Is there a limit to how much fruit I can have?

If I hit fat and protein and am in a calorie deficit, can I eat how ever much fruit I want? Or should I have only 2-3 servings to watch the sugar?

Eat as much fruit as you want within your calorie deficit.

What is your calorie goal? That is your limit.

Fruit has calories. You have to count fruit towards your daily calorie allowance. Even too much fruit calories can put you over on calories.

Sounds like you've been on Weight Watchers. Fruits have calories too. Count them just as you do fats and protein and stay at your calorie goal.

I'm not diabetic and I'm not on weight watchers, but just was wondering if too much sugar from fruit would be bad. Thanks for the clarifications

There are more nutritious, satiating options, so if you're getting all your carbs from fruit you may want to rethink your diet.... But there is nothing wrong with fruit.

We argue about this topic at least once a week.

My position is that too much sugar is too much sugar. If you want to eat fruit, cut other things out of your diet which contain sugar.

I can't answer that. Only your doctor and dietitian can answer that.

I have come to the conclusion that in my world, there is no such thing as too much fruit. Back when I had to make changes, the doctor gave me instructions and said I could eat all the fruits and veggies I wanted. It was the one thing I had going for me, lol. I haven't let go of it.

I eat more fruit and less protein than are generally recommended. I just don't love protein foods and do love fruit. I gave up on caring about it. I'm healthier and happier than before, so it's working for me.

I don't even pay attention to protein. When I crave meat or tuna, I eat it. When I don't, I don't. I eat a lot of edamame, though.

I've argued the point that maybe some people just don't need as much protein as others. I have not had anyone official, like a doctor or dietitian, agree with me. I may be wrong, but I really think that different people eat differently for their own reasons.

I like fruit and I eat loads of it. :)

Well, I mean, if you're ONLY eating fruit, then you're going to be short on protein and fats, and some forms of micro nutrients... so in a sense, yes I guess you can eat too much fruit?

I would hit the protein and fat though, just was wondering if the sugar intake from fruit should be considered. But thanks everyone!!

How do you determine "too much"? This just seems like a circular argument.

Too much would be 1,000 bananas a day.

I eat one pound of strawberries a day, two plums and a nectarine. Sometimes I mix it up with apples or oranges instead of the plums and nectarines. Or blueberries instead of strawberries. At 226 pounds I'm losing 2 pounds a week very consistently. I eat about 1300 calories a day.

If you are counting your calories correctly and accurately and are at a deficit, eat whatever fruit you want. I think apples are around 100 calories so it just goes to show that even fruit can have higher calories.

I'd say make sure you get enough veggies too, and a varied diet overall, but on the whole, barring medical issues, I think that's the way to look at it. IMO, it's too much fruit if it's preventing you from getting adequate protein, adequate fat, adequate other things that are beneficial, or kicking you over your calories. Since you are saying that's not the case, then the fruit shouldn't be a problem and isn't a bad way to spend extra calories if you enjoy it.

    I love summer fruit.

Isn't that what the "in a calorie deficit" bit referred to? OP was asking specifically about fruit within his or her calories, right?

For me, 16 would do it.
