Just checking in to add my encouragement to donate if you can. I donated regularly from 18 to my mid sixties, and wish I could continue. Donations really do save lives.

Oh I could eat (salted) butter from a tub if I let myself :D I have celiac disease and gluten free bread disintegrates when it gets wet so I let it get cool and then butter it so it doesn't melt. I lost 50 pounds in my mid sixties and have maintained the loss since then. When I was overweight (pushing obese) my labs were…

I'm in the San Francisco bay area. My daughter just sent me a picture of the Princess Cruise ship still docked in the bay. She took the picture from my grandson's preschool :(

OMG, so if blood work doesn't show organ damage RIGHT NOW he's perfectly fine with long term damage?? I really hope no one is desperate enough to look at this guy and think "hmmm, fast weight loss, no giving up alchohol and no apparent damage "

But...the beer the monks used had a different profile than modern beer and had at least a minimum amount of nutrition, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong I read an article a couple of weeks ago. Can you imagine what his kidneys and liver would be like after 40 days of straight alcohol?? Plus loss of muscle due to extreme…

I have a dry cough right now due to sinus drip from allergies. I've been loading up on cough drops before going out in public trying not to add to people's anxiety over getting infected in public places. I religiously cough into my elbow but it could easily be triggering for others. I should add we're in farm country and…

After seeing the drama over hand sanitizer I started going through the house collecting all the little bottles I've bought and forgot about over the years, and let me tell you I could make a fortune on Ebay if I wasn't hoarding them for myself :D

Absolutely! Thanks @lillymoo01 for such a well-thought-out, rational approach.

Actually they admitted they cook the Impossible Whopper on the same grill as the meat patties and they may be (would almost certainly be) contaminated by particles of meat coating the shared surface. If the burger chain really is targeting an untapped consumer segment who are vegetarian/ vegan their process is deeply…

I've done jazzercise in the past and loved it enough to go 6 days a week! I think the vibe depends a lot on the instructor though, when our instructor moved away I just couldn't connect the same way with his replacement and eventually stopped going.

I met my husband in 1963 too! Mr. McCue's 7th grade spanish class 😊 We reconnected in high school and have been married 49 years 😍

Are you counting calories as well? A little under a pound a week is a good rate of loss, but if you want to lose faster you need to create a bigger deficit by eating fewer calories and/or increasing activity. The food you eat and the eating schedule you choose don't have any impact on weight loss unless they help you…

If you are using MFP and have your general activity level set correctly, you should eat back some portion of exercise calories. MFP calculates calories based on NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). This is the number of calories you burn just going about your daily routine, and the number of calories MFP gives you…

Oh snap! You're probably on the right track :D I believe I misinterpreted the OP.

You need to discuss this with a physician or a therapist. You appear to have addiction issues if you are using it as a means to escape whatever issues are causing you to need it in the first place. If you have been taking it excessively for any length of time you will need to wean off it's stopping abruptly can have…

I eat one every morning :) They're gluten free, meet a quarter of my protein requirements and half my fiber. Since protein and fiber satiate me, they're the perfect combo. My go-to flavors are the cookies type. I love the honey waffle but it oozes honey and gets pretty sticky on my fingers :)

Keep in mind you will have the opportunity to reassess your goals and take stock of how you look and feel at every step along the way. You won't suddenly wake up one morning with dead eyes, a giant head and out of proportion arms :) Take it a pound at a time, and realize that you are in control of your journey, and you can…

The last post on this thread was from 2011. You may have to google to find the current equivalent. Best of luck, it looks like fun :)

I actually like watching people do "intimidating" exercises at the gym. I try not to be obvious about it, but it's fascinating to watch people lifting huge stacks of weights or streaking along on the treadmill at a sprint pace that would spit me off the back on the third step. At least at my gym, most people aren't into…

That was my first thought too! Since only one person and cat could go through security how did they exchange cats again??

Just to add another voice of encouragement :) I was 65/66 when I lost 50 pounds, and I've kept the weight off for a year and a half. My method was to aim for a slower rate of loss, making sure to track all my food using a food scale. I found the weight came off pretty much the same way it had when I was younger as long as…

Go to Grass Valley CA. Wait for dark, get on one of the less-traveled roads out of town. Give it 5 or 10 minutes. Be prepared to swerve out of the way of one or more deer bounding in front of your car with inches to spare. :)

Yay! Good luck!

I'm extremely apple shaped (also in my late 60's and sedentary during most of my weight loss), but I managed to lose 50 pounds a couple of years ago by maintaining a calorie deficit. The shape of one's body may dictate where weight comes off first, but the only way to lose weight with any type of body is to eat fewer…

This is my experience as well. During the season I do 4 - 5 hour rides at least once a week. My glutes, quads and calves are well-defined but dont get any bigger no matter how much stronger I get. I think after a certain point, unless you are doing weight training to build muscle, your leg muscles will look more defined…

I love that show! I always feel sorry for the competitors who end up going first with a new obstacle because once someone finally figures it out everyone following has the benefit of seeing how to conquer it :D I like the thumbnail biographies too, fascinating the backgrounds people come from and how they train!

I think it's time to make an appointment with an IRL therapist. Potentially you may have an eating disorder (that would be up to the therapist to determine), or you may have other issues that are expressed by out-of-control eating and self-destructive habits (smoking). You say the problem is getting worse, and I urge you…

How are you determining your calories? Do you weigh solid food and measure liquids? Chances are that you are eating more than you think - it seems very unlikely that a 6-foot-1 very active male would gain weight on anything over 1600 calories. I would look at the logging accuracy first. edited to complete the comment eta:…
