  • We went up to the hospital and got a print out of his results. He tested negative for Lymes (his doctor was treating him because its common in our area if you spend a lot of time outdoors and have aches turns out the achiness was just the flu), His vitamin D levels were about a quarter of what they should have been, and…
  • Exactly my thoughts. It would make sense if it was low fat OR low carbs but she distinctly told me low fat AND low carb. Also we eat a very healthy diet with very little processed foods, its balanced so I am unsure why she would recommend the diet change to begin with.
  • Also partially my husband's fault for not asking but typically a doctor lets you know what is wrong if they recommend a diet change.
  • She told him his cholesterol was good, he had a vitamin D deficiency, lymes disease, and there was another abnormality in his blood work that would improve by switching to a low fat low carb diet. She said schedule an appointment for 6 months so she can order him blood work again then. And he doesn't ask questions so he…
  • Unfortunately my husband did not question why they recommended that specific diet. All he knows is he has lymes disease, a vitamin D deficiency, and another condition that will improve if he switches to a low carb low fat diet. I put a call into his doctors office the doctor confirmed that she told him to switch to a low…
  • Thank you I will have him contact his doctor to find out exactly what medical condition she is recommending the diet change for and contact a dietician.
  • I thought the vitamin D deficiency would worsen if he avoided fat as well which is why I am so reluctant to change the foods that we eat. We eat clean, he eats a little more processed foods than the rest of our family but not much. Maybe I will consult with a nutritionist or urge him to get a second opinion.
  • Thank you, this is the type of answer I was hoping to hear. I just wanted to get peoples opinions on why they chose organic or why they ultimately switch back to non-organic.
  • If anyone has any noticeable health benefits that they can speak of related to switching to eating all organic foods or foods that are GMO free. Please share. I will not debate GMO vs. Non-GMOs or Organic vs. Non-Organic with anyone. Everyone has their opinion there are not enough studies to support either side. All I'm…
  • Non-GMO/Organic. I look for food labeled Non-GMO, I try to shop in the organic section because there is a lot more food labeled non-GMO. Basically I avoid foods that contain added hormones, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • The study I researched was not on Wikipedia although it may be referring to the some study. I don't consider Wikipedia to be a valid source of information. Although I will say the study was called "controversial" and there is about a 50 50 view on whether the study is valid similar to most studies that involve any data on…
  • Thank you for the suggestions, we have recently made the switch to grass fed/hormone free meats; however, we have not looked for raw unpasteurized dairy yet. We want to look into it more due to our children's pediatrician not recommending unpasteurized dairy.
  • There was a study conducted by Gilles-Eric Seralini of the University of Caen, it was the first long term study that I could find on the effects of GMOs. If you know of any long term studies related to GMO's (not just organic) please list them. I could only find short term studies that prove that GMO's have no negative…
  • My thoughts exactly, I don't like the idea of eating food that is "drenched in round up" or "meat being strayed with ammonia". We also have the problem of being limited to where we can buy organic foods aside from our local farms. But while our local farms are selling produce we typically have already grown the same foods.…
  • Thank you I have actually looked at both. We actually look more for the Non-GMO labels than we look for organic, but I believe most if not all foods at Whole Foods Market is organic. We made a switch to organic non-gmo due to a study that resulted in increased kidney damage, inflammation, digestion issues, and cancer rates…
  • So as far as you could tell; no improvement in digestion, decreases in seasonal allergies, becoming sick less often, etc..?
  • Exactly I don't count hiking and biking and walking the dog toward my cardio as calories that I can eat back because its part of my daily activities. Where I'm from (in a mountainous region) if I'm going for a walk I'm hiking, if I'm hiking I'm typically carrying at least one of my 30lb. toddlers if not both up and down…
  • Yes I agree I was probably eating more than I thought. I didn't realize it was inaccurate unless the food was weighed.
  • Thank you for that advice I will start using the scale for everything.
  • Also I just started the 1,400 calorie diet, watching macros, and heavy lifting Monday. So I do not know whether I will lose any inches yet (not too concerned about the number on the scale). I was simply looking for any recommendations on improving the plan or whether I should go with my friend suggestions and slave over…
  • I use a food scale for meats so I know the correct ounces, everything else I'm using tsp. tbsp. and cups. Would you recommend using a food scale for everything I eat?
  • Thank you for the recommendation I believe the workout I started doing every morning would be considered quasi-cardio. Would it be considered a quasi-cardio workout if I do compound moves such as squats hold 40lbs with a knee lift. I usually do 1 minute of each compound exercise followed by a 15 sec. rest to give me enough…
  • Yes, I have been lifting heavy for about a year on a low calorie diet around 1,200 calories while doing cardio and I have maintained the same weight but lost a few inches early on when I started lifting. Everyone keeps recommending I do more cardio and drop my calories but as someone that loves to lift that is not an…
  • Thank you for your post that was very informative. I am still hesitant on increasing calories so drastically though as i have been eating a 1,200 calorie diet for a little over a year now. Unfortunately in my experience the eat less and move more hasn't done much except keep me at a constant weight. Im a busy body and…
