Good turn out this morning, and we started in the light!! It's finally feeling like spring now that it's light around 6 am again. Doing my LR on Saturday meant that I felt pretty fresh this morning, so it was hard to keep the pace down to stick with the group. But now I'm home, and I'm spending the day curled up in bed watching the Boston Marathon and writing my thesis. Happy Marathon Monday, folks!

@WhatMeRunning: We must like beer in Eastern Pennsylvania.

@kristinegift: Well, the tip of my nose is already beginning to peel. :disappointed: I'm not entirely sure why I didn't even think of sunscreen, either. This is the first time I've had a significant sunburn in years. I'm usually very careful to slather SPF 70 on my Casper skin. Oh, well. The sports bra sunburn line on my chest is quite sexy! haha

@4leighbee: I tend to stare down people coming towards me so I can make eye contact to at least smile. When they purposefully continue to look at their feet to avoid making eye contact with me, I loudly tell them "hi" or "good morning" or something. I think it makes people uncomfortable, and that makes it even more fun to me!

To add a bit to the trail shoe discussion, I have a pair of Saucony Peregrine. They are comfortable, light and give me the traction I need for both a rail-trail run on fine gravel as well as good grip for more technical trail running.

I'm looking forward to hearing the personal experiences from Boston, today! A friend of mine from growing up is running, again, this year. Last year, he finished in 2:53:48. His girlfriend, who is quite the running beast, is running this year, as well. I'm interested to see how everyone finishes this year and hearing all about it!

    @instantmartian

My light trail shoes are Peregrine 5s. Definitely different grip conditions to Salomon Speedcross3. In slippery mud or obstacles I'd prefer the Salomons, in gravel and general woods runs, the Peregrines are my choice.

I'll post profile side by sides later.

@instantmartian - You sure seem to have a lot of runs up there that revolve around beer. Maybe I'm in the wrong part of the country!

Hope the knee issue clears up soon @AdrianChr92.

Yeah, I am in the wrong part too. LOL

Take it easy @AdrianChr92 and I hope the knee gets better soon.

    4/17-16 miles
    4/18 yoga

16 mile long run yesterday was my first solo long run since I decided to help my girlfriend along on her May 1st marathon, so this was my first long run done at my own pace. I finished at the Starbucks near my house then walked two miles (mostly up steep hills) to get home, took my dog for a walk, then went roller skating for our friend's 6 year old's b-day party. I have only roller skated once in the past 20 or so years. I do not recommend this sequence of events to anyone in their right mind. Today's workout is dedicated to yoga.

Very excited for the Boston Marathon today. And then the countdown begins until next year when I will likely (hopefully?) be running it too. Until then, best of luck to @MobyCarp and my other friends that will be there! Go kill it!!!

    Already shamelessly streaming it!

Behind on posts, haven't checked in here since Thursday. Will try to catch up.

    4/1 - 3.5 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
    4/2 - Life day
    4/3 - 10 miles. Very windy.
    4/4 - Rest day.
    4/5 - 4 miles on the treadmill, then weights/abs.
4/6 - 4.3 miles. Cool, damp and breezy.
4/7 - 4.5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
    4/8 - Rest day...lots of housework/painting/yardwork
4/9 - 4.05 mile trail race...super fun with local microbrews at the end! Had way more fun than I expected!
4/10 - Skipped my long run due to back pain / spasms. Not sure if they were from the trail race or from moving my son's room. Had to skip my planned 10+ mile long run. Hope it gets better fast!
4/11 - Woke up with continued back pain. Getting cranky.
4/12 - 4.4 miles. Chilly, but tolerable. Back was tender, but not painful.
4/13 - 5.43 miles. Went further than planned, because it was beautiful out.
    4/14 - 3.48 mile evening run.
4/15 - 10.01 miles. UGLY. Hot, humid early afternoon run. Went out too fast. Had to take a short walk break in the middle.
    4/16 - Rest day.
    4/17 - 5.19 miles. Cool, comfortable.
    4/18 - 4.72 miles.

There'll be a half marathon going through my city on Saturday, btw, and while I won't be trying to take part (armed with my newfound ability to run 2km! ), I'll be watching for a while. I might even pick up a few hints regarding form etc.

@MNLittleFinn - In all seriousness, my "time goal" for my first HM was to not let the Kenyan elites finish the marathon before I finished the half!
