Just jumping in and marking my spot for later! Question? I see the "image" showing a plank on your forearms. I have always done them on my hands...like the start to a full push-up. Does it matter? Also, for the side planks, I am assuming you stack your feet and are on your forearms for that?
Thanks, and Happy June!0 -

 Good Morning to all my planking friends,
Thanks, Jlbay for getting us started for June.
Kackie, there are no rules on this challenge......I like the planks on forearms better but whatever you do is fine....this is really a challenge with yourself and we just report and support and encourage each other:bigsmile:
I have to walk my dogs now and I'll do my planks later and report them.

The forearm/dolphin plank is just a variation. I think it is a good variation if the push-up style plank hurts your wrists. You can do whatever plank variation you want for the challenge. I've done both and the core work seems to be the same, but the arms are worked differently. But, everyone's different and might feel the work in different areas.
Side plank: start in push up position and pull your body up onto one arm, feet stacked with the outer edge of the bottom foot pressing into the floor. Then you raise your top hand straight up. Don't let your hips drop and keep body in a straight line. A beginner variation is to start with both legs bent and resting on the side of the knee and calf on floor, then one leg bent for the next level. It is killer!
Google "plank variations" - there are tons of pics of planks.0 -

Thanks, Barbie and jlbay, for the "instructions" and tips. I do planks in yoga but didn't know if you had all decided on one kind for everyone. And the side planks are tougher!!!
Pepplee: Have fun in Aruba...I can picture Planks on the beach in a bikini for sure:-)0 -

Day 1 regular plank 1 minute 57 seconds
Day 2 side planks 50 seconds on each side0 -

Day 3
At least, it is over here in the UK.
I did a lot of planks in my yoga practice today, including 2 planks that I held until I couldn't any more.
No times for today - but I got my plank in.0 -
 I left my house at 5:30 AM Saturday to meet a friend to drive two hours to an all day line dance workshop (8AM to 10PM). I did my planks before I left but didn't have time to post them.
1. 2 minutes
2. 1 minute 30 seconds.
We stayed in a motel Saturday night and when I got up I did my planks in the room before going for a walk for an hour
1. 2 minutes
2. 1 minute 30 seconds
3. 30 seconds.
I'm home now and glad to be here but not as glad as the dogs who bounced all over when they saw me. :bigsmile:0 -
Sunday, yesterday I was not feeling well but pretty good today. Tonight before bed I did my planks.
I am improving. Today I did...
knee planks 90 min
full plank 40 min
That is an improvement from the first time.0 -
Sunday:
Full plank: 1 @ 65 seconds

happy to home and back to my regular life and routine
1. 2 minutes
2. 1 minute 30 seconds
3. 35 seconds.
 I've been thinking about the side plank but still haven't tried doing it.......I guess the first step might be looking for a video or pictures so I can learn how to do it. then I can add it to my "plank plan"0 -
Not a great day for planks. I did a 10 km bike ride, some strenght training and by the end I couldn't do planks. i did do the knee plank for 40 min. But the regular plank only for 25 seconds. Tried a side plank and held only for 10 sec.
Tomorrow is another day.0 -
Today is Tuesday and I got my planks in early.
2 knee planks 1 - 30 sec and 1 - 15 sec
1 regular plank 30 sec.0 -
DAY 5
I totally spaced day 4 - so much going on!
I had a plank heavy yoga class today - no timed plank, but I definitely got my plank on.
So tired - lots of exercise plus heavy house cleaning and I'm exhausted! It is hard to workout hard while trying to lose lbs!0 -
From Monday:
I did Jillian Michael's 30 day shred, level 3 and there are:
2 sets of walking push-ups for a total of 2 minutes
2 sets of plank rows (done with free weights) for a total of 2 minutes
Those, plus some "supermans" & some of the other free weight exercises have made my neck, shoulder and upper back a bit sore & tight today, so I am stretching, walking and take the day off of Planks Back tomorrow:flowerforyou:0 -
:flowerforyou: Kackie, that's an awesome workout
:flowerforyou: jlbay, your yoga class sounds more light strength training
:flowerforyou: walker, you're doing great
Tuesday planks.
1. 2 minutes
2. 1 minute 30 seconds
3. 40 seconds
Kackie, what are walking pushups?0 -
Jumping in, as my trainer started timing me on planks again today!
06/06/2012: 3:34
Quite pleased with this, as the last time I was timed (about six weeks ago) was only in the 1:45 region, so definite progress!0 -
 welcome, tamsinwhitfie, that's an awesome plank
I usually do planks in the earlier part of the day but I forgot and when I remembered I was already tired (my step counter says over 38,000 steps) so I just did one plank for two minute 15 seconds...:bigsmile:0 -
Wednesday:
ONE plank: 80 seconds
Meant to do more, but the day got away from me. Also, still a bit sore from Monday.
Barbie: Walking pushups: .you start in a plank on your hands but with your right hand out to your right side a bit...go down for a push up then "walk" your hands to the left, and right hand to center. Go down for a push up, then walk to the right. (so you are pushing up to the right then to the left..instead of center) Continue for 2 minutes. So it is to the beat of: "Walk..Walk,...Down...Up, Walk...Walk, Down...Up.." Does that make sense? It has taken me a while to progress to making the entire 2 minutes keeping that beat.0 -
Day 6
I planked in yoga, but no timed plank.
Day 7
Planks in Yoga class, plus timed planks: plank 65 sec and side plank 20 ea side.0 -
 Kackie, I tried the walking pushups and did three sets (counting pushups not timed) and did 4 in the first set, 6 in the second, and 7 in the third which is pretty amazing for me since on my last weight training session I could do only 9 pushups in a set without the walking.
:flowerforyou: I've decided to stick with one plank a day for this challenge.....if I'm not careful I tend to over complicate things and before long I have hours of things I've committed to do. so my timed plank today was three minutes :bigsmile:0 -
I have been planking, but have not been logging. I am up to 3 min on the first plank and 1:30 on the next two planks. I am also doing (3) 1 min planks with alternating knee ups (bring knee of 1 leg up to chest and alternate) as well. Started doing burpees and 20 lunges per day (another challenge I entered) and have continued with the suspension training.
Just turned 42 on 6/4 and I am going to be in the best shape of my life by my next birthday... self fulfilling prophecy!!0 -
Thursday: Plank one: 2 minutes!
Plank two: 90 seconds
Friday: Plank one: 2 minutes
Plank two: 80 seconds
Barbie: WTG on the walking push-ups! I understand how easy it is to have too many things going on at once and going in too many different directions! I tend to do that with many things! (Gardening & painting also.) BUT...just to add an idea you might want to try sometimes too: Plank jacks! You start in plank and you jump your legs out and then in. I do that for 2 minutes as part of another exercise challenge. It has taken a while to work up to the 2 minutes and it includes 2 sets along with Plank Twists, which are sort of what ahajduk is doing except you twist your knee to the side once you bring it to your chest. One thing I can say for sure after all of these Plank-type exercises...my mid section is in better shape than it has been in a long time and my clothing sure fits differently!
ahajduk: WTG on the 3 min plank...and the birthday!0 -
 ahajduk, glad to see you again......I've missed you...WTG on all your plank variations.....I believe that if you keep up this pace you'll be in outstanding shape by your next birthday  :flowerforyou: and Happy Birthday
:flowerforyou: Kackie, I'm going to resist adding all your variation suggestions today and file them to use a few weeks from now when I'm revising my weight training routine. I am already doing 100 lunges a day for 100 days, a daily step challenge (my goal is at least 17,000 and hopefully 20,000 steps a day), and weight training three days a week (inspired by "Strong Women Stay Young" and "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and, of course, my three line dance classes a week.
   So my one plank today was 3 minutes :bigsmile:0
