  • Absolutely fabulous! Congrats, and I hope you can stay at that weight... It's never easy, and it doesn't get better with age. Trust me, at 78 I know whereof I speak. I manage to touch my goal weight every couple of years, then hover anywhere from five to fifteen lbs. above it. It never stays down without daily effort...…
  • So beautiful! And sooo young! Congrats on the 10th anniversary of your monumental weight loss. What an uplifting story. There are very few people who can match that... One in a milion! You are a true inspiration.
  • Congratulations! What an incredible accomplishment. I'm so happy you started at such a young age... Keep going, Sweetie, never give up, you have come so far already! <3
  • If you think 50 is "over the hill", just wait until you are over 70... Losing weight becomes next to impossible, be glad if you can keep your shape. Gravity and time keep working on your facial features, your back, your balance... not to mention your teeth, hair, joints, especially your knees. Welcome to the "Metal Age":…
  • Try Whole30 since you have a month! It's really an elimination diet but it will revv up you weightloss. whole30.com
  • Hi there, I'm probably the oldest WW participant you'll ever meet. First time: 1980 - they just had changed from five times fish (!) a week to so many servings of protein, veggies, etc., and a serving was defined for every food that was "legal". Keeping a weekly diary with every morsel recorded, I lost 25 lbs. and was a…
  • Thanks, everyone! I really enjoyed reading about that 200 zero-point list and downloaded it. Oh my, fruit cocktail? Corn? BEANS, any?? Those were absolute no-no's the last time I actually lost weight on a diet ("Quick Weight Loss"). Just one egg has 70 cal., people!! I lost all respect for WW when I read the list.…
  • Finally someone mentions my favorites! I love Jones NY, somehow I always wind up with that brand. But I always had hips that are smaller than my bust size (14 on top, 12 for the bottom, or both a size smaller) so I don't think that's appropriate in this case... Now with the vanity sizing even size 10 pants are too big…
  • I'm with you!! All my MFP friends have an open diary, and many are in your age group (my daughter was born in 1983). Go ahead and send a friend request.
  • Welcome! You came to the right place. We are all struggling to reach our goal. I went from 170 to 149 lbs (goal is 145), but then it got tougher, and now I'm floundering around 150 - 155 and back. It's the "and back" that gives me problems. :s Exercise is very beneficial, but the weight loss depends a lot more on what and…
  • Congrats to a great decision! I've got to tell you about my friend who had lap band (weight loss) surgery four weeks ago. She had lost 20 lbs. before surgery, another 22 lbs. since then. About 50 more to go.....The dietary restrictions are unbelievable. She has to eat 19 g protein a day, absolutely no starches, no veggies…
  • Thank you, pbprincess, we are in the same boat! I recently went down to 147 (very briefly) and didn't like it that much myself, especially since I just can't maintain it. It cost too much effort... Now cruising around 153/54, looking ok, still ever vigilant...
  • Normlnv, actually, your point is well taken. I lost quite a bit of weight with a high protein/low carb, low fat diet. I ate no highly processed food (you know, the stuff that comes in a colorful box or wrapper with a list of your ingredients printed in 1-point letters to fit it all on the label). Except, to get the two…
  • Bashore98, congratulations on taking on a big task with enthusiasm. I think arditarose is right, you can eat a lot more and still lose. 1300 cal is not a whole lot of food, and your body will fight back after the "honeymoon" period. There are a few guys on MFP who can tell you more: try finding "IHAD" on MFP (he lost 145…
  • That's wonderful! I love your pictures, you look so positive and happy. It's great that you did it at this stage in your life - not 70 or 100 lbs. and/or 20 years later. I'm sure you get a lot of compliments - keep up the good work!

  • MFP will put your foods in "favorites" once you start listing them in your diary.... If you put something under "breakfast", but you wanted it under "snacks", just click directly on that entry; it will come up in a panel to the right with three fields. The lowest one lists your choices of meals. Hope this helps, and good…
  • Amen to all the good advice! By all means, be honest with yourself. Nobody is calling you on the mat and punching you; it's between you and MFP. --- --- Seems to me, your body is telling you that you deprived yourself a little too much. You were probably very hungry... forgive yourself, allow yourself a little more food in…
  • "I darnt step on my scales since I went to see my Dr, and was told I weigh 2 stone more than my home scales said. I cried like a baby instead at the Dr's Janette, I'm so sorry that happened to you, it can be so discouraging. I guess it's time for a new scale ; the digital ones are better to prevent cheating. I knew how to…
  • Fascinating how some symptoms are similar and others are totally different from one person to another. For me it was sluggishness, depression, PMS (well, before menopause), and the unending desire - no, need - to overeat. Every diet worked for me (usually they cut out the bread and pasta first) but it took an iron will…
  • Wish I could just give you a "like" - best of luck! Remember, it takes some time to plan, shop, prepare - mindless grazing is certainly faster but doesn't give the desired results. I'm sure you can do it!
  • You look fabulous... What an achievement. Love the side-by-side pictures, thanks, SteveMFP123!
  • First of all, a happy New Year and all the best for you! That is so brave. I have not had to go through it but have a friend who did. I'm rooting for you! I feel it should be the doctor's responsibility to guide you through this, especially the first months. He or she should give you specific instructions as to how much…
  • Congratulations! That's really great - and fast.... Nine kg - that's 20 pounds for my American friends - is a lot for eight weeks! Let your body adjust and keep doing what you are doing. "Nature can not be rushed, yet everything is being accomplished" - Lao Tsu
  • Hi Marie and Lin, enjoying your comments! I'm on the wrong side of 70, too, it's no longer funny to say "Im in my extremely late forties"... Married for 45 years now. Painfree in spite of arthritis in hands, knees and hips; we are both practicing and teaching tai chi for two hours at least five times a week, plus regular…
  • This is the best time of year to get started! Congratulations. You will feel so fabulous o:) if you can stear yourself away from the dessert table and take little portions of lean protein (turkey, shrimp, cold cuts) and the ubiquitous celery stalks, again and again. That's what I did yesterday; in the end I sneaked a fresh…
  • I'm not a doctor or medical professional, but.... I went through several depressions in my life. Until I was diagnosed with wheat sensitivity. Today it's known as gluten sensitivity, and it did a number on my metabolism, mood, and of course, weight. The simple (but not easy) remedy: Eat gluten free food. Lots of veggies,…
  • I'm impressed! What a terrific journey under difficult circumstances. Keep us posted - I love to read stories of triumph over adversity!
  • Hello, Goddess, well done and congrats! You sure look great. Thanks for sharing, you are an inspiration. :D
  • At first I didn't even see the monkey in your "after" picture, you look so radiant! Congratulations, you earned it. What is your secret?
  • Such an inspiration! Coincidentally, I lost 51 pounds while working on my Black Belt in Karate, that was 20 years ago... that workout really helps. Keep up the good work, you are awesome.
