  • Surely your clothes are starting to fit differently too. Our eyes lie to us. I learned that years ago when I found a pic of myself at 13, slim, healthy, perfect-- and I thought I was FAT... Let your body prove you wrong!
  • Watch your protein intake. You need the protein to make all that lovely muscle, or you are wasting time.
  • Two weeks on, it's now the opposite. 20 minutes of interval exercises yields only 68 calories burned. I do not get it. I would probably send it back, but it is very valuable for heart rate and sleep information, as well as steps.
  • Sheesh. I'm still trying to break a 10 minute mile here. Lol Can you explain how to do this like I'm Grandma on the phone? I'm still figuring out how to start a workout record (I did get the "run" app to work today!)
  • I guess I do need to give the device more time to learn my habits-- just fired it up day before yesterday. I do have a measured walk/run and can check what distance it's giving me credit for. Thanks for your help, heybales!
  • Her age being 91, she may be suffering dementia. Or maybe she is just a toxic person! Either way, it has nothing to do with you. You really do have amazing skin and lovely big eyes. Try to love and forgive Grandma, for your own sake. Then go out and buy yourself a really great coat that you chose and that looks great on…
  • Here is my encouragement: I'm 55 and have lost 28 lbs. If I can do it, it should be a piece of cake for you! I love the way I look and feel! I have energy, and clothes look good on me! People tell me I look great! I look and feel 10 years younger. It has been totally worth the effort, every mile I huffed and puffed, every…
  • I was where you are, for a few months. Recently I lost a couple more pounds, FINALLY, which was weird because we were traveling and I was not really logging accurately, sometimes not completing my diary, and not able to exercise normally. Here is what I think, based on the last year of ups and downs and losing 28 lbs and…
  • Do you want to lose weight? Then exercise, diet, and lose weight. Do you not care if you're obese? Then enjoy life as it is. But clearly, since you posted here, you sense a need for advice, so here's mine: Love yourself the way you are. Exercise and become strong and healthy. You will feel better, and your relationships…
  • I don't plan a cheat day or meal. Once in a while someone will be serving up ice cream or something, and I'll have a small portion and figure the day is not a weight loss day, oh well, tomorrow is another day and I don't beat myself up.
  • Cute picture!! This month we are trying to get our son started on his new life in another city. It's not easy! He just graduated college so finding an entry-level job where he can actually eat food and pay rent and pay off his student loans... ugh. When I was his age I wound up homeless more than once, and would…
  • @alc649, what a great way to redirect your attention away from the eating! Journaling is such an amazing thing.
  • @hfordchat1993, you lost 10 lbs!!! That is great! I would suggest that you make a plan for eating out. #1 Choose menu items that have less calories and carbs. For example, get the stir fry and forego the rice. If you just really need those fries, maybe get the burger without a bun, and a small fries. #2 Plan to make 2…
  • @jessiquoi, thanks for starting this thread! This is what it's all about for me. I took a good look at the rest of my life last December and decided that if I didn't want to spend it fat and achey, then I better get busy and change my ways! What a difference it makes! Logging my food and exercise on MFP has made me more…
  • blakejohn, how do you "trick the body"? interested. I started in December and have gone from 170 to 153.4. In the last few weeks all I do is go up and down and back up. I am exercising more than ever and try to be conservative when logging the burn. I know there is a lot of inaccuracy due to eating a lot of food others…
  • Slowly. Not as fast as MFP promises me every day when I complete my diary. But I am progressing, just need patience. Most days I exercise and eat the calories back because it's hard sticking to 1200 calories.
  • Vacation Bible School this week and I'm with the preschool kids, a treat for me since my children are grown. I've had to get smaller pants and today bought a pair of jeans at Goodwill. They are size 6! I'm sure it's a fluke, but it makes me feel happy. :)
  • It still depends on the day. Today was good. Some days I feel like I'm running through molasses. Other days I am like Hallelujah!!
  • Ah yes, like bowsontoes said: better sleep! I've about forgotten insomnia!!
  • Since I am on sabbatical, and sitting around a lot more than when I am teaching in a classroom every day, I just set my activity level to "sedentary" and it gave me a 1200 calorie goal to lose .9 lbs/week. I've gained 5 lbs since leaving teaching, so I am trying a lower calorie goal. But yes, #1 it's extremely difficult to…
  • Hi, I'm new to this forum although I've been on MFP for some time. I've been thinking about my nsvs a lot because it encourages me to press on although I've yoyo-ed back 5 pounds! Ugh!! Anyway... Since I began exercising, I wake up some mornings without pain, and actually ENJOY laying in bed for a few minutes! I can keep…
  • Keep trying and weighing in and give it a few weeks. If you're not losing fast enough, exercise more. Don't reduce calories overly much and end up torpedoing your metabolism (been there, done that)!
  • Hello ladies! Not even sure I checked in with the group in April because the month was crazy. I finished my Master's thesis, which was approved thank you very much! I am a teacher and have to finish up the school year early so we can fly back to the US and watch both our son and daughter graduate college!!! Also we've been…
  • All of the above, Sean! I realized some time ago that in my crazy life, food was one of the few things I have control over. So, for that few minutes I was eating, I had a sense of control. That became addictive. I also realized that I can turn that around. Since I am in control when I am eating, I can control what and how…
  • I tried lowering my calorie goal to 1200 and my metabolism crashed. By that I mean, I felt like crud and became very constipated. When I raised it back up to 1380 (or a 1 lb./week weight loss goal) I got off my plateau and started losing weight again. I've gotten stuck a couple of times and for me, reducing calories more…
  • I was using low-dose bc in lieu of hrt, which is unavailable where I live in West Africa, for 5 years. I stopped last summer because I experienced a spike in migraines, and was hoping it would help. I didn't lose weight until I decided to rejoin MFP in December and started exercising harder than before. Since December I've…
  • Originally from Connecticut... now in Jos, Nigeria!
  • I agree that we ought not be taking a laxative or stool softener daily, but I can see where someone would get to that place without realizing... the mag chelate I take is a food supplement (like taking calcium). If I forget to take it, I'm not suffering drastically. I still get bound up occasionally, but I am the most…
  • Keep the kind of snacks ready in the fridge that will not blow your calorie count, and give you the protein you need: carrot sticks, cucumber slices, boiled eggs, turkey slices, apples, orange sections, celery, and so on. Even the 9 year old goes to bed at some point, right? Take some time in the evening to prepare for the…
  • Checking in. I am amazed when I read through your posts, amazed at you. ❤️ For me, March Madness means Field Day at school, report cards, student-led conferences, concluding my research implementation phase of my masters thesis, and (Hallelujah!) spring break at last! Not to mention that we moved at the beginning of the…
