  • Thank you so much. My problem was that I didn't know those comments were called "news feeds." That bar across the top that said, "NEWS FEED," should have been a clue, but I thought that was something you clicked on if you wanted actual news, like Google News. Sigh. I'm learning.
  • The opener made her mistake saying "younger," without saying younger than what. I'm 69 but I'm younger than my 85 year-old friend. If it's for teens only that's a different thing but I got to tell you, I can say awesome with the best of you.;)
  • I quit a long time ago, but I still remember it as the hardest thing I ever did. I used the nicotine patches. I'm sure I couldn't have done it without them because I had tried and couldn't sleep for the nightmares. I had smoked two packs a year for a long time so my brain was well and truly hooked on nicotine. You can do…
  • I've always had a slight roundness to my lower abdomen even during the years when I only weighed 110 pounds. My doctor said that women who have a healthy amount of estrogen will store it in that area. In other words -- women aren't really supposed to have six-packs.
  • The idea that "sugar feeds cancer cells" is misleading because sugar feeds all cells so it isn't targeting the cancer cells in particular. However the research that says sugar can increase the risk for certain cancers is fairly conclusive. https://mdanderson.org/newsroom/2015/12/sugar-in-western-diets.html
  • It sounds like you're doing fine, JayZ. The spoonful of brown sugar probably doesn't make you go over 45g for the day anyway. The amount of sugar in their diet does matter to some people, though. Sweet foods can cause blood sugar to spike and the pancreas to produce lots of insulin to try to handle it. This insulin in the…
  • That's a great article! It really sounds like me and the fudge thing, because it's not really a matter of being hungry but just wanting the pleasure. Thank you!
  • It's very funny. but the singing is really amazing!
  • If I go off Christmas Day, I'll probably tell myself to go ahead and stay off a second day to clean up the left overs and things I didn't get a chance to try. After that, I would probably just say, what the heck, stay off the diet until January first and make it a New Years resolution to get back on. By that time I could…
  • There was a time when my scale was wonky -- I could get on and off three times in a row and get three different numbers. Before I could afford a new scale, I stopped in once a month at the county health clinic and used their scale. It was nice because the nurses were around to encourage me and applaud the good readings. :)
  • Have fun!
  • There are some pretty good, "chair work-outs" on You-tube for while you let your ligaments heal. I tore my ACL and MCL a few years ago at the same time that I broke my femur and tibia. The ligaments took longer to heal than the bones, so try to be patient with yourself. Also remember that protein is the great healer so eat…
  • Your diary looks like you are keeping meticulous accounts. I can't imagine why you aren't losing weight. In the past, I've followed 1200 calories a day and was still losing about a pound a week even after a year. Like you, I started at about 200 lbs and went down to 140 (10 stone) in that year. My only exercise was a 30…
  • I'll stay within 1200 calories on Christmas Day because it's a day when I'll be a little stressed out by cooking for the extended family. If I'm going to indulge myself, it will be after it's all over, the decorations are down, the house is clean and I can relax and enjoy the splurge. Probably December 29th or about.
  • Another Buckeye here. I don't like to have to fight the wind, rain, snow, or summer heat waves. That's why I've always preferred indoor workouts. I love the workout DVD's whether it's Leslie Sansone or some other type, those workouts are timed for me, paced along with music to keep me at a good cardio level, don't require…
  • I would much rather read an interesting rant than a smug little statement that starts with a derisive "erm." "Cheat meal," is a term long used in magazines and diet books to refer to a day planned to go off your diet and eat whatever looks good. I agree that it's not a good term. A few alternative suggestions: Free Day.…
  • I want to party with you, buddy. I didn't think anyone loved dip like I do.
  • Every post on a thread doesn't have to answer the OP does it? Can't we have a naturally flowing conversation where we talk to the other posters as well?
  • I hear you Midwesterne, I have a large appetite, too. I can easily eat half a pie in one day along with three large meals and a gigantic bedtime snack running from about 7PM till the post prandial stupor sends me off to bed. So no, no cheat days, planned re-feeds, maintenance practice, curve replacement meals, or anything…
  • Oh I know it can be done. Many times I've gone to a party and stopped after only one small piece of cake and friends have been know to offer me a piece from their box of assorted chocolates while I've managed to stop myself from wrestling them to the floor and stealing the whole box. I just find life easier at home, if I…
