  • My favourite meal of the day, breakfast. :) :) I tend to have things that have plenty of protein and feel like they can't possibly be diet food:* Bacon and egg sandwiches with lashings of HP sauce * Fruit protein smoothies in fun flavours like Pina Colada, Toffee Apple, Blackberry Crumble, or Black Forest Gateau * All Bran…
  • I've always found that just improving the quality of what I eat helps me transition into dieting. I don't mean cutting stuff out, or "eating clean". Really just trying to make sure that about a third of what I eat is made up of fruit and vegetables. Usually, after a few days of eating those, I already feel better in…
  • Yep, they are absolutely not in any way a full meal. I very occasionally buy them on special offer and use them as a sauce for other things, like chicken and spinach. I'd never, ever eat a Lean Cuisine or similar diet "ping cuisine" meal on it's own. It's a sure fire way to lead me to binging on the contents of the fridge.…
  • I had to put a squishy cushion on my wooden dining chair because it was so uncomfortable. And whenever I sleep in a bed that doesn't have six inches of memory foam mattress topper on it, I feel like I'm lying on pebbles!
  • This. Pretty much word for word! Lost 100 pounds. Then I got cocky because I was still losing or maintaining while not logging. Thought I had cracked it and I would just be a normal size forever with zero effort. Ha! Life, illness, injury, work, holidays, not giving a hoot, another injury and then a fabulous relationship…
  • Those things make me so sad. I weirdly feel MORE hungry after I've eaten one. They only have so few calories because they are tiny portions served in a sea of watery sauce that makes them look bigger than they are. They are baby food masquerading as an adult meal.
  • My simple solution is to lock all the good stuff in box boxes in the pantry. Seriously. :-) Only my family knows the codes to get in them, so they can have their treats. But *I* can't have their treats. I don't miss them. I don't even want them. If they were where I could get them though, I'd not be able to think about…
  • Gawd, yes, eat your exercise calories! Lots of people find that eating a percentage of them works best because apps and gym machines are often overgenerous when working out how much you've burned. The standard amount to eat back among MFP members is 50%, but I'd say up to about 75% is probably fine too. Just play around…

  • Well, first off, you've lost 80 pounds, which is amazing. Even more amazing because you've done it while regularly sabotaging yourself with stress eating. I did the same thing. Then I put lots of weight on again, mostly through stress eating. But in a way, that was good, because losing and gaining taught me a lot about how…
  • Having gone through the online dating thing myself, I know that it can be a fantastic life experience and also the best and fastest way to ruin your self-confidence. I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. You've done something amazing. Losing that much weight takes real character. You've worked so hard, and it's clear from…
  • Some studies (please don't ask me to cite them!) that have shown that varying your daily calorie goal can lead to better weight loss in that it keeps your metabolism on its toes, and it makes the diet easier for you to stick to, AND it makes weight loss more sustainable once you reach goal. You pick a weekly calorie goal,…
  • I think the short answer is when you feel ready to. :-) I was so overweight that I never thought I could run. But I could and I did! I started running when I was about 200lb. But of course I couldn't really run or even jog then, so I began with walking. Then increased the walking pace over months. (I didn't have a sports…
  • Yep, Currently, I have bigger deficits through the week and eat over maintenance at the weekend. It all averages out to a bigger deficit that I was able to cope with when I was eating the same number of calories every day. Because I find this surprisingly easier than trying to eat the same number of calories every day.…
  • Amen to that! And as someone who didn't take care of herself for a year after losing 100 pounds and only put a fraction of it back on I can attest to that. I didn't exercise as regularly as I should because of injuries, but exercise had become a habit and I was still much more active than I had ever been when I was obese.…
  • Are you sure it was actual weight gain? I can gain or lose 4 pounds overnight. :o I can be absolutely perfect in my diet and exercise for a week and gain. I can eat like a pig and move too little and lose. It evens out after about three weeks usually. So I think it would take more than a week to see the effect that any…
  • I don't use the MFP calorie goal as it's WAY too low for me. It says I should be on 1200 calories to lose less than half a pound a week. In reality I lose that much eating about 1500 calories a day. I suppose that if I stuck to MFP's calorie goal and then ate ALL of my exercise calories back I'd lose about the same, but I…
  • This. My inactive calories are just enough to eat healthily but don't leave much room for fun things like whiskey and ice cream. If I want those, then I HAVE to get off my bum and earn them. Doing it this way is a great encouragement to keep active!
  • A few miles north of Newcastle.
  • QFT. 6 months into maintenance and I'm learning how true this is. Being aware that you are at the very top of the slope is actually a fabulous thing. You're stopping, with your eyes open, and considering how to tackle it. Whereas I'm pretty sure lots of us, before losing weight, would have just closed our eyes and lidded…
  • Keep changing mine down in the hope that it'll clear up the weird pockets of squishy fat that I have left on my tummy after losing nearly 90 pounds. My original goal weight was 75 kilos. Reached that in the summer of 2015, and maintained for a couple of months. Decided to go for 70 kilos. Now at 72 kilos and still got…
  • Sales and second hand stores. :-) I'm better dressed than ever, because I'm wearing really good labels that I found in charity shops. and in the last ends of sales where prices are reduced even more. I am lucky enough to volunteer in a charity shop, so that makes it easier, but I pop into as many as I can when I can, to…
  • About 88 pounds down. 10 or so to go, then recomp.
  • If you're in the UK, Asda's work out stuff is really good. Their xxl fit me at a big size 20 and lasted me to about size 16. Cheap, comfy, looks good after hundreds of washes and does that sweat wicking thing too.
  • Unless you are on a really, REALLY tight deficit, why not weigh the milk too? Try measuring out 100ml of milk. Then weigh it. It's going to be so close to 100g that you might as well just weigh it along with your cereal, saving you even more hassle. :)
  • I always eat 50% of them, with one exception: Only one app has told me anything that looks like the truth when it comes to burns - Lifelog paired with a Sony smartband, for walking. I'll eat 100% of those, because I think they may even be on the low side sometimes. Everything else is lies. The worst of them actually being…
  • If I do an hour of cardio, working up a good sweat, the machines will tell me I have burned an about 600 calories. (I'm 5'9" and weigh about 168 pounds at the minute.)
  • We love the Cookie Dough flavour in our house. It really is just like cookie dough. Strawberry Cheesecake and Cookies n Cream are also popular. Lemon Cream Pie is chemical tasting, and the Brownie one is weirdly salty. I really wanted to like it, but will probably never buy it again. The Berry flavour one is not worth the…
  • You know how I go to the gym and take walks and weigh everything and put loads of effort in, making me look like I'm a go-getter? I'll let you in on a secret. I'm really, really lazy. Monumentally so. While I might bother to slap a bit of Astral on my face and neck most days, the thought of moisturising the expanse of my…
  • Don't worry. I didn't take it as a kicking. It's true. I did this to myself. However I'm conscious of all the reasons for it - food was the best tool I had in my arsenal for making me feel better. And now it's not.
  • Yep. This. This is what I'm focussing on. It takes practice to remind myself of this when I look in the mirror. And I worry that even though I might accept my body, it's going to look really weird and perhaps even unattractive to any partner who has never seen the effects of massive weightloss before. Yeah, there is that.…
