• I've been a reader of MFP boards for years but rarely post. I have to say that I just don't understand this argument that sugar "addiction" is in any way remotely the same as drug and alcohol addiction. Both of my parents struggled with addictions (alcohol and heroine), with my mother dying of hers at the age of 38. When I…
• I'm going to follow up with what @lmgoff232 said (not disputing others' comments here, of course). I also have a form of colitis (not ulcerative but lymphocytic), but with that, I do suffer from severe constipation at times. One of the last times I had a "flare up," my gastroenterologist took an x-ray which revealed a…
• Wishing you all the best! You’ve got this!

• Typically you would set your activity level to sedentary and then add exercise, unless you have a physically demanding job. This is likely throwing off your calorie output. Perhaps MFP had fixed its calculations, but in the past I would always get a double read on activity.
• What time does the race start? Here in Philly our marathons always begin early in the morning, so it’s much cooler. Perhaps if that’s the case for you, it will not have reached high temp for the day?

• You didn’t specify if you plan to run or walk on the treadmill but if you’re planning on running, I recommend building up a base first to avoid injury. Sixty minutes is a pretty long time if you haven’t been doing that length of exercise on your feet already. So basically, I second the good advice given. Personally, I…
• I was being facetious. My point was that it seems as though Peloton gets an overwhelming amount of unwarranted criticism compared to other fitness companies.

• With all due respect, I believe this is an oversimplication of addiction. My father and mother are/were both alcoholics and addicted to drugs. I use the past tense in the case of my mother because she committed suicide when I was nineteen—her overcoming addiction wasn’t as simple “as avoiding certain places or people.”…
• I don't know who those people are... I happened to have an issue with the audio on my screen after 2.5 years. Peloton replaced it at no cost. I was well out of the warranty period. After five years my bike was still in pristine condition--I am an avid spinner and use the bike almost every day. To me, that is a decent piece…
• Just FYI, it doesn’t cost anywhere near $4000, not even for the upgraded model. While you may value an outdoor bike (and many spend upwards of $4000 on cycling gear), some prefer indoor spinning coupled with other outdoor sports. I have no desire to ride a road bike for my own personal reasons. It’s all about what each…
• @laureegav3 i do! I’ve had mine since 2016. I use the bike or the app everyday for my private gym purposes.

• It can be difficult to lose weight while marathon training because it’s hard to eat in a deficit while increasing mileage. Are you weighing your food?

• No, but I can see why you think that. It does look like an alcohol belly. Believe it or not, I’ve never taken one sip of alcohol my entire life.
No, that wasn’t at all what I meant. All I meant was that alcohol has sneaky calories and many have a tendency to over pour a glass of wine is all. When I first started…
•
@kelliihere is there any chance your alcohol consumption has increased over the past year with covid-related quarantining? I ask because I know mine did initially before I made a point to cut back.
• @jillroy81 Under Challenges, you'll see there's a monthly group called Monthly Running Challenge (see poster's mention above). The link for the new month is usually posted toward the end of the current month, so it is VERY active group. I always follow it, but haven't posted in awhile because I always felt so guilty…
• Thanks for the recipes. Fortunately I love to cook so I’ll try these suggestions.
• Thank you! I didn’t even know something like that would exist. I happened to buy flaxseed powder the other day and noticed that could be used. I appreciate the recommendation.
• Thank you, everyone, for your replies. I apologize for not responding sooner. My three-year-old came down with a fever yesterday and that has occupied my time. I have been reading up on vegan resources and making that transition. As a vegetarian I do consume many of those products now; I just wasnt thrilled to learn that I…
• Agreed! @HerNameIsMischief Regarding the bald thing... Some women find bald men attractive. I’m one of those women. I met my husband when he was in his mid 40s and already bald. I find him adorable and could not picture him with hair. He’s not built like the Rock—he was chubbalicious when I met him and still is. I’m a…
• I’m also signed up for the Coastal Delaware marathon! I deferred from last year as well. Where are you located?
• It's likely due to her genetics more than the cocoa butter. I also did not get any stretch marks or have any loose skin with my pregnancies--and neither did my mom with four babies. With my first child (I was in my 20s), I used cocoa butter and was convinced that was what had done the trick. With my second child (born when…
• I’m in the Philly area and will virtually train with you if you’d like. All of my races were moved to a virtual platform.
• My friend had a hysterectomy several years ago and gained 30 pounds in a very short amount of time... I’m talking within 3 weeks or so if her surgery. It was clearly not due to overconsumption of calories, so yes, complications can arise from the surgery. To my recollection, I believe that in the end she was retaining…
• It’s not about YOU. It’s about the common good.
• I understand. I was diagnosed with BDD several years ago but my psychologist says that it probably started when I was about 7 years old. I have early memories of pinching my skin folds in my arm pit and not “liking it” and not wanting it there. From that point forward, I have never liked skin touching itself—it’s weird—I…
• My thoughts exactly. Yet, the federal government remains stagnant. It is disturbing the degree to which the human instinct for survival can be so suppressed.
• I was replying to the statement made in reference to the U.S.
• Hundreds of thousands of people do not die every year from the flu.
