I consider myself a recreational bicycling enthusiast. I am selective about the bike paths/trails that I use due to personal safety concerns. I bike on urban paths with a bicycle club and on those particular trails, it is the only way I would. I would not consider bicycling on vehicle roadways. The concept of "share the…

I've seen this floating around on FB too. Now if it really happened . . . Well. It doesn't matter because we didn't "consume" a lot of resources, as illustrated in this story. I think most of us were pretty happy with what we had without feeling as though we were short changed or "making do" with less. Every time I see a…

Hello alpine dog, My husband and I split our time between South Carolina and Blue Hill Maine (about 40 minutes from Acadia, "downeast"). We kayak in Acadia and along Eggimoggin Reach and Peter's Cove in and around Blue Hill. We cycle (me mostly), hike and of course, kayak. While we are in Maine we enjoy working the garden,…

I regularly log and my approach is about healthy living, not just weight mgt. I'm retired and very active -- cycling, kayaking and hiking. I eat veggies and drink gin and tonic. Old hammer knees that's me.

I used to be from Conn. My family owned Backes Fireworks in Wallingford. I'm here for motivation and support. I log daily and encourage my friends to find the best route to healthy living, not just weight loss.

An NSV for me is just going a tad faster on my bike. I've gone from avg 8 mpr when I started, to averaging 9 mpr, and my goal is to avg 10 mpr. Incremental accomplishments for me, slow and steady.

where does he say that?

Hi gridiron mom, I'm not plant based but I like seeing different menu options (except way too low calories!) . I'm here daily and follow a modest program of eating well and staying active (cycling, kayaking, hiking/walking). If you want to add me, I'm here!

And she spent "months" eating "below 800 calories a day."

When we are in Maine we live about 15 minutes from The Wooden Boat School. I have visited several times and know a couple of people from work who had built a boat. I'd love to try a project like that, like a dingy or punt. That's about my speed! Thanks for the welcome!

I've been on MFP for awhile, but I just added this group. I want to lose 20lbs and reduce my BF%. I am also looking for a cycling buddy. I cycle about 25-30 miles daily, except in thunderstorms. I am not a performance biker, although I've improved my endurance and speed over the past two months. I have crappy knees so my…

Hello from the east coast. I'm retired and enjoy hiking, biking, and kayaking. Indoors stuff include reading, old films (Weimar silent era), and crafties. Love to travel and love Manhattan. Working on fitness and 23 lbs to loose. Add me if you would like.

Not a genuine SOuth Carolinian though, but here I am. Retired, enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking.

I'm retired and am very active. I hike, bike and kayak. Would appreciate an add by other active retirees.

If you'd like to add me, please do. I'm retired and have more time to be active and prepare meals wisely. I enjoy hiking, kayaking and cycling (20-25 miles daily). I'm 64 and want to lose 20 lbs

This is all good here. There are two books that have been quite helpful: "The Tools: Transform Your Problems into Courage, Confidence and Creativity," by Phil Stutz and "Feeling Good," by David Burns. these books won't "solve" stress or anxiety, but are excellent guides to systematically work and think through what ails…

I ruptured my Achilles early last summer and it required surgery immediately. I was in a weightless cast for 10 weeks, a boot for another 8, and on a cane for about 3 weeks. The "good" thing was I was so chicken about going up and down the exterior stair case of my condo (I'm in a second floor unit) that I lifted myself up…

This. my husband hasn't any need to reduce his weight (he's 5'8"/142 lbs). He has always had a sweet tooth, but I noticed this summer on his own initiative he's eating apples, oranges and now, pears. He still loves his cookies, but he doesn't choose them as often. In your husband's case, he'll come to terms with good…

Buffets are wasted on my DH and me too, and when we dine out we inevitably leave with leftovers. Honestly, since we retired and no longer live in the NY/NJ metro area within driving distance of relatives, we've minimized holiday eating and stress.

I'm with you, retirehappy. If you don't cook it, you don't eat it. My DH and I aren't into the traditional Thanksgiving feast anyway. I'm more vulnerable around Christmas, as that was always an important holiday in my family. My Mom passed a few years ago (three weeks shy of her 99th b day) and I am nostalgic for those…

My name is Jean. I am retired and enjoy outdoor activities, including road biking, and hiking. I am not a performance cyclist. I like it for fun and fitness. I live along the coast of Maine in the summer until mid November, then return to an island off of the coast of Charleston SC for the other part of the year. I'm 4'11"…
