I have been lifting for about a year. Started SUPER lightweight (couldn’t even lift the empty barbell to start) and have been adding weight EXTREMELY slowly and conservatively to avoid injury (which I’ve had in the past). I am now seeing some very exciting results, especially on my arms and back. Not a lot of “mass” but…

Dip tilapia in egg and then coat with Panko bread crumbs seasoned with onion powder, chili powder and salt and pepper. Spray with nonstick spray. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Top with avocado and salsa. Or put pieces of tilapia (cooked the same way) in a corn tortilla together with shredded cabbage, avocado and salsa and…

I’ ve had an extra cup of coffee before a gym workout and have not noticed a lot of difference. The answer to your question depends on your personal tolerance to caffeine. I think the latest USDA recommendation is 400 mg per day pax. YMMV.

There is if you move out of the “Getting Started” forum and check out some of the others.

The last four sentences are the secret to success. You cannot fail as long as you keep logging and write off binge/cheat days as only a temporary slowdown to your progress. Consistency and persistence will allow you to succeed in the long term.

Your weight on the scale will fluctuate up and down (sometimes by a LOT) during your weight loss journey. This is normal! When you eat carbs your body retains water to aid in digesting them. This is one reason so many people like to eat low carb. I would suggest that you not rely only on scale weight; also take progress…

I just reached my goal weight, which in the past has triggered the “yea now I can eat what I want” mentality. But because I am older, my maintenance cals are only 1450. Last night my husband and I went to a dance potluck and I was eyeing the sweets table. I really wanted some, BUT I knew from logging my calories that I…

Last time (7 years ago) I got a new iPad. This time I am rewarded enough by how I look and feel and my delight in wearing smalls and extra smalls. To stay motivated I’m now going to see how I can resculpt my body through lifting. I am still a beginner, so I’m excited to see what might happen in a year. So I’ll probably buy…

Wear a helmet and knee, hip and elbow pads! Especially if outdoors! Then enjoy.

I can’t eat Quest bars much anymore. I think they reformulated again. If I eat more than 1 a week, I have very uncomfortable gas, bloating and constipation for days.

Be careful of these as a complete beginner. Use online resources and/or a trainer to learn correct form, and do not feel the need to add as much weight as fast as these programs proscribe, especially as a woman. They advocate too much too soon for some people. I sidelined myself several times for months at a time trying to…

Worst-case scenario: you gain some or all of the weight back. But you know now that you can lose it, and how! Won’t be fun or easy, but regaining weight is not the worst thing that can happen in life. I just reached maintenance (for the second time in 7 years) and to keep myself motivated to continue tracking, logging and…

I only lost 18 pounds. Some of what I’m seeing might be loose skin, since skin loses elasticity with age, but there is definitely fat under there as well. I appreciate all the feedback. I think I will try recomp (eating at maintenance and continuing to lift), as I don’t really want to get much smaller (it’s already a bit…

^^This. I have strained/pulled muscles lifting what most people consider VERY light weight, but it was too heavy for me and I wasn’t using good form. I didn’t realize I’d done anything until the day after, and then I was sidelined from lifting for 2 months.

Check out BitGym and similar apps that take you on a hiking, walking or cycling journey through cities and countrysides across the US and in Europe as you watch on your tablet while doing cardio. Saved me last winter when I couldn’t get out to snowshoe or cross-country ski. There is a subscription fee, but it’s not a lot.

You can’t change your overall shape, that’s genetics. Losing weight, gaining strength, building muscle etc. are all great goals, but you must also learn to love your body. I have come to terms with the short, stumpy legs I was born with, for example, because they are healthy and strong and get me where I need to go. I wish…

Some protein bars are yummy sweet, like Pure Protein chocolate caramel. Fruit really satisfies my sweet tooth, especially fresh mango. I also like flavored Greek yogurt. Or plain Greek yogurt with mashed up blackberries and sweetener added (I use artificial sweetener).

I’m loving menopause so far. Except for the chin hairs.

Tried ACV to help me lose weight a few years ago. It did nothing but make me gag at the taste.

I took Pescience alphamine for the first time today because they sent me a sample with my protein powder. This was my first time taking any sort of pre-workout. Usually I don’t take anything; a few times I’ve drunk coffee. OMG. This pre-workout was amazing, and I have always sneered at pre-workouts as a gimmick and ploy by…

I never tell anyone I'm trying to lose weight. If they ask why I’m not indulging in something I just say I don’t feel like having any right now. Sometimes I say I just don’t care for the food. Not much they can say to that.

Tops I own in size small are now too big. Whaaat? Am I going to have to start shopping i. The junior’s dept? A leather jacket I’ve owned since I was in my 30s - when I was a size 4 - is now too big. Not happy about that one. Losing weight when you’re older is really weird.

I’m going to France in a month and am a bit afraid of how much I will gain, as I am already drooling over cheese, baguettes and macarons. Not necessarily in that order!

You only “mess it all up” if you give up. I’ve had several times when I was hungry all day long and ended up eating something like 1000 calories over my limit. I just started logging and eating within my calorie goal again the next day (and the day after that, and the day after that...). Long-term consistency, patience and…

I am 5’’4” and 123 pounds; one pound from goal. I still compare myself to others. But what I have learned to do is let that *kitten* go after I’ve thought it. There are so many ways I could still be unhappy with my body; you will ALWAYS find something that doesn’t “measure up” when comparing to others. You need to do you.…

You have to want it ENOUGH. Enough to do the hard work and make the changes in lifestyle losing weight often requires. Driving home instead of to the gym is a choice. Eating chips instead of something healthier is a choice. The choice is up to you. Sorry to sound harsh, but there is no easy way.

OP, do you weigh your food? You say you portion it out and are strict on counting, but I would guess that you are counting incorrectly if you are not weighing your food, and eating way more calories than you think. You are probably not in the calorie deficit that you think you are.

Personally for me, wings have too much fat, too many bones and not enough protein to make them worth eating. But I wouldn’t call them unhealthy unless you are loading them up with too much saturated fat, which you aren’t.
