  • There's a burger place by me that does a superb veggie burger with a fried egg on top, a Nutella milkshake and truffle fries. Each amazing, together they make for a mind blowing meal. That is what I would waste calories on.
  • It has taken me a LONG time to come to grips with the fact that I use food as both a reward and a comfort. Great day-have a treat! In a bad mood? Have a treat! So basically every day needs a treat. Which is why I have 15 more pounds to lose (kind of surprising it's not more). I have had a hard time coming up with other…
  • Just finished My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan (SO good--cried at the end) and moving on to Nation by Terry Pratchett and Lord of the Flies (the two books I assigned to my 8th graders for summer reading--clearly I have read them before but need to refresh--I read Lord of the Flies literally every summer). Also have When Life…
  • 1. green tea -- I drink an insane amount of unsweetened green tea every day, hot or cold--all day-energy without jitters 2. kombucha -- feels like a treat, healthy, not too many calories, many interesting flavors 3. skinny pop -- fav go-to snack 4. living two blocks from Lake Michigan so I can take walks on the lake trails…
  • also I just went on Amazon and ordered three kinds of Oreos. Thanks a lot. Perhaps my lack of self control has something to do with this extra 15 pounds...hmmmm...(lol)
  • OMG you guys are killing me with all the Oreo flavors!! I LOVE the thins--so satisfying for a small treat with a cup of tea in the evening that won't kill your calories for the day! (what a grammar mess that sentence was...). The mint and the coconut are my favorites, but I haven't seen many of the other ones, so I could…
  • Actually it's good that you had one right away and didn't waste time pining away for them!!!
  • Overnight oats over here--1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup plain unsweetened soy milk, lots of cinnamon and blueberries! Or hot with banana and walnuts. or tropical with mango and coconut.

  • Hi again! I have tried Halo Top and I really do not like it. I have tried several flavors and it just does nothing for me. I'm a big girl, just need to put on my big girl pants and make better choices. It's so easy for me to know what I need to do and so hard to just DO IT already. I have had a much more in control of…
  • Oh you are 100% correct--I am all or nothing! If I can't have the entire sleeve of thin mints, then forget it, I don't want any (picture me stomping my foot like a petulant 4 year old...) I do realize that is not a great outlook for maintaining healthy relationships with food. The amount of crap food in my house really was…
  • I am 47, going to be 48 in October, and I will confess--I feel way older. The past 6 years have been one thing after another--separation from husband, teenage son overdosed and spent 8 weeks in rehab, a year of unemployment (husband), two back surgeries (me). I finally feel like things may be settling down. The son is on…
  • Skinny Cow does a chocolate-pretzel-caramel ice cream thing that is to die for and only 160 calories. Otherwise I second going to bed earlier. For me, the more tired I am the less self control I have.
  • vegetarian crock pot chili from the website Gimme some Oven which I just found. Topped it with low fat sour cream and Trader Joe's guilt free guacamole. It was terrific and I have tons of leftovers.
  • I totally agree with log it and move on. I pack snacks when I am going to be running around a bunch. It's also cheaper and I am on a pretty strict budget. That said, even starbucks has some decent meal choices. I will have one of their oatmeals for lunch, who cares?? They have all their food and drinks labeled with…
  • Overnight oats and egg muffins are my go-tos. Overnight oats is 1/2 cup oats (old fashioned NOT quick or steel cut), 1/2 cup milk of your choice, stick it in the fridge overnight. I use mason jars for this, but you could use any tupperware that seals up tight. I add cinnamon and usually some flax seed or maybe hemp seeds.…
  • All of this advice is so helpful. I too mess up more than I wish I would. I know what makes me overeat or eat the wrong things and the more I try to address those the more likely I am to stay on track. If I have been to restrictive then I am likely to say "screw it--I deserve this __________" OR if I have not adequately…
  • any dressing by Boathouse Farms--creamy without the calories, or 1 tablespoon of hummus loosened up with a little fresh lemon juice. if the salad has avocado on it then I don't do dressing
  • peanut butter, yogurt, nuts--watch portion size. typically a varied diet with plenty of fresh, whole foods has plenty of protein in it anyway--not hard to jack it up a little bit. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and no issues.
  • Nature Valley granola bar and peanut butter sandwich biscuit things--whatever they are called. They taste like a healthy Nutter Butter. I am addicted. 190 calories. Actually holds me in the morning if I am in a hurry. LOVE.
  • I think every other day is better for my back. This slipped disc is really not fun. I have found if I do yoga every day, it's a bit much, but every other seems not to cause as much pain. still figuring out how to manage it... BTW--thanks to everyone who adds a yoga video to their post--love those--I have done a few! Thanks…
  • cookies. any kind. homemade, store bought, stale, crispy, soft, fresh, hot, cold...you get the idea. cookies and tea is my happy place...trying to break the association and just have TEA make me happy. not quite there... lol
  • Hi ladies--I kinda lost count. Got back to it today though. I did 20 minutes with Kerri Verna and about half of the sciatica video posted above--that one is TERRIFIC--I am going to start with that one tomorrow. Happy Yoga everyone!
  • why am I trying to lose 20 pounds? because I am only 47 and feel very very old. because I have a slipped disc in my back that is incredibly painful and I want to recover from the surgery well and quickly. because I am tired of looking lumpy and soft.
  • I do a lot of food prep on the weekends which actually kind of reminds me to stay on track and if I snack while prepping it's okay because I am prepping healthy food. That said, I ALSO tend to stay up later on the weekends and do a fair amount of mindless eating, so there is that too...
  • watching Girlfriend's Guide to Getting a Divorce on Netflix (LOVE LOVE LOVE) and eating watermelon-feta-mint salad.
  • Day 4 -- I got a bolster from Little Worries Yoga. It was pretty interesting. I did a bunch of poses without it--warriors, sun salutations, childs poses, cats and cows, then I used the bolster to jack up my hips while I did that inversion where you lay with your legs up the wall, then I did these back bends over the…
  • Day 2 I didn't do--fell asleep on the couch before I got to yoga. Today--Day 3--20 minute flow with this online bundle I bought through omstars + did some poses from Kerri Verna's 30 day challlenge. carisoda--thanks for the kind words. I am hoping a combo of yoga and acupuncture will help + swimming when I can get myself…
  • I can relate. I too have very little self control when it comes to cookies. And like you it's a big fat F-you to the rest of the world--I am a big girl, I will eat whatever I damn please. But then I realize, no, I am an adult--get ahold of yourself. A few things that have helped me NOT buy them--I am in total agreement…
