. Many of us can easily become trapped in a cycle of negativity, with one critical thought leading to the next. This cycle can stop us from being able to move forward and damage our confidence. These words, if left unchecked, could potentially lead to mental health issues. It is important that we are aware of the five key types of negative self-talk.
Complaining is voicing dissatisfaction about something. Complaining is a form of negative self-talk and over time is a habit that prevents growth and progress. Complaining becomes less negative when we provide a solution or alternative to the complaint.
Criticizing is pointing out what you don’t like whether that’s about yourself, someone else or a situation. Criticism is often a negative habit that starts from within that works its way out into our environment. Rather than criticizing, try framing it as positive feedback to help yourself learn and grow.
Concern can happen when we feel we are losing control, thus creating a spiral of negative thoughts. The best way to show concern is to present ideas that counteract your negative thoughts.
Commiserating is when we gather with our friends and family to share "life" experiences, including things that are upsetting. Sharing grievances can be therapeutic, but it can also be the perfect time for negative self-talk. By simply adding a few positive remarks to any negative conversation, your mind will create a positive outlook and allow for encouraging responses from others, too.
Catastrophizing is negative self-talk that paints a picture of the worst case scenarios in our mind and makes problems seem bigger than they really are. Learning to accept situations for what they are will help you focus on finding a more constructive way to deal with the problem at hand.
Self-negativity is a habit that can be changed with work and commitment. In fact, the key to erasing self-negativity is through awareness and small habit changes. As negative thoughts arise, lighten them by reframing your mind with a positive mindset by catching, checking, and erasing it.
Join us as we celebrate National Erase Self-Negativity Day across social media using the hashtag #EraseSelfNegativityDay. Share your stories, suggestions, and support to empower and encourage one another to speak to ourselves with compassion. It's time to begin spreading positivity, starting with yourself.
An Exercise to Erase Negativity
To erase self-negativity, we need to start by identifying the primary, negative self-talk words that we play over and over again in our minds. After we recognize what those words are, we can take the necessary steps to actively embrace our personal power to face our negative self-talk and erase this damaging habit.
The path to positivity lies ahead!
POSITIVE COLLABORATION
In 2024, Dr. Elizabeth Scott, PhD., the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), Pilot Pen, and National Day Calendar began working together to create National Erase Self-Negativity Day on April 10. This new National Day encourages everyone to take big, empowering steps toward erasing the influence negative words have on our lives. Each year on April 10, we focus on changing the negative habit of harmful words and focus more on increasing a positive outlook to live a healthy life year-round. Pilot Pen also invites you to join us as we focus on facing and erasing the damaging words and phrases that encapsulate our negative self-talk.

@macrat12 - friend requests from strange (STRANGE) men, earn a quick ignore from me.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - Thank you for your encouragement and kind words.
1 -
@macrat12 I find if I let them sit in the request room for days they tend to ignore me for a while. It comes in waves. Because I do the recruiting my posts are out there in the public forums. MFP is aware of them, but now these freaks are usually BOT related, and MFP as well as others can not keep up with them. I never ever ever look at any of their pages (I doubt any others do or very few!) yet enough must because they do NOT give up. It's just what happens on any public forum.
@gouldsgranite I hope you enjoy the new job!! Question: If DS asks you to do something you do not want to do are you going to lay on the floor while kicking and screaming at the top of your voice? LOLOL Hey, that would be so funny. I did copy someone I saw online. My GS was trying in the store started to cry because he wanted something and his Mom said no, I got on the floor also and acted the same, LOL he got up, came over to me "Grandma are you okay?" I laughed so hard. He's not pulled that with me along from what she says he only acts out now at home when he's exhausted. He has a hard time realizing when it's time to give himself a time out for rest. She's helping him to recognize it. He will be 8 next month ALREADY!! MAN!! WHERE DOES THE TIME GO???? His little brother will be GULP 2 in a few weeks. WHERE DOES THE TIME GO!!??? My GD is amazing with the kids!!1 -
Good Morning VIP friends:
I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Friday and it is going to be a great day. I am sure of it. We have an updated ultrasound for my first grandson. I will share it with you. They are saying he currently weighs 7 lbs which I think is wrong. They always seem wrong with the weight. They told my niece that her son was going to be 10 lbs so she opted for a c-section because he was so big. After he was born they weighed him and he was just over 8 lbs. So I told my daughter not to worry. I am sure he is not quite 7lbs yet. We are excited to meet him any day now. My daughter says she is having lots of pressure below. No contractions yet, but she said she feels like he moved lower. So he is probably getting into position. The doctor said everything is looking good. So we will see. His official due date is May 5th.
@gouldsgranite - It was great. Sounds like you will be busy.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - The storms were bad. Not terrible, but I am sure they were probably an F1 tornado. We have had enough tornadoes in Michigan already this year to surpass by a few the amount we had in all of 2024. Isn't that crazy. Oh I will definitely not be missing snow.
@macrat12 - I am getting a lot of requests from men. What is crazy is that my profile picture is my wedding photo. I just decline the request and move on. I know those who are in my groups and those who are not.
Well I hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

NATIONAL PET DAY
National Pet Day on April 11th dedicates the day to those pets who may not always get the companionship and attention pets deserve. While loving our pets is something we do every day, the observance encourages helping out orphaned pet companions. It will improve their health and enhance their opportunities for adoption.

Sometimes their human companions aren't well. Making sure their forever furry friends are receiving the best of care will help relieve stress and worry.

Maintain your pet-friendly home. Keep cords and toxins secure from your four-legged friends. This includes phone chargers.
Verify when vaccinations are due and schedule an appointment to update if they are due.
Check collars to ensure tags are secure and numbers are current. We sometimes forget to update this information when we move or change numbers.

Thankfully, my extra one works very well) I now have an all in one computer, I LOVE THIS FOOLISH Thing!! It has only one wire that plugs in everything is in the monitor which is small also! Well, it's a 26" screen, but it's maybe at the most a half inch thick.

PASSOVER BEGINS
Every year, the spring festival called Passover is celebrated for 8 days. Traditionally known as a major Jewish holiday, many Christians have also begun to take part in celebrating Passover. The date of the festival is in accordance with the first full moon in the Hebrew calendar month, Nissan. For this reason, the date changes every year.
#Passover
The Hebrew word for Passover is Pesach. The holiday is also called the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The roots of this Jewish holiday can be found in the Old Testament of the Bible. The main purpose of the holiday is to commemorate the Biblical story of Exodus. This is when God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
The book of Exodus recounts the historical event. A leader named Pharaoh wanted to control the number of Jews living in Egypt. To do this, he ordered the killing of all male Jewish babies. The mother of Moses put him in a basket on the Nile River. Pharaoh’s daughter found and adopted Moses. When he grew up, Moses fled to the desert where God told him to go back to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery.
When Moses asked Pharaoh to let his people go, Pharaoh told him no. Each time, God sent a plague on Egypt. Finally, the Lord commanded the death of all the firstborn in Egypt, including Pharaoh's household, but excluding the Jewish people who had the blood of the lamb on their doors.
The Lord told Moses, however, that he would pass over any home that had the blood of a lamb on their doorposts. It was after this final plague that Pharaoh finally let the Israelites go. Because they had to leave in a hurry, there wasn’t enough time for their bread dough to rise. This is why Passover is also referred to as the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
HOW TO OBSERVE PASSOVER
The holiday begins with the Passover Seder. This is a ritual feast that includes reading, drinking wine, washing the hands, eating special foods, and signing. A traditional Seder meal consists of four cups of wine, veggies dipped in saltwater, flatbread called matzah, bitter herbs, such as horseradish, and roasted lamb. Each of the foods are arranged on a Seder plate. The food and wine are ingested in a certain order. The procedure is written in a book called the Haggadah.
Besides hosting a Seder meal with your friends and loved ones, other ways to celebrate Passover include:
Read Exodus 13:3-6, Leviticus 23:6-8, Deuteronomy 16:1-8.
Read the book, The Feasts of the Lord by Kevin Howard Marvin Rosenthal.
Watch the movie, “Exodus: Gods and Kings.”
Clean all the yeast from your house for the duration of the holiday.
Share how you choose to celebrate this day on social media with #Passover.
PASSOVER HISTORY
The Jewish people have been celebrating Passover for over 3,000 years. The command to commemorate the Feast of Unleavened Bread is found in various passages of the Bible. One of those passages is Deuteronomy 16:3, which says, “You shall not eat leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat with it unleavened bread, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), so that you may remember all the days of your life the day when you came out of the land of Egypt.” Because he was Jewish, Jesus celebrated the Passover, which is why many Christians choose to celebrate this traditional Jewish holiday.

NATIONAL MAKE LUNCH COUNT DAY
On April 13th, we have an opportunity to break a trend that has been occurring around the country by joining National Make Lunch Count Day.
#NationalMakeLunchCountDay
According to a recent study commissioned by TGI Fridays, the majority of U.S. workers suffer from “FOLO” – otherwise known as a “Fear of Lunching Out.” Many workers eat lunch at their desk at least twice a week (73%) while one-third have lunch at their desk every day of the week. Don't fear lunching out any longer!
Taking a break from the workday improves productivity. That includes taking a lunch break. Leaving the office or even your desk for 20-30 minutes to refuel also reinvigorates your creative juices. Our brains and bodies need the daily break. When you return, you'll be refreshed and ready for new ideas and approaches to whatever your job throws your way.
The observance is here to remedy FOLO and help American workers increase their creativity and productivity.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL MAKE LUNCH COUNT DAY
Break the cycle of FOLO. Get away from your desk.
Join your co-workers and enjoy a real lunch with stimulating conversation.
Share your favorite ways to make lunch count and promote them with your peers.
Don't just do it today, do it every day! Use #NationalMakeLunchCount to share on social media.
NATIONAL MAKE LUNCH COUNT DAY HISTORY
TGI Fridays founded National Make Lunch Count Day in 2016 to remind American workers to get away from their desks for lunch.
The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the day to be observed on April 13th, annually.
Lunch FAQ
Q. What are some great ways to break the ice over lunch?
A. Getting to know your co-workers can be awkward sometimes. Great conversation starters include:
What was the best movie you watched last year?
What skill do you wish you had but don't?
If you could travel anywhere in the world right this moment, where would it be?
Everyone has at least one talent. What's yours?
Q. What can I eat to keep from feeling bogged down when I return to my desk?
A. Include fresh vegetables and lean proteins with your lunch. Restaurant portions tend to be oversized, so divide your plate in half and take the rest home for supper. Finally, drink water or tea instead of carbonated beverages.

Good afternoon and happy and blessed Sunday. I was thinking about the one and basically the only thing I miss about Texas is we always had lots of birds. They were in the tree on side of the house. We had black birds they call crackle because of their sound but it really wasn't bad, then birds that sorta looked like robins, doves, and small finch like birds. Plus lots of geese, I never saw so many geese. I don't see or hear that many birds here where we are at in Oregon.
For the heck of it I checked what holidays/special days there are for today. Not counting other countries there are a few:
International FND Awareness Day(functional neurological disorder )
Scrabble Day (also know as National Scrabble Day)
Thomas Jefferson Day (also know as Thomas Jefferson's birthday)
The Start of Passover (Also known as Pesach, Observed the 15th of Nisan in the Hebrew calendar)
On This Day in History (Things that happened on this day in years past)
I realize this is of real value to know but just thought interesting.
I went to Palm Sunday services and saw many old friends that I hadn't seen in 4 years. That's all that's
new with me. Hugs all

NATIONAL REACH AS HIGH AS YOU CAN DAY
National Reach as High as You Can Day on April 14th encourages us to evaluate our goals and do our best to reach them.
#ReachAsHighAsYouCanDay
We can define "reach" in many ways. Search Guinness World Records for highest reach and Guinness gives us 322 results. We can reach for our dreams or our goals. Reach for the stars or the sky. We can even reach for the balloon floating away from us much like the one that carried the Wizard of Oz away from Dorothy.
Of course, records can be set for the oldest or the youngest to reach a particular location, age, height or status.
While this day may not be about setting records, it is certainly about reaching high; higher than we think we can. We often become complacent. National Reach as High as You Can Day is just a reminder on the calendar not to let your dreams go adrift. Reach for them. Reach as high as you can!
HOW TO OBSERVE REACH AS HIGH AS YOU CAN DAY
Share your goals.
Create new goals.
Encourage others to reach for their goals.
