Of course you need a minimum amount of the correct macros for long term health.

In most cases if I can go to work I can workout. Miss a couple days of work a year for sickness

For the OP check with the organization you're testing for. I'm going out on a limb a bit, but pretty sure if you can do 5 situps and you need to get 50 you are also pretty far from the other physical standards. They should be able to point you to a comprehensive training program for your testing. Best of luck.

Yep, if you're pushing an automatic transmission in gear you would be fighting against the automatic's functional version of an engaged clutch and trying to make the internal engine components turn backwards. If someone can actually do it the transmission/engine is most likely toast.

There are theories stating early or late is better, but actually doing it sometime trumps a particular time.

Pushing a car for exercise is fine. IF the steering is not locked and someone is in the driver's seat controlling the steering/braking and PAYING ATTENTION.

I don't think you're going to push a vehicle in gear unless it's sliding on ice. Think your co-worker was BSing or it was actually in neutral.

The US government recommendations on exercise are as follows: https://health.gov/paguidelines/guidelines/adults.aspx Do Aerobic Activity For substantial health benefits, do one of the following: •150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) each week of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity (such as brisk walking or tennis)…

Also, a "Nutritionist" in the US at least means absolutely nothing regarding qualifications. Someone participating in the latest food related MLM scheme can call themselves a nutritionist with no training.

To be honest, most professionals give out some free advice as "practice development". However a trainer would have to be answering general questions (since they haven't seen the person, answering very specific questions or specific recommendations would be a problem). Also the trainer would want to be identified by name so…

Up until about 20-25 years ago personal training wasn't even a thing so you sure don't have to have a trainer to exercise. If I was new and wanted to learn from a trainer, I would want a set-up where I was going 2-3 times a week for a month or two. The trainer would assess my movement patterns and teach me appropriate…

You need to get people to realize there is value to muscle mass/strength long before the need for a ventilator arises.

Very true. We did put people on the moon almost 50 year ago using computing technology that was over 1000x less powerful than the phones every tween runs around with. You'd think something is out there.

If you look at how humans evolved over time, were are actually becoming far, lazy and helpless pretty quickly.

I'd be fine with dying in my mid 90's while on the deadlift platform on in the squat rack at my gym.

Pretty much in line with the sitting is the new smoking stuff.

The sun comes up in the east. Debate :)

I've been at my college graduation weight +/- 10 pounds for 40 years. I had a nutrient deficiency and use the app to track certain nutrients.

According to this, your $100k is off by a factor of 100. Is is a burden for a business, sure, but unless I'm really missing something, not to the extent mentioned. http://www.nutridata.com/feeschedule.asp

Or you could check the menu of the place you're going before you meet your friends and decide what you want.

Probably would be less since the court is smaller, so less running. Agree anything would be a guestimate.

Those foods are "low hanging fruit" for many people. Nothing wrong with those in moderation, but reduction of items low in nutrients and high in calories can be helpful to many for weight loss.

Just making a comment, I didn't post whatever prompted your question. But since you brought it up, is there anything incorrect with my post? I'll repeat it: May not know the difference in the sugar, but body most likely knows the difference in the other ingredients. Not that you can't have a chocolate bar occasionally, but…

May not know the difference in the sugar, but body most likely knows the difference in the other ingredients. Not that you can't have a chocolate bar occasionally, but for overall health the apple is most likely a better choice on a regular basis.

To be honest, if someone really wants your information they either have it or can get it (unless you live as a hermit totally off the grid and have for years) and you can't do anything about it.

Nutrition education is questionable, but as adults there are all sorts of resources on nutritious food, how to cook videos, etc. To me, it goes back to not caring enough to take action.
-
I'd be in general agreement with the thread title. May be a bit more appropriate to say the average person doesn't really care enough about being healthy to take the steps needed for good general health.

Yeah, not a lot of appeal to me either. I bike for recreation/exercise, not practical to commute. If you like it great.
