Going to eye doctor in a.m. for evaluation of my enormous floater - seeing retinal specialist to be sure it's just a vitreous thing and to see if ANYTHING can be done. It drives me crazy. Evaluation will take 3-4 hours and will probably be exhausting. Then we take granddaughter and her outdoor kitty to vet for shots and tests. Hoping for healthy outcome for her beloved kitty, who has had no vet care for several years.

What an adorable little one! Hope all goes well with the floater evaluation. I have several and you are right that they are so annoying especially in bright light. I sent you an email re: visit in VA.

Leigh in France: We're hoping to see our son for a little while today before he has to go back to the east coast. I miss having him near enough that we can see him frequently. It had been nearly a year since we last saw him when we visited Virginia. The time we spent a few days ago was golden. Every minute is something I treasure and I'm hoping for some minutes today.
Lanette: DH has an ipad and it is his best assistant. He reads books on it, chats with family, and stays in touch with what is important to him. I just asked him and he says he simply deletes objectionable pop-ups. I don't seem to have issues on my laptop. I wonder what it is that makes the ipads so much more vulnerable.
Felicia: We've enjoyed Washington State ferry rides over the years but have never taken the one from Bremerton to Seattle. I don't think it is on our short list of things to do now. DH is having so much trouble with motion sickness that he won't even walk down the boat ramp to stand on our dock.
Heather: We tried really hard to like quinoa because it is a nutrition powerhouse, but it just doesn't please us. I feel like I'm trying to eat bird seed and don't like it. I love brown rice and sweet potatoes, though. :flowerforyou:
Karen: Sending good thoughts for your pup. Our DDIL has a 16 year old pound pup that has been the constant companion she needs for years. Our son has to travel for his job frequently and Sammy is always there for her. I often think of our dogs as guardian angels.
Re: You are doing great. Onederland is a nice place to be.
Tere in RVA: You are beautiful, now and in the past. :flowerforyou:
Becca: I hope your trip to Boardman goes well.
Ginger: The boot/sandals are hilarious. Thanks for sharing!
Chris in MA: Prayers heading your way. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I'm going hunting for Heather's YouTube clip. I am curious about it. It seems to have helped you put things into perspective and that is very good for you.
I had a late meeting last night and although I'm tired, I couldn't stay in bed and get the rest I need. Hoping to hold things together today. There may be a nap in the near future for me.

Hello, Stylish Sisters!
Cheri – Hi Sugar! How you doing?
Hugs for Everybody!
Re in TX
Hi Re! So glad to see ya here again!
Things are really good at the moment. Seemed to have found my happy place finally. Took a bit but I got there and am not letting anyone take it away! Weight loss has been slow in terms of the number on the scale. Keep reminding myself it's just a number and I am on a journey. Eating well, working out well, mental health on course! I keep busy with my book clubs, crocheting and quilting for Project Linus, doing the homemaker thing and other random events that pop up. Enjoy having our son live nearby and seeing him on occasion and getting to know him better in his young adulthood. So much of his youth was focused on his sister that this time together is precious! Our daughter in Va is doing quite well and we will be visiting her at the end of the month. And getting to see Karen in VA. The hubs was given an unprecedented promotion (for being employed less than a year) and a salary increase that is greatly appreciated. He is happy which is good all around for this family.
Thanks for asking Re in TX! I read posts twice a day on here so am following everyone's journey! So proud of so many of you. Very blessed to have you in my life. The hubs always asks "How are the ladies doing today?!".

Karen in VA – I too have a huge floater…when it happened (and it was sudden) about 5 years ago, my optometrist told me there was a procedure where the vitreous liquid is replaced with saline. At subsequent appointments, he said they often do resolve – or perhaps permanently settle. I think mine has to some extent. Driving in the dark, especially rainy nights, was the pits as vision in that eye was terrible. Since retiring, I don’t have to drive in those conditions but I notice I don’t have to “blink it out of the way” when reading or staring at the computer screen like I used to. Good luck and please let us know what you find out. SO HAPPY you get more time with Farley! Olivia looks so healthy and happy, I want to kiss those chubby cheeks!
Tere – totally, totally gorgeous photo. Your soup sounds delicious, hope you can find an easy alternative for the folks who don't like shellfish.
Joyce, glad Mr. M is doing better – excited for you about the landscaper coming next week! Make sure to post pictures!!
Pip – cute photo of you kids.
Chris – prayers going out your way for a good outcome.
Dr. Katiebug – Amazing that mirror didn’t break, glad you could get it rescued.
RE – so great you are still going downward! You have definitely formed healthy habits and like you said, health is more important than being a supermodel. I think you look marvelous!!
Felicia – don’t blame you a bit for not wanting to drive in Seattle. Next time I go there I plan to take the train. It will be good to have your boys back! Boy, I don’t blame you for wishing you’d had those teeth pulled. Hope your dentist gives painless shots; I dread that more than the procedures.
Barbie – it will be so nice to get your pups this morning and back into your routine. Good news on Jake and using the cellphone for the pacemaker to “talk to HQ”. I’m with you on wearing shorts.
Regarding shorts, I sometimes wear loose gym shorts around the house and yard or for walks in the summer, but won’t wear them to town. It’s either sweats (which is dressed up for our Walmart!) or jeans – pressed jeans if working or going to meetings. First, I don’t have any shorts that fit well. Second, I too don’t like the feel of the backs of my knees/calves on furniture-scratchy, hot, sweaty = icky. Third, I keep forgetting to shave my legs. Ah, retirement!
Regarding my computer woes, it’s only this old Dell laptop that is having issues and it might be related to the fact that I upgraded Windows Explorer a while back. DH fiddled with it yesterday and it looked like that annoying newsfeed had been eliminated. It’s back this morning. I’ve found a temporary way around it. I might have DH uninstall Windows and install Linux or another open source operating system and ditch Explorer and install Firefox. I already have “Open Office” rather than MS Office on one of the old computers in our office and it’s perfectly fine for my needs and works well with Windows documents and spreadsheets.
When DH did landscaping in Seattle, he actually worked on Bill Gates' parents place. He and the crew used to amuse themselves by going thru their trash. Found girly magazines and such. He said Bill Sr. was a pompous *kitten* but mom Mary was a darling and would bring them iced tea when it was hot. DH should write a book.
OK ladies, lots to do today.
Lanette
Cool (45 this morning!) SW WA State. Love the cool nights and daily highs in the upper 70’s! No rain in sight.

Karen in Virginia – Olivia’s eyes are so dark; like our youngest granddaughter’s. It will be interesting to see her when her hair comes in. All 3 of my granddaughters were born with a head full of hair. So, unless I see pink or a bow on a baby, I rarely assume it is a boy. My oldest had a head full of hair; DYS had hair, just not a whole lot of it; but, by the time we cut it the first time, he had a head full and it curled up on the ends. He also had a black eye when he had his year-old picture. Had fallen against the FP hearth; but, the photographer was able to feather it and cover most of it; but, it is still quite visible.
Joyce – I haven’t found a pause button, yet – and DOGD called last night and said, she had cried because the realization that graduation is in December and she doesn’t know what to do. She had to make her own MD appointment yesterday and had never done that. I find it hard to believe she’s gone 4 years between her physical for college. Said they ought to teach students how to make appointments, do a budget, learn how to use a checkbook, named off so many things that over years we’ve learned. Worried about her boyfriend and taking the necessary tests to get in the PT school. That’s the ‘next’ biggie in their lives.
Ginger – Guess I won’t be able to bring my cowboy boots. Just can see this happening.
Allie – Sorry you’re sick; but, with all the stress you’ve been going through, you probably got sick because your immune system was low.
WOW! That link that Lanette sent was TomCat personified. RUN!!!!!
Heather – I will I could have liposuction on my thighs; but, that isn’t going to happen, so I guess I will just have to live with the lumpiness. The shorts I bought yesterday are longer and look better than the short-shorts I wear on weigh-in day. They are not very comfortable (the short-shorts); but if I wore regular shorts they’d probably make me weigh more. Wearing them is about as close as I can get to wearing nothing at all.

I've thought about buying a cheap pair of boots from a thrift shop and trying to create the boot/sandal - just for kicks.4

Cute picture!!
This month we are trying to get our son started on his new life in another city. It's not easy! He just graduated college so finding an entry-level job where he can actually eat food and pay rent and pay off his student loans... ugh. When I was his age I wound up homeless more than once, and would rather not see him go through that.
I've been on a yoyo with weight for a few weeks. Focusing on non-scale victories. I really do feel and look better than I have in a long time, so I am okay with that.7 -

I have been on a "diet" my entire life it seems, but now that I am single AND an empty-nester, I have no one to point the finger out for my fails except me. This should be a lot easier than it is, but now I have the excuse of loneliness and "It's too hard to cook for one" as a new excuse. I have been making small life-style changes and it is paying off....50 pounds over a 2 year period, but some days the struggle is real!8

Start with baby steps--log your food, find a few meals that you like and have them frequently, seek opportunities to be active, get to know us on this thread and share your journey.

Becca: It was a hard thing when my son went off to the Army, and he made the choice to join when he was past 25. I'm sure this will not be an easy transition for you, but I don't recommend getting pregnant again so your nest won't be empty. :noway: Just teasing. It will be a gradual process, but you and DH have a chance to have some adventures together. I hope you will choose something fun and get started right away. Going to our son's graduation from basic, and going back for his graduation from Special Forces School were good things for us. They helped us see how good this life choice was for him, and we felt much happier seeing him happy. It also gave us a little adventure.
Ginger: Your son is a cutie. I don't much like the cowboy boots with shorts, but the dislike is all based on my feeling that the boots would irritate bare legs. I imagine how I would feel and I don't think I'd like it. :flowerforyou:
trishayla: Losing 50 pounds over a 2 year time period is a great accomplishment. It is much healthier than yoyo dieting or starving and making yourself sick. Congratulations on a job well done. Do you have a goal weight in mind? Stop by here often for encouragement and support.
DS will be stopping by this afternoon on his way north. He has some things to do at the base at Fort Lewis and will fly back to Virginia where he is currently stationed. We'll miss him but his wife will be happy to have him back.

Lanette – Speaking of ‘pressed’ jeans; reminds me of my former/late boss who sent his jeans to the cleaners (whose parents lived next door to him for a while), so he would have a crease down the front and back and wore them with no socks and boat shoes. He always looked well put together (even with his beer gut).
I had a hysterectomy at 35; so I don’t have much body hair; I think I ‘have’ to shave once a month and that is usually only when it is hot and I would be wearing shorts or a bathing suit (which I have not had on this summer).
Ginger – my DYS will wear short with his work boots; which are just a little shorter than these cowboy boot and solid brown. He can pull it off, mainly because he walks with a swagger and that is more of what you see when you look at him. I’ve got 2 great-looking sons, if I do say so myself.
Meredith – Our DOGD called us last night after making her first MD appointment, on her own. She graduates in December and said it has just become all too real for her now. I told her ‘welcome to being an adult’. She said she thought schools (HS and college) should have classes to prepare, first in HS what to expect in college; 2nd from college to prepare them for going out into the ‘real world’. I told her, even if she had to cut class, she really needed to go to a ‘job fair’ that usually get put on every semester. She agreed. Her boyfriend is going to be taking the ‘test’ that will allow him to get into PT school. There are 3 in the state beside UGA, which he doesn’t want to go to because of its size.
Becca – Enjoy the next 2 weeks while baby boy is still home. He will be a ‘different man’ the next time he comes home as he was as a ‘boy/teenage child’. You’ll be very proud of him, I am sure. I cried a lot when my DYS went off to college (although I was working at the time); same when he transfer ‘out of state’ to Mississippi State; I got tired of crying so I just enjoy the few times I get to see him. When we go out, it will have been a full year since I have seen him and his family.
Katla – I have a pair of cowboy boots, and surprisingly, they are my most comfortable shoes I have to my name.
