Continuing AF for May.
-
Before waking up, I dreamed about having a glass of wine, and thinking it tasted too good -- despite not being a wine I'd normally consider wanting to drink. My take away is that at some level, I miss the alcohol, but it is the first time, as much as I can remember, that I've dreamed of wine in 4 months AF. So far, then,…

Thank you for posting this article.... very insightful.

Last night, my daughter texted, asking if, now that more than 3 months have passed, would I be having wine again? I sent a lengthy reply to her, trying my best not to be preachy. She has already told me she "knows all that" --- about the harm from alcohol. I could only say that perhaps I'd want wine again, but at this…

@JulieAL1969 Years ago, I worked at a group home for troubled teens ...and in those days, I had no interest in drinking, but the rest of the staff used to drink very heavily, IMO, at parties. Julie, I got a kick out of the typo ("impatient" program, not to criticize, of course, but teens are very impatient to become adults…

Moderators, please read no further. This is a very long article, courtesy of Hip Sobriety's FB post ....and, last year, I wouldn't have read it myself. It challenges prevalent notions about supposed benefits of moderate alcohol consumption. Those who are looking more or less toward being AF than A-less, less-A or less is…

Wow! A few days away …(SOOOOO much trouble with MFP!) .... Now I come back and this new thread has taken off! A lot of people have decided to take a look at their alcohol consumption, and to cut it down or out. I think this is very good, because we are helping each other to clearly examine the benefits and drawbacks of…

I think there is a thread that will help explain further how to do this. In addition there is a recipe thread/food and nutrition section. You have to determine the number of servings ... so if you make 4 cups at a time (4 servings) you input everything in the manual entry for Recipes on this site under the food tab -- I…

We eat a lot of Indian (Pakistani) food, but I modified the way it is made it for the sake of my husband's heart and cholesterol issues (not to mention my own overweight!). If you do make it yourself, then try frying the onions with less (half) the oil you normally would use, and use the recipe builder on MFP. I realize…

I am 63 and have been back on MFP since New Years. By the end of February I had lost 10 lbs. This probably was due to losing extra holiday weight gain -- not to mention, I decided to do Dry January, and then just kept going. Not being a heavy drinker, it did not seem necessary to make this change before, but now, even…

Just popping in to say, "Hi" and congrats to you all -- great job working on the AF or AM (as the case may be). Still AF for me, though I do confess to some wistful missing the chardonnay I used to think I enjoyed. My AF-fueled weight loss has slowed right down ... could it be because I'm not controlling what I eat as well…

Ha Ha! It's good to have a ready response, and this is a good one for some! I also like a great quote from Holly Whittaker's hipsobriety.com blog: "No, thank you." is a complete sentence.

We had a dietician speak to our running group and she gave an example of this. If one's ideal weight (maintenance) is 150, then by eating no more than 1800 calories per day, the weight would eventually adjust, once it is no longer at a deficit, and it would have to work, if CICO is the truth! The beauty of that formula is…

Yup, it was Wolf Blast Chardonnay.... truly it made me question the decision. But I remembered Holly's NQTD tattoo (Holly of the Hip Sobriety blog) NQTD = "never question the decision"

My friend (drinking buddy, pre-2018) was over last night with a bottle of one of my favourite wines ... and a bag of lightly salted Ruffles (bless her!) No matter. I enjoyed my cran/soda with frozen pineapple as I poured the Wolf for her. I did feel a little wistful for the Wolf, but didn't see any benefit to joining her…

Good for you and re-establishing your goals. I still like the quote, although it is better with a word such as healthier, or (my preference) lighter. That is not to say that feeling your clothes fit better, or being able to wear smaller sizes doesn't feel really good!. When my eating is unhealthy, I feel it a lot more…

Yes, at the beginning, C25K may seem over easy. The goal is to establish a consistency of practice (running). It builds up soon enough if you do each of the workouts 3 times. Before you know it, you'll be running 20 minutes straight. As for other exercise -- stretching and strength are complementary to establishing a run…

That's a great quote ... thanks, and it's wonderful that you are AF for 4 years.

Karaoke night again --- no, it's not a weekly thing, but after last week's AF night out, it's good to go again. I really don't miss it, and it gives me a chance to pick up and drive one of us, and get some extra chat time in.

Still dry after Karaoke bar with friends - --- 51 days down and dry!

Out with my friends for karaoke tonight .... no, I didn't sing, but I didn't drink, either. Just couldn 't think of the right song, but it was great to be with my drinking friends and not drink.

@AnnPT77 I think I wrote before considering your previous post more carefully. Thank you for your comments -- and I couldn't agree with you more! Yours is is also very inspiring feedback; and it has made me think of my own stepmom who is 87 and really has let her ideas about limitations cage and enfeeble her --- much more…

Everyone has different goals, and it's wonderful that you have achieved amazingly well, but it does not mean that everyone else can do the same as you. What does it matter if their long term goals are short? They can always be revised. There are those for whom setting any kind of self-improvement goal (achievable for that…
