  • I saw these on Torokhtiy website: https://torokhtiy.com/collections/accessories/products/self-adhesive-thumb-tape. I was just worried about the tape coming off, plus I would have to keep buying more once I ran out. My gym bans chalk because it makes a big mess. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will look into buying…
  • I think people regain the weight after losing it because they go back to the same behavior and eating habits they had at a higher weight, not because their RMR is reduced to the point where they start gaining weight. Also, people who lose weight will experience a reduction in their RMR. This is normal and expected because…
  • I ask myself, What is better, going for a 20 minute walk or sitting on the couch? What is better, having a bowl of ice cream that puts me 300 over my calories, or having a bowl of ice cream, 3 servings of tortilla chips, chocolate, and cookies that puts me 1,000 over my calories? Basically, what is the best I can do in…
  • https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/69/6/1189/4714941 In response to those who lose weight have screwed up metabolisms: RESULTS: A stepwise multiple regression found lean mass, fat mass, age, and sex to be the best predictors of RMR in both groups. After adjusting RMR for these variables, we found no significant…
  • Only during a flare up.
  • I think this is good advice. Drink lots (8+ cups) of water may help with constitution. It maybe helpful just to use a pen and paper notebook so you can write down not only what you eat, but times and how you felt as well. I think MFP has a way to do this but I personally find pen/paper easier. Whatever works for you.
  • I am on my phone so formatting may be screwed up. 1st, CO takes into account hormones, exercise, lack of sleep, cortisol, thyroid, thermoelectric of food etc. 2nd, there was a study from the National Weight Control Registery comparing the BMR of obese individuals who lost weight to lean individuals of similiar weights who…
  • OP just to clarify do you have ulcererative colitis or Crohn's? Has this been diagnosed by a doctor and if so are you having a flare up or are recovering from a flare up? I do plant based but not strict vegan. My diary is open. I like The No Meat Athlete cookbook and want to get the How Not To Die cookbook next.
  • Are you using a food scale?
  • I appreciate those articles and I did learn some new things. However, I do not see an issue with someone using acupuncture as a way to treat their back pain or other condition if they feel that it helps them and it is not harming them. If someone tells me they had so much back pain but started doing acupuncture and the…
  • I don't know about ayurvedic medicine or hemopathy but acupuncture is not quackery. It has been shown to help treat pain. If I was in pain, I would rather try acupuncture first before pain medications. https://nccih.nih.gov/health/acupuncture/introduction#hed3
  • I am a dietitian, mine is open. I am 5'6" and weigh between 144-149, depending on how much I ate that day and time of month.
  • I think by fixating only on low or high carbohydrate without taking nutritional composition into account, you are missing out on the big picture. I don't consider 20 grams carbohydrate from fruit to be the same as 20 grams of carbohydrate from pop. (In terms of nutrition, not talking about calories.) By focusing only on…
  • It appears 20 fl oz of Dr. Pepper has 250 calories and there are 510 calories in a venti caramel frappuccino, which is 24 fl oz. So if my math is correct you were drinking 24 ounces of frappuccino and betweeen 64-76 ounces of Dr. Pepper, totaling between 1,310-1,460 calories a day in addition to your regular meals?
  • I like beans/lentils. Much cheaper then meat. I am not strictly plant based but have been trying to move in that direction. I will be interested to see my cholesterol at my next lab draw.
  • I know for me it took 3 months before I noticed my shoulders looked leaner. 6 months before my stomach looked tighter. This was working out 5 days a week, 30-60 minutes of weights (squats, deadlifts, lunges) on some days, upper body other days, yoga, or just walking on the treadmill. And about a month to lose it all when I…
  • She seems like she is eating well balanced meals that are appropriate portion sizes. I think her approach is great.
  • How long have you been using MyFitness Pal? Are you using a food scale?
  • Mediterranean diet and tracking everything I eat. Also trying to stop eating in front of the computer/TV because I always end up going back for 2nds...then 3rds...
  • From my understanding of the show, they go right back to environment that caused all the weight gain in the first place. On the show, are they given tools to be successful like lessons how to meal plan/cook, how to correctly determine portions and track calories, how to manage stress in a positive manner, etc? Or just a…
  • The recommended blood sugar ranges for a diabetic are 80 to 130 fasting, which is no eating or drinking (water is ok) for at least 8 hours. If you have eaten a meal, your blood sugar should be less then 180 after 1-2 hours. Source:…
  • MyFitness Pal is primarily for nutrition, which is why many people will talk optimizing nutrition. I am not sure where you live, but in my country, we have an epidemic of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, among other chronic diseases. Many of these diseases could be prevented and possibly reversed if people began…
  • No, I would not do keto and I would not feel comfortable following that diet. Of course keto works for weight loss, as does anything that causes a calorie deficit. However, does keto prevent heart disease? Cancer? I haven't seen any research showing that it can prevent these diseases. In fact, I saw a study that a diet…
  • OP, I read an interesting article the other day comparing metabolisms between those with PCOS, those without PCOS, and those with PCOS and insulin resistance. The average metabolism of someone without PCOS: 1,868 +/- 41 kcal/day The average metabolism in someone with PCOS: 1,590 +/- 130 kcal/day The average metabolism in…
  • What kind of workout will you be doing? Some of my quick snacks before a longer (30+ minute) workout include: 1 banana (90-130 grams) 28 grams of nuts with 20 grams of dried fruits like raisins or cranberries 6 triscuits with 28 grams of cheese 1 apple (130-160 grams) protein bar
  • Ok can someone check my math but OP I think your BMI is 22.7. Why are you trying to lose weight, and how much more weight are you trying to lose?
  • A few ideas: 1. This was an idea I read from "The Hungry Brain." Unfortunately, people tend to think of their future self as an abstract. Trying to think about yourself in the future in the present can help. So, picture yourself in 3 months. Picture what you look like, what you are wearing, where you are. The more detail,…
