I munch on raw carrots. Your mouth feels like it's getting loads of food because there's a lot of chewing : )

Nice analogy, I like it : ) I started lifting with a BMI of 40 and am 6 weeks in, and finding it perfectly possible to work with good form. I'm taking it slowly, watching lots of videos about form and asking the PTs for advice occasionally, and it's all good so far. Plus I feel absolutely EPIC : ) It really is worth…

I'm on 1200 a day, and I'm weighing my food. I'm 5'8'' and 235lbs. I'm eating plenty of protein and all sorts of vegetables, taking vitamin and mineral supplements just in case, and lifting to maintain muscle (though without any real expectation of progress on the lifting front!). It might seem like an unhealthy approach…

I know it's not what you asked but I've found a keto diet great for regulating my glucose.

You'll lose it slower after a while because your deficit will decrease as you lose weight, unless you up your exercise accordingly. Eventually you would hit a point where you would maintain.

If I have to stay keto forever, it doesn't bother me that much - I'm well used to it now! It's a small price to pay to keep it under control. I upped my reps today and did 12.5 x 5, 7, 7, 6 and 5. I'll keep pushing that and see how it goes. My form is improving anyway, and my stability, so that's good.

Good plan, I'll give that a go today.

I've been doing keto for 10 months now, it has helped a little with the diabetes but it's the weight loss the helps my liver. I'm not really looking for advice on that, I know what works for me.

I'm eating 1200, for a deficit of 800-1000. I'm diabetic and my liver is struggling to function so losing weight is absolutely my first priority at the moment, hence the low calories. I'm not really trying to gain strength at the moment, so much as maintain muscle while I lose fat, but I wondered about the total lack of…

I'm 39 and have been lifing for 2.5 weeks now : ) Feel free to add me. I'm working on losing 8 stone but I'd lift for fun anyway, I love it.

Thank you all for this thread, it was precisely what I needed this morning

Well done you! It's a tough step. I did it yesterday and it was quite intimidating walking in. They have one token bodybuilder, they actually pointed him out to me as a sort of local landmark - he seemed used to that. The rest are all normal humans; considerably thinner than me, but recognisably the same species.

Is it very wrong that my thought was 'those grouse look like Cadburys creme eggs?'

I was diagnosed with NASH years ago and have had terrible liver function ever since. I ate keto and counted calories for a few months and lost 3 stone, and my liver function was perfect. I ate carbs for a while, put 2 stone back on and my liver became worse than it had ever been. Now I'm back on keto and counting calories…

I'm diabetic so I stick to less than 20g of carb. After that, it's calories all the way. If I wasn't diabetic, I don't think I'd bother with macros.

5'8'' and I've lost 28lbs so far; another 27 to go! My username is a little optimistic :D Please friend me.

In the dining room, landing with a thud on the floor because I'm sprawled on the couch with my feet up. DH would move into next door's sitting room. DS would fall from the first floor and DD would be in her wardrobe, presumably searching for Narnia.
