I met a friend today in my local park. She tried out a Nordic Walking group.Just wondering if anyone else on here has ever tried it ? You hold the poles & get into a specific swing it is meant to use more calories than normal walking & strengthen your arms & abs. Also beneficial for people with walking or balance issues.

@jessicakrall8 girl, you are welcome anytime!! I see a road trip in your future! And Dan would make all his amazing (and healthy!) meals. If we had you and @abrightrn here at the same time, a good time would be had for sure!!

    Hey y'all:

Hope everyone is having a great day…it's overcast here, but no longer windy and raining, so I'll take it. Having an easy day…reading, walking, playing with Betty, doing a little cleaning, cooking…

@abrightrn Set yourself a reminder on your phone for your weigh-ins…I had to do that ages ago or I'd forget too…always too much going on. Nice loss this week!! How are you doing on the new book? I'm a few chapters in and it's good…

@izzyred9400 - I’ve never tried Nordic Walking but it sounds like a good full body workout for all age groups. I’ve used the Nordic track at the gym, and I like that machine, but I think it’s meant to simulate cross country skiing. Are you going to try it with your friend? It’s nice to have a person or group to exercise with and socialize. 😊

@izzyred9400 I have a set of trekking poles that I have been using primarily when I go on hikes. I practiced with them in the yard first and it was pretty easy to get into the rhythm of using them. I appreciate them when the trails have a lot of roots, rocks or muddy spots, they also come in handy when using stepping stones or crossing creeks. Since I have gotten comfortable using them I’m going to try them for walking in my neighborhood this winter to see if they will help with snow and ice.
I can see how they would add extra to a walk. When I walk in my house I usually do more exaggerated arm movements, it helps increase my heartbeat and engages my upper body.

@PatriceFitnessPal Yeah, 75 hard while traveling sounds impossible to me. Even if you plan stuff, you never know what happens. I have read about a lot of failures due to delayed planes! I am really bummed about getting sick though. My whole routine is off and all the habits went out the window. I do really well when it comes to a challenge like this, but when I am on my own so to speak, it easily falls apart. Granted, this wasn't really my fault, but I for sure could have done better with my food at least. When do you think you will restart?

@izzyred9400 My mom got trekking poles a while back. I suggested them to her because she often has problems with her back. When she walks at home it isn't really a problem, but there it is mostly paved. When she visits here, we walk in the forest a lot and that seems to give her problems. My mom is the least coordinated person I know and she struggled a lot to walk with them! We practiced outside on my drive way and everytime she moved the same leg/arm I would go 'nope!' and she would restart. Really crazy how she forgot to walk when she had the poles, lol. I insisted we keep at it though and she did get better. I can't tell you if it helped her or not, because she left them here and didn't use them during our forest walks, only for a short bit on some pavement. I have read a lot of good things about it though and also considered trying it myself because you burn more calories. But then I think I already do enough and my nature walks are relax time so I have decided not to make it 'harder'.

Good morning Shape Shifters. I was getting ready for bed last night, shut off my computer and then realised I hadn't posted here yet, oops! I am slowly starting to feel better, though I am not 100% yet. I am happy I managed to go for a walk yesterday morning though. It was a very slow 5 kilometers, but that is okay. I felt a lot better mentally just from getting fresh air and my mushroom fix. Still not been to the gym yet. Too tired and I am getting pretty bad headaches. Head is still a bit stuffy. Happy Thursday everyone! 💜

    Good morning, y'all:

I'm up early this morning…had some weird dreams overnight and they bothered me…probably missing family but sometimes dreams stay with you…I dream about my mom often, usually that I've forgotten to do something related to her medicine or taking her to see her doctor, etc. It was a lot and I always felt lacking. On top of that, I miss her all the time. It was just me and her for many, many years.

Trying to do a few things around the house today…catching up on some laundry, organizing, etc. In between, reading the October book for our Zoom meeting next Wednesday. Love the book and from an author I was unaware of before now, so it's always nice to discover new authors. Who else is reading The First Witch of Boston for our Book Club? Hope to see you guys on camera on Wednesday night. @nancyinmiami is doing such a great job with it. She's so creative and organized and well, as you can imagine, when we all get together, it's just a great time! One of the best things, besides loving storyline discussions (since we're all voracious readers), is getting to know our team members and other team members better!! We're had a few meetings now and I can't tell you how much I look forward to them every month. I feel like I make new friends each time and catch up with the others I've known for a while…it's just great. I encourage you to join us if you're able. You won't regret it.

Gotta go fold some clothes now. I hope you're having a wonderful day. It's cool (upper 60s) in Virginia today and a bit windy…nice fall weather. It is sunny, so just a beautiful day!

Hello Shape Shifters. I had an okay day. Went for a walk, got healthy groceries, did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and did a load of laundry. It feels very nice to finally have that done. I got a package in the evening with some toys for Tinus and a simple puzzle feeder. He has been obsessed and very impatient with treats lately. It has happened twice that he ate them so fast he threw them up again 10 seconds later! So I figured we would give the puzzle a try. I had one in the past that one was too difficult and he lost interest really fast. I thought he would be too dumb for this one too, but it went better than I expected. He doesn't really understand the treats are hidden under the pieces, but he knows he has to paw at stuff to get something so I think he will eventually figure it out. He liked the new toys I got as well and ran around the house quite a bit in the evening. I am about 90% recovered and starting 75 hard again tomorrow. Getting sick really demotivated me. I was so excited to do it again at the start of the month and now I just feel bleh about it. Doesn't matter though, I am sure it feels good again once I get going. I think I will reread 'Can't hurt me' by Goggins to get me in the right mindset again. Love his books. Good night everyone 💜

@Pupowl - I think I’ll restart 75 Hard on November 1st because I have a business trip to San Diego, California from October 26-29.

I’ll adhere to the guidelines informally until then. My son and I are planning to run 10 miles/ 16 kilometers tomorrow (Saturday) after we return home. We’re at the Tokyo airport now, waiting to board our (14-hour!) flight. His friends adjusted the rules for their version of 75 Hard to run 10 miles per week as part of the workout schedule. We walked a lot but we didn’t manage to run, as planned, because our schedule was full of outings with family and friends. We’ll see how it goes!

It seems as though our team is doing well maintaining or losing weight this week — great work! I’m looking forward to getting back into my routine “tomorrow” (though we actually land the same day 😊). Sorry to hear about your daughter’s accident and your tough week 🥵 @nancyinmiami! I hope things get better soon!
