Being more mindful of my diet (not calories) has totally worked, I lost weight!!! 4 lbs since (November 1st!!), and I woke up not feeling bloated - I'm starting to think that maybe my issue has been gluten all along. This week marks the beginning of the end of my dairy consumption (I have a ball of mozzarella in the fridge…

Ok so update- I had plans to ride Saturday, but Lost my cat Friday afternoon.... (we found her) Subsequently, I got a day off of riding which was meh (supposed to do hill repeats with one of my more mellow riding groups.) I'm kinda feeling neither here nor there about it.... just happy to be reunited with my kitty. Anyhow…

Ride Update - Bailed on the climb today... my legs are sore from yesterday. It was kind of a pissing contest type ride haha I can't help myself... But now I'm just hungry. I caved and ate chocolate; However, I would definitely not categorize it as a binge. So I'm learning something. Climbs = Not hungry; Z2 = Not hungry…

Post Ride Notes from Slow hill climb (11/03) - I feel like because I forced myself to eat some protein and carbs and fAT (yum!) immediately afterwards I was able to prevent the binge! (yess) - I hada gyro salad for dinner and a GF brownie (with about 2 liters of water and an acidophilus) This AM i weighed 157.4 (heavier…

What's does your ketogenic diet look like. I'm just unfamiliar with it... so I'd love to learn more.

Agreed.... Do you ever just wish we lived in Kansas? hahah

I was so bored I listened to talk radio :D

After only a single Z2 ride i was left feeling hungry and bored and not exhausted (which I like). So IDK. I'm thinking i am going to leave Z2 stuff to the rollers. 'Winter is coming' and my garage is calling. And I honestly think the same thing happened to me. Being in a hyper competitive environment, I'm always like…

D'oh I can't believe your post got lost in the shuffle!! This is great (love the brutally honest article). Which was my sneaking suspicion all along. I have a feeling I am going to be EXTREMELY grumpy this winter. Do you have a favorite pre-ride food that's not a banana (but is about the same amount of calories / carbs)?…

So Ride today... Well it is stupid pretty outside, so I ended up heading to the mountains. I was supposed to do a 30 minute z1 ride (i.e. take your bike for a walk pace), but I slowly started climbing. Tried to keep my movements slow and controlled, but my HR was all over the place. Needless to say, after about ~6.2 miles…

Yeah I actually ski tour quite a bit... but maybe ill transition into cross country, that would be nice. So rowing, abs, XC skiing. I think I am going to be set up for success. Now to just figure out how to stop eating so much lol.

Yeah... It's like the last 'major' purchase I need to make... I keep putting it off because I'm like: 'oh the HR monitor will guide the way...' WRONG (there is nothing wrong with HR training but I think I need a meter & a monitor to fine tune my data.

Lot's of great stuff. So to answer your questions... Goals: 1. Podium 2. Podium 3. Podium 4. Transition from Cat 4 to Cat 3 9 (based on points and experiences - not podiums specifically) I have several riding groups I participate with regularly and I am on a Team (intentionally not including the name). As a member of our…

Update... I end up soooooooo hungry and I bindged. Ugh hopefully tomorrow is better.

First z2 workout complete...! I did ok, managed to stay in zone 2 for 53% of my ride (total time 1:20.??/19.3 miles/ 905ft (which is flat for Boulder)). One of the articles recommended adding in light HR based sprints, so I did 5X 10 second sprints and waited for my HR to go back to Zone 2 in between each sprint. I did…

I think this is my issue: http://www.bicycling.com/training/fitness/dead-zone-syndrome-0 http://www.active.com/running/articles/training-with-the-zone-3-syndrome

Unfortunately racing in CO teaches you to embrace your inner climber.... even if you aren't one, LOL. About to go off topic here .. Just a heads up - After reflecting on our conversation I found a few articles that you may be interested in... I know personally I could never do brick workouts with my tri friends, and vice…

I have never heard about the rowing-cycling correlation.... Ironically, I love the rowing machine so this could be a REALLY good cross-training match. Thank you for the suggestion!!
-
That's a good idea. I think I need to shift my focus from actively training to maintaining, and focus on rest and cut calories just a bit... R&R sounds good right now. Have you tried Z2 training? If so, any thoughts, recommendations or suggestions?

I did some research today and there definitely seems to be quite a few people in the low and slow camp. Just to tie it all together.... I think I am going to stick with giving Z2 a training a go.
-
Embarrassingly enough ... no. But I need to start. Currently I do some light ab work, yoga and hiking. I'll ski tour come winter and I need to actually get on a more formal cross training program. I'm thinking of doing some weight training to help with my sprinting. I am going to give track racing a go in the fall so I…

I like the point you've made.. especially because I often forget how easy it is for me to make gains in the muscle department (due to body comp/ build and genetics). I think I've held on to the old adage about atrophy because when I used to lift it was more of a concern. Now because my focus has shifted lose of endurance…

That's a great idea about using laps... only time I've really used splits or laps has been during crit training or repeat hill climbs but that's a really interesting way to look at things ... different segments and previewed level of effort. Thank you for the compliments on the bikes... and yes I have dabbled in cross…

Ah good old Z2... I'll give it a go. With winter approaching and long boring spin sessions in my garage approaching maybe I'll be better able to ride at a sustainable pace without the pressure of a group ride and/or sufferfest. Just to give you an idea of how much I detest 'not hammering' I'll attach some photos. The first…

These are all such valuable and inspiring comments... And for the first time in a long time I don't feel alone. Thank you for your support :)

yes and no... I'm a relatively private person in real life so my friends and family only tend to see the outcome, while I hide the struggle. Probably not the most healthy way to deal with my problems ...

I love all of these suggestions !!! I think I am in need of a change in perspective. Just thought of something... Did any of you make any other major changes while losing weight? Like a haircut or a style change ? Some days I feel like I'm having an identity crisis lol

Not often, I usually eat an apple a day or have it in my smoothies ... It just doesn't taste the same as sugar in candy.

This is what I wrote above: "When I stopped eating [refined] sugar, I cut out all processed foods, I cut out all sweets and chocolate, I stopped adding sugar to my coffee (I eventually cut out caffeine too), I cut out alcohol, I cut out all yeast (even nutritional yeast), and I cut out all refined or processed…
