OP, haven't read through the whole thread but your daily diet looks a little carb rich.

Right. Thanks, God.

Looking at your diary (do you only eat 2 meals per day?) I'd say ease further off the sugar and up the protein.

This is a really inspiring story. Running is grown-up playing. You don't need a system, a routine or a plan. You can just get your shoes on and go and run where you like. Yes - you are "doing it right" :-)

I find that fast, technical mountain biking is a great core workout. Road biking much less so. Are you bunny hopping drain covers and stuff like that? Because that will engage your abs. I wish my road rides gave me an abs workout :-)

The ideas on this thread are amazing. Thanks everyone

I chose my goal weight from the BMI chart. It is the weight that will take me below "overweight" and into "normal". If I manage to get down to this weight, I expect to want to go on and lose more, but for now I'm starting with the basic goal "to not be overweight".

Wow. Thanks all for the warm welcome. I'm touched by the overwhelming and encouraging response from all my new friends on MFP. :D :D :D Just kidding. I guess some threads just get lost in the crush. Good luck to you all.

But you're 7ft tall, right?

Bypassing the cadence discussion for a second (I've already commented on that) your post is really about your plateauing cycling performance. To see improvement, you need to *kitten* your legs up, let them recover for a few days, then go and *kitten* them up again. Find new routes, go further, go steeper, go higher, enter…

It sounds like you are treating cadence as a performance goal in its own right. This is a distraction. You don't win the TdF by being the person who can spin their legs the fastest. If your cadence is in the 60-70 range then personally I would change down a gear to get the legs moving faster, unless I was specifically…

Hi mate, Ironman here. It's well achievable providing you actually like cycling, because the race is all about that. When I raced my Ironman I was overweight (175cm height, 84kg weight). Looking at your 2014 pic, I've seen bigger guys than that racing long course. Add me if you like and good luck
