  • I take golden milk. I love it, and it really helps my voice! I'm a teacher and a singer and I need my voice. I read somewhere to use it for that and it works like a charm.
  • Hello all! We moved to a new (to us) house, the 18 year old cat promptly disappeared, and the scale won't budge... life!! Blessings to all.
  • Checking in. Tomorrow we move into a house we bought. Painting and packing are definitely harder at 55 than when we were in our 30s!! But right now I'm in the best shape I've been in for years so that helps a lot. Turning 50 was really difficult for me, not because of the number - - I was actually kind of proud to have…
  • Mallie, what helps me is knowing that these days are part of life and it's okay. "This too shall pass." Good for you for showing up. Let us know how the day goes. ❤️ KJ, sorry about your sister.
  • I have struggled with both for years, but with all the protein I am eating it got really bad lately. Two nights ago I decided to double my magnesium dosage from 100mg/2x day to 200mg/2x day (chelated). Literally overnight, things changed!! I had soft bm for the 1st time in weeks. Today is the same. I am hoping it…
  • I was on Omeprazole for a few years and decided I needed to get off. I weaned off over several weeks and have been off it for a few months now. I mostly have it under control but do hit the Tums now and again. The thing that stuck out to me with your "bland diet" is the prevalence of complex carbohydrates. These are the…
  • I live in Nigeria. My banned food list is things like dog, rat, or monkey meat. I also don't care for termites and grasshoppers. In the south of Nigeria, they serve up big fat grubs, and that's gonna be a no for me as well. I've eaten cow skin many times (similar to water chestnuts!), porcupine, antelope. I'm pretty game…
  • Thanks. I just wanted to be sure. I didn't pay attention to protein and it cost me time and effort... The only time I really "need" carbs is for migraine recovery. They are like opium then!!
  • Just saw this. I rest as much as possible, avoid loud sound and bright lights, pray, eat carbs, but no sugar; drink a lot of water. The projects I have going, I at least look at, even if I can't do anything. That way when I feel better, I don't feel like I am beginning from scratch.
  • Rita, this is loads better than "fine" when it's not fine. Transparency is a strength in marriage. Hugs to you. Lost another hard-won pound, yay!! So I watched Lady Gaga's Super Bowl performance. And I was amazed not so much by her leap of eternal glory, but by the fact that she SANG the whole thing, she was NOT lip…
  • I live in Nigeria, and culturally it is a compliment to tell someone they are getting fat. I put on about 20 lbs when we were in the US for a few months, so when I came back I was subjected to plenty of compliments. "Wow! You've gotten HUGE!!" LOL.
  • My goals for 2017 : Yoga 5+ times a week HIIT workouts 2x week Weights, abs, or other cardio 2x week Lose 24 more pounds Handle migraines better (as in, recover faster) 7 hours of sleep per night Finish my Masters online! ❤️❤️❤️
  • Hi all! I only have time to check in here every few days and there are over 1000 new posts. I cannot possibly catch up with all of them! I wanted to share that I have been waking up in the morning with little to no back or joint pain lately. THIS IS A GIGANTIC THING FOR ME. I credit the yoga and exercise, and answered…
  • As we lose fat, it comes off all over. I also have basically no butt, and of course that's where the inches come off fastest rather than my waist, which is where I want it to come off!! Squats of all kinds are great. Bridge and warrior poses in yoga are good. Google "butt-building" excercises and see what works for you. I…
  • I think it's great that you are doing what you can in your situation. Maximize your 10 minutes with high intensity intervals (indoors). When you go out for walks with your son, let him explore. Trust me, before you know it he'll be 25 and you'll treasure those memories!! Or, put him on your shoulders for a horsey ride, if…
  • Suddenly I lost 2 lbs. Yayyyyyy!! Although I am doing my best with logging, it will never be a perfect science, I'm sure. Right now my plan is to stay at 1200 cal/day for a few more days, then go back to the pound per week target (which was in the neighborhood of 1400). I really want my loss to be sustainable. Amazon does…
  • Just checking in. I am down 4 lbs and feeling pretty on top of things! I am getting by on 1200 calories, but I admit that most days I eat exercise calories back... Well I'm only on 1200 as a kickstart, I can't maintain that long term. Reading about all the snow... my husband and I moved to Nigeria as missionaries 10 years…
  • Thank you, jprewitt. I also lowered my calorie goal to 1200/day to see if I can get over that cliff (lol) and lose something. But it may not be realistic for me. Yesterday was fine, today is ok, tomorrow at work... we'll see how it goes! Btw, anything under 130 and I begin to look skeletal, which is not the look I am going…
  • Thanks for the usable information, Alyssa! I had to look up PCOS. Here's the deal with me. I am 54, 5'6, 168 lbs. Overweight but not obese. I do exercise, but not a ton-- I try to get in 3 20-30 minute workouts, steady state or HIIT, a week. I do 10-15 minutes yoga daily (to help with chronic pain). I gained a lot of…
  • Thanks so much for all the snarkage, I believe I have got my daily quota in. I came in to this thread because I have been on a plateau. As far as I can tell, I have entered data accurately. So what do I do next? Is it advisable to lower my calorie target so I don't get that terrible warning about not eating enough…
  • I love reading everyone's stories and may try to work up my own! For now I am an empty nester, 3rd grade teacher, I live in Jos, Nigeria with my missionary husband. I am about 27 lbs overweight. Really I am focusing on health. I have always carried a few extra pounds but menopause really did me in. I was in a car accident…
  • Rita from CT: Sorry for a downer day. Something that helps me is telling myself it is okay to feel that way. Anyone who lives this long has plenty of reasons to feel sad now and again. It will pass. I feel more positive about this year than I have for several years! I should finish my masters at the same time both my kids…
  • As a teacher, moving around is not the challenge. It's finding Time to really exercise. The only way I have been really successful while school is in session is to work out in the mornings! I am up around 5, start the coffee, and do yoga and /or HIIT workouts 10 to 20 minutes. I need the yoga for chronic pain, and the…
  • Hi ladies! I am feeling self-congratulatory as I have lost 2 lbs in spite of the holidays! At the same time I am suspicious that these are the same 2 lbs I have lost and regained for the past 3 years... however, staying with MFP should help. Now that I have better Internet and a better phone, it will be easier. Having just…
  • dpdora, portions are my downfall as well, especially when I am tired in the evenings! I do best when I make myself pay attention to portion size. Also, my husband loves to snack after dinner and I have to keep telling myself NO!! I have always had half the metabolism he does. Something else I struggle with... it is often…
  • GritSand, I think when I hit 183 it was because #1 I was in America, land of ice cream, and #2, had recently had a traumatic experience and a painful injury with a long recovery. So losing the 13 lbs was not that difficult. I was hoping getting off the hormones would allow me to begin losing weight again, but no such luck.…
  • Hi! So glad to find this thread. I am 54 and after menopausing a few years ago I packed on 30 lbs (I was 183, the most I had ever been outside of pregnancy!!). I managed to lose 13, but have been stuck for about 2 years. I am trying to be positive and say I am "maintaining" (lol) although I would love to get back to 145 or…
  • I injured my shoulders last year doing too much Yoga (yes, you read that right) and my rotator cuffs were garbage (dressing and driving were agony). 5 months of PT did nothing for me. I bought Jim Johnson's Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff and within a few weeks started feeling waaay better. If you don't want to buy the book…
