  • There'll be a half marathon going through my city on Saturday, btw, and while I won't be trying to take part (armed with my newfound ability to run 2km! ), I'll be watching for a while. I might even pick up a few hints regarding form etc.
  • Thank you so much for the encouragement!
  • Looks like I'm going to reach my 10km goal this week! Just a few weeks ago, I found it extremely hard to run for 200 metres and now I can manage a 2 km run without having to take a break. This is happening so fast!
  • Ooh yes! Two kilometres today. Also, no stitch, though I've no idea what I did differently.
  • I can't keep up with you people....and I'm not even talking about running. XD I've never seen such a lively thread before! Running is becoming easier for me, though my knees still act up sometimes. I'll try doing more hip exercises since I'm sure I lack core/hip strength. Still, today's kilometre ( ) was fun - great…
  • Another 1km run! I opted for the lawns instead of the cobblestone path today, and my knees seemed to approve. Running was still difficult though, possibly because I'm having a tired/hungry week. Re: geese - there are Egyptian geese all over the place around here, and while they do not normally care about walkers and…
  • Running on 3 or 4 days a week is one of my goals for when I get better at it - I'm starting with two sessions per week so my legs get a chance to recover from what I'm doing to them (and what I'm doing wrong). I'm hoping to do more soon - until then, I'll be swimming in between as it's easier on the joints. ;) This group…
  • Thank you so much for the encouragement! I do always feel caught between my reasons not to run (it's hard, my joints and muscles aren't used to it, I have health problems anyway, I have to get out of bed first...) and the reasons why I want to run (it's fun, it makes me feel happier and more awake, it actually helps with…
  • @ceciliaslater Aw, I'm so sorry. :( Such an adorable dog. :(
  • Thank you, guys (and everyone else who replied)! Looks like runners really are a super nice bunch. :D I first tried to start running about a year ago and had a lot of trouble with my ankle back then. I tried taking breaks, stretching, running more slowly etc. etc. and ended up making it worse with all my clever strategies.…
  • Oookay, you guys must find this a little funny, but I'm a beginner dragging a couple of health problems around, so I'm quite happy with my single kilometre. ;) I was going to do more, but my knee started acting up a bit, and I've learned to stop right away when that happens.
  • I have mfp set to sedentary and negative cals enabled. It usually takes calories away in the morning when I haven't done much walking, but it all evens out later in the day unless I'm sick in bed or something.
  • Hello! I'm pretty new to running and don't really know how much I can manage, so I'll settle for the modest goal of 10km. :)
  • Realistically, you aren't going to spend the rest of your life eating the same number of calories every day. Once you're in the maintenance stage, having a feeling of where you are at this week or month will be at least as useful as knowing how much food you can have for 1450 calories or whatever. I personally adjust my…
  • I've never participated in a challenge before. Can I join please?
  • I love Starbucks, but as I lost more and more weight, I learned to go there less often. It's become a special treat and/or social thing by now. The cash I saved in the process was a pleasant side effect, which I am unfortunately used to by now. ;) I wouldn't stress over it if I were you. As long as it fits into your…
  • I have a fair amount of dieting/weight loss experience by now and for me, stuff like that just happens sometimes. I had a three - week weight loss stall last month. I'm not sure what it is, but it's completely possible and not necessarily something to worry about.
  • Patience is really important when you don't have a lot of weight to lose, and it might be particularly important in your case. If you're sure you want to lose those 10/15 pounds, maybe just stick to a sensible calorie goal, don't pay too much attention to the scale and focus on exercise and general health and happiness?…
  • Don't eat after 6pm because you won't burn any of the calories unless you exercise after eating Never eat carbs for dinner Always leave five hours between meals Just have a light soup or a salad for lunch (This may work for some, but I need food that fills me up.) If you lower your calorie intake, your weight will yo-yo as…
  • The last 10-20 pounds can make for a slow and frustrating project, but in my experience, losing them more quickly often means putting them back on fairly quickly too. I'd go for 0.5-1 lb too.
  • I always get around 400 calories for 10 000 steps. I have my activity level set to sedentary since it tends to differ a lot from day to day, so I feel free to eat some of those calories back if I'm hungry.
  • I'll add you - you'll save a lot of calories by cooking your own food instead of buying processed stuff!
  • I lost a lot of weight with MFP a few years ago, so I'm not a proper newbie. I've come back because I want to lose a couple more kilos and tone up a bit though, so I'd love some new contacts - newbies, people looking to lose, people looking to build muscle, anyone! Feel free to add me. :)
  • I am back after a long break - I pretty much reached my goal weight last time around, but am now back in order to lose "those last five or ten pounds" and tone up a little! You can both add me if you like. :) I could use some friends.
  • I've also come back to lose a couple more kilos - and hopefully build some muscle! You can add me if you like. :)
  • Thanks, it does help. :) I guess what I'm mostly worried about is the flab just staying right where it is if I don't eat at a deficit - is that going to happen? I've watched 30DS on youtube and it seems really hard. (Maybe you can tell just how weak I am from this comment, lol). I'd be pretty ecstatic if I could last…
  • I got a flex about a week ago and it confuses me a bit too. I've read somewhere on here that it's a good idea to rely on MFP for food tracking and calories and on the fitbit for exercise (and to log weight training and stuff manually as the fitbit doesn't track it). If others have more experience with the fitbit I'd be…
  • The good news is that all of us chubby people are going to survive the next famine because we've become immune to weight loss.
