I've been anxious today. I feel like I try so hard to perfect; as if maybe if I'm perfect my mom won't yell or find something to be upset about. Constantly trying to keep her in a state of peace. I honestly liked her better when she drank every night; at least then she was predictable. I knew at least when she was drinking she was calm and nice. Now, even as a grown woman, i find myself uncomfortable and afraid of most women, never knowing when they will get emotional and snap. I'm always trying to make people happy with me. Maybe if I'm perfect, people will be nice. I know that's not true. Just venting. I want a good relationship with my mother, a healthy one where we can calmly discuss things. Unfortunately, I see that she doesn't have that kind of relationship with anyone.

Sorry to hear that @justgirl81. Was there something about that day in particular that made you anxious? I’m glad you know your mom’s reactions have nothing to do with you - it’s all her - and please don’t expend any energy trying to change it. Been there. Done that. Release it and save yourself some stress, heartache, wrinkles! 🥹

Ive come to realize I can’t play psychologist to my loved ones - I’m not one and then constantly think I diagnosed it, can solve it, whatever. I can’t. I have to leave it at the altar. I just wish they’d get the professional help they need.

Hang in there and try not to stress @justgril81. Not sure of your age but the recent passings of folks I knew were relatively young under 65 but led very stressful lives. No one saw it coming. Just a reminder what stress can do the body besides the fitness issue folks talk about - raised cortisol, belly fat - etc.

Mother/daughter relationships are complicated. And it’s not an exaggeration that EVERY female friend I have has their own unique issue(s) - me too! Drives us to tears, therapy, not so healthy behaviors - etc.

    Let the stress out!🙏🏋🏼‍♀️

A few weeks to my reunion so buckling down! My niece found “yasso” bars. They’re low calories Greek yogurt ice cream bars that I love. That will help with my sweet tooth. 1.8 pounds to go!🙏🙏

I'm so happy for you CeeBee! 💪

I've still got about 3 to 5 stubborn pounds to destroy.

We WILL destroy them! But I will admit these pounds wouldn’t be as stubborn if I controlled my mouth better. So to help me I will ponder on the following:

I love and appreciate your reminder to focus on standing on God's promises CeeBee! Thank you sister! I believe walking with Lord Jesus is the only way, truth, and life. 💗

    Another verse I find helpful….

    1 John 4:4

"You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."

Love that first @justgirl81. Thank you for sharing it. Keep sending positive vibes and thoughts! I’m stuck in my anger dealing with my dad and it’s serving no one except feeding my pride. Living with a hoarder is hard - always seems like selfishness with no consideration how it affects others when I know intellectually it’s a mental illness from a lot of past pain/issues/beliefs. Deep breaths!
Will continue to work out and eat well!

    CeeBee,

I take it your father is a hoarder? If so, I would like to share some thoughts I've gleaned from some recent reads that I hope may help.

I think our society has gotten far too accustomed to labeling destructive habits as "mental illnesses" that we should just accept and feel sorry for. When people abuse drugs, alcohol, and other substances, we call the "addicts" and give them this victim mentality that entitles them to continue their practice. In doing this, we actually take away the truth that God has given us all free will as well as the ability to choose correctly. They deny their sense of responsibility and continue to feel entitled to act like selfish children because society tells them the have a disease and thus they can play the victim role. I think this is a terrible attitude that thrives in our world today and creates more and more destructive behaviors. Although you can't make him behave as a responsible adult, accountable to God for ALL his actions, you CAN set boundaries and consequences in your relationship if he doesn't change.

So, although doesn't HAVE TO change to conform to your standards, you likewise don't have to lower your standards to conform to his destructive habits. That doesn't help you and it doesn't help him. What we can do is what Lord Jesus did; lovingly tell him the truth (that his habit/choice/action is destructive) and if he chooses to follow you in behaving correctly, then he will be free.

Ultimately, CONSEQUENCES change people, not lectures.
