I want to improve my 10k time for my race next March/April. :) My mini goal is to beat my boyfriend's time of... either 54 or 55 minutes. I’m dying to see his face if I get a better time than him in the Niigata City 10k race next October, bwahaha.

Wishing you luck! I definitely know that hard road with the chips and ice cream all too well. I think there may have been a bit too much chocolate on mine too... ;) Anyway, never such thing as too many friends!

I couldn't run 100 meters in March this year. Now I can run 10km in an hour, maybe less now. I used couch to 5k, but I didn't take it all the way to the end. Once I was able to run a solid 20 minutes without waking, I swapped to using the zombies, run! app (being chased by zombies did wonders for my motivation... and…

I've started ignoring my weight (but still watching cals, of course). I only weigh myself once per week/two weeks. Now I'm focused solely on running. Exercise goals are great, because there are way fewer variables than with weight loss. Injuries aside, as long as you work hard and rest appropriately, you should almost…

Oh man, I literally just bought new shoes today. When the sales lady and I looked at the soles of my old shoes, they were completely wrecked. Went for a run in my new shoes just now with hardly a twang from my foot. Wish I'd learned that lesson sooner!

Good luck on your half. :) Enjoy it! I only started running this year, so I've only managed a 10k so far. I'm still only an 8 mile minute girl, but I seem to be getting faster without trying?? There's a half marathon coming up in the spring near where I live that I'd love to train for, but I've been sidelined recently due…

More talking, less eating. ;) Honestly, I'm happy to overeat on the weekends sometimes if it means being with my friends. If I'm going to make this a lifestyle change and not a diet, I can't avoid social gatherings for the rest of my life. I don't want food to dictate my life in ANY kind of way. People without weight…

"I didn't realise you were such a health and weight loss expert."

Agreed, I see no physical problems here. You're a beautiful human. Given the very nature of the way body dysmorphia works, you just won't be able to fix it in the order of physical stuff -> mental stuff. You could have whatever you consider the absolute ideal body and chances are you'd still not see it... so keep working…

There is definitely a huge difference there! And just feel proud that you're heading in the right direction, not matter how fast/slow. Anything is better than backwards!

^^This, so much. I've seen slim people who have more visible cellulite than I had at my heaviest weight. As for your thighs getting bigger, well... if you're a long distance runner it seems pretty normal that you'd have bigger, stronger legs. It's easy to get swept away with the vanity side of weight loss, but in the end…

Maybe consider changing your doctor, if it's at all a possibility. You definitely don't need anyone undoing all the good work you did fighting off your eating disorder, just because they could use some educating in certain areas. Also, if you see him again, consider telling him that in his prime body-building days, Arnold…

I just want to add, some people do a low carb diet because they like low carb. If you're not enjoying it, then quit!! Find a way of eating that doesn't stress you, you're bound to stick to it for longer. As long as you're in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight, low carb, low fat, whatever (even low protein, though I…

Sometimes we have slip-ups on the road to success. But when you first put on the weight, you didn't gain it all in a day, right? This time will be the same. Depending on what you eat, you might gain several pounds in water-weight, but that's all. And that'll fall off again in about a week, give or take a little.
-
Hey! I hope you stick around and continue to share your journey with us. You seem like a really lovely person, and I hope you find success! It's great that you're seeing your doctor about it. Have you been to see any professionals about the emotional side of your over-eating too? Sometimes the problem is as much emotional…

That depends on the size of your salads. It can add up. 100 grams (or 3.5oz ) sounds big, but you'd be surprised how small it is. And if you have 100g of tomatoes, that's already about 20 calories, lettuce, while low in calories, isn't calorie free. Carrots have a surprising number of calories too. I'd say weigh all the…

I didn't really have a moment. I left home, started cooking for myself, started naturally losing weight and I guess I just kept going.

From what I understand (if I'm wrong, any of the more knowledgeable members feel free to school me ;) ) and this is put really simple, but while you're in a caloric deficit, your body is basically eating itself alive. If you're not getting enough protein from your food sources, your body is going to eat your muscles to…

Well, I mean, if you're ONLY eating fruit, then you're going to be short on protein and fats, and some forms of micro nutrients... so in a sense, yes I guess you can eat too much fruit?

I go for a walk if I'm still feeling "mentally hungry" after dinner. In fact, I have to make sure I don't exercise BEFORE dinner, because if I do, I'm just not hungry for anything afterwards.

Someone quick, send me some of that flax bread! The sliced bread in Japan is often upwards of 150 calories for just one SLICE. :(

I was actually very surprised when I made (and liked!!) this tofu-cashew mayo recipe: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2012/04/tofu-cashew-mayonnaise.html Obviously don't expect it to taste like the real thing, but it's great in its own right if you use a good brand of tofu. :) I second the greek yogurt option too - different…

It can be a psychological thing, like the above posters said, such as compulsive eating disorder, or binge eating disorder or emotional eating: http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm http://www.helpguide.org/articles/eating-disorders/binge-eating-disorder.htm But it can also be a…

Almond milk, banana, cocoa, chocolate protein makes a great chocolate-banana milkshake-esque thing. Lucky you with you peanut butter flavored powder could probably make a Reeses flavored one though. ;) Also, not a shake but this recipe for protein breakfast carrot muffins didn't turn out gross and dry like some protein…

Nice to meet you! I started with a total of 55lbs to lose (13 to go!) If you ever need support/motivation/advice/anything, feel free to add me as a friend too. :)

What the above posters said. I occasionally use xylitol. It can have a bit of a cooling mouth-feel and it's not quite as sweet as sugar. If you don't want to risk experimenting, I'd suggest only using recipes other people have developed that are tried and true. Also for some reason, it doesn't taste sweet at all to some…

I'd love some C25K buddies too. :) I could literally not run for more than 30 seconds at a time before I started, but tonight I'm starting week 4 day 1. But you know. It's more fun with friends.

Well, then you should be all good! :) It would be nice if we actually did burn what the machines told us... then I could burn 500 calories in one short hour on my exercise bike... Anyways, I've found the information on this site pretty enlightening.…

Hey! I'm Cait. I'm 26 and I live in Japan. I've known about my PCOS since I was 15, and changing my diet, exercising and losing weight has really helped me manage the symtoms a lot! :)

What DOES she like already? If we know that, we can probably help you calorify it.
