Very cool discovery! Enjoy the journey.

Looking fantastic!! I, too, amped up fitness in my 50’s!

I'm not certain about the "pause," but I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised one day when I reached in my back pocket and realized the results of squats! My mantra...squat a lot!

Here's an example of what we call 1KR. The goal is 1,000 reps in 40 minutes. You can make up your own from various moves you are familiar with. Always a great workout!!

I love group fitness of all types. Zumba, P90X, Insanity, Bootcamp, Pilates, Cize, etc. The ones with cardio and strength combined are my favorites.

Awesome accomplishment!!!

I've been a cube dweller for 30+ years. I amped up my nutrition/fitness 3 years ago. Amping up the working out has definitely had an impact on the booty. I discovered this when I reached into the back pocket of my blue jeans. Upon first discovery I had to do a second take. My mantra...SQUAT A LOT! It takes months and…

Find what works for you. I get bored easily, so I like doing a variety of things and have running as backup if I don't have anything else to do that day.[/quote] I do a variety of workouts. Running is not my forte but I do have a good pair (gait analysis approved) that I use on vacation and when running seems the most…

I like this suggestion. I like to think of the New Year as a continuation of the journey.

Know a girl who did the Imodium trick for a Tough Mudder.

Personally, I agree Pilates and Yoga are not big calorie burners. HOWEVER, the strength/muscle isolation has huge benefits. I am a firm believer in cardio, weight or body weight and yoga/Pilates. Room for all three in overall fitness.

Slaying dragons and conquering fears!

I did it without and I think I will be just fine!! 5:30am is early but my day is underway!!
-
Thank you everyone! I'm trying it without the bike shorts.
-
Thank you!!
-
Are cycling shorts available at Dunhams or MC Sporting Goods? Or do I need to find a specialty shop?

I wasn't working out during this miserable time in my life. But I can tell you I was never very far from a restroom at least two days every month. It was a challenge since the tender age of 12. Fibroids earned me a hysterectomy. U-free and proud to be!

My workout studio does a Pre-Super Bowl workout. It has a tremendous response! 45 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weights. Fun stuff!!
-
I feel better when I work out regularly. I don't beat myself up on less than par weeks.

I've actually been been to the running store twice and for gait analysis and have two pairs of good running shoes. Necessity for my 53 year old feet/body.

When I sprained my ankle the athletic trainer at work suggested "writing" the alphabet with my toes. This probably isn't appropriate for your foot. What I'm suggesting is that perhaps a visit to an athletic trainer might suggest a therapeutic exercise to get you back to your routine.

Thank you everyone for the insight!! I'm still contemplating. I'd like to improve my 5k so this may be the next step in getting there.
-
Good advice!!! Keep it coming.

Even when your strength and endurance are at their peak, the first mile is tough. When your breathing becomes regulated, the run becomes easier (less lung burning). Gait analysis and good shoes are a MUST.

This is a great question!! I know very little about weight lifting but it might be a good addition to my normal nightly routine at the workout studio. I have the luxury of a nice weight room at work that I could possibly incorporate. Any non sweaty weight workouts out there???

I would have never ever believed simply signing up for a 5k is the best motivation. That and tell a few likeminded people and you will be amazed! You can do this! Good luck and relish the moment!

I ran my first 5k at age 53 last fall. I began running short distances and gradually increased distance/time. So I didn't follow c25k. I attribute completing my first and subsequent 5Ks to a variety of regular strength and cardio workouts (in addition to running) the key. Overall fitness helped me get there more quickly…
