  • I had to count calories before, so that isn't something new for me unfortunately. I was a turtle before ketosis, a turtle on ketosis, and a brick now. I am one of the lucky ones in that I did not get paralysis, but I have lower body parasthesia and internal numbness. Can't feel anything until it hits the pelvic floor, so…
  • You have gotten a lot of good advice so far, so I'll just note what my experience has been so you know you aren't the only one. :) I've low carbed for about 15 years, but had to go under 50 carbs to budge any weight, and then it was about a pound a month. After 6 months, I dropped down to 20 and had some limited success.…
  • Glad to know everyone has success on keto after removal. Mine was removed during an emergency procedure less than a week ago, and I've been almost to scared to see if people were able to continue on the plan, as it the only option for weight loss for my body. Its a relief to know that when a few weeks have passed, I can…

  • I wouldn't worry about logging while you are there. Enjoy the trip and the new food. You know what to do to keep up your proteins and fats, so branching out a little bit won't make a gigantic impact on your weight. Thinking you have to log every day and every bite is going to get irritating over the weeks, especially as…
  • I agree with nvmom. If I go over 50 carbs, I am kicked out of ketosis. Going back to my <20, I used to go back through the flu. Now that I'm keto adapted, I'm back to fat burn mode in less than 2 days. That in and out of flu a year back was killer. It wasn't until I dropped to keto levels, that I felt stable for the first…
  • I was going to say, if he tries it again, tell him he reminds you of your son. Then someone mentioned the 'mommy' issues and I gagged....
  • Been a few weeks now Dan. How do you like the new unit?
  • I gained weight steadily on one meal a day of about 1000 cals - for well over a decade. I didn't eat because I wasn't hungry, and then ate one big meal. My minimum intake was supposed to be 1500 cals a day, but at the time, I just couldn't bring myself to eat that much, because the thought of eating made me gag. I know for…
  • I hope I get to the point I can graciously accept a compliment. After 65 pounds lost, I still feel like I look the same. I'm trying to change my own view of myself and am heading to get a fresh new haircut today. Hopefully, it will be flattering so I can start to see myself as I actualy look - not like I still weigh 288.
  • I appreciate the information Dan, and agree that it can be annoying. After I got back from vacation, I tried to catch up with my friends and encourage them on their activity when I was gone, but all I got was long lists of automatic postings on my wall. Since my internet has been flaky, and shutting on and off for no…
  • He sent me a pm about that, and I'll be anxiously awaiting his feedback. My husband is not convinced I need it, but I track a lot of variables and try new things, so I think it would be a great tool, but the recent changes to the unit made me hesitate.
  • The liverwurst, or braunschsweiger, I buy is from a local processor, and doesn't have a lot of those extra preservatives. It comes in a tube, with a removable casing, and cut into approx 1 pound sections. Ours is firm, like summer sausage, and I eat it sliced with veggies or cheese. It's wonderful sliced into a sandwich as…
  • Swerve is extremely sweet to me, and doesn't dissolve well. I have to cut the amount in half to get the sweetness I want, and since it doesn't dissolve well, I get some grainy parts in my fat bombs and a little residue in the bottom of my coffee cup. Taste is fine to me, but my daughter says it has an aftertaste.
  • I'm technically a diabetic Kirkor, so I want to know if I'm staying in nutritional ketosis or not. My levels have been in the normal range for the last year, but I want to stay on top of it, and its one of the reasons I chose ketogenic to start with. I will probably only be testing a couple times a week, but with severe…
  • Thanks again Dan! I have the last one in college, and I have to be careful about expenses right now. I know the cost is far less than blood meters over the long term, but the upfront investment is making me second guess. If you find it a good investment, I'll take the plunge.
  • I have already gone the medication route for my PCOS, including Met. I am totally med free, not even for my diabetes, and will trudge on without the 'explosive' side effects I had. I haven't had a single pill of Met in over a decade, but I can clearly remember the stomach cramps and sprint for the bathroom. :)
  • I'm pretty sure we've seen this before! I thought you left....
  • I haven't really lost a huge chunk at any point in time. My losses are around 3 pounds a month. Turtle style. This has been a long, slow slog through thick mud. I thought I'd stop at some setpoints, but I passed those fifteen pounds ago. The territory I'm in now was during a pregnancy. I won't hit another weight that I was…
  • Yes, I have an eating plan that I stick to, macros and everything. It's not hard, and I'm starting to try new foods and recipes to see if I can shake things up a little. This is an absolute life change for medical reasons, and I have no intentions of ever living less than a 30 carb restriction for life. Since I cut all…
  • That is fabulous! I lose so slow, that I expect goal to be at least two years off, if not longer. It took me over a year and a half to get 58 gone. I think I'm going to make a sign with that quote and put it where I can see it all the time. When I hit 100 gone, I'll be less than 10 from my 'fantasy' goal - which is still…
  • Any updates on the IPL hair 'removal'????
  • I told my doc over a decade ago that while I was on Met, I couldn't eat bread or pasta because it made me sick. She told me it wasn't due to the meds. I soon stopped taking them and went fully low carb. The problem went away. Guess it was the Met.
  • ... you buy 10 pounds of butter at a time when it goes on sale. ... you get funny looks at the grocery store when you grab multiple quart cartons of heavy cream. ... you obsessively read every single label on processed food to find hidden carbs ... you start slicing veg in different ways to see if they 'dip' better to hold…
  • I bruise easily, but since going keto, I have less than when I was just low carbing. I sprained both ankles two days ago, and even now, only one is turning spectacular colors. I am not a fast healer, so this progress is fantastic.

  • You could also use bowling balls for weights, and a duffle to help with the lifting for the 100 pounds. I doubt you could find a backpack that could take that kind of abuse.
  • I eat pizza toppings about once a week with no adverse effects. It's nice to have a meal with my family where we all eat the same.
  • I'm with you Gale. Started VLC and then ketogenic because I read that it might help my psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Except for those rare days when I overwork my hands, I haven't had pain in months. The psoriasis has been far more resistant to change, but at least now, I know its not diet related.
  • I'd be in for the beta too. It would be nice to search for food where people hadn't entered their 'version' that was accurate on calories but didn't add the rest of the macros. Sometimes it takes forever to find the listing that is true.
  • I lost about thirty pounds last year on low carb without counting calories. Very slow losses. My rate increased when I started tracking.
