  • Thanks for your answer. I've got a gym in mind that I am going to look at today. It's near work, so I'm hoping I can fit in 3 sessions a week (along with 2 children, working ridiculously long hours at work, and the 3 runs in already doing). You think 45 mins minimum time, then? I don't want to sign up and then find that I…
  • I started couch to 5k in October, having never done any running before. I am now running 5k twice each week, plus 10k every Sunday.
  • Yes I'm in the UK. Sounds like I need to visit wherever you are from to discover new types of cheese! Doubt that I'll ever find one as good as Blacksticks Blue though! :-D
  • Don't think we get sharp cheese here. I was just assuming that it meant mature? Confusing to have different names! Though I am easily confused!
  • Pepper jack sounds interesting. Not heard of that.
  • I love cheese, but I don't buy it often because I simply can't stop eating it. Blacksticks Blue is my favourite. Then Shropshire blue, blue Stilton, baked Camembert.... Ate loads of all of those on New Year's Eve, but I won't be buying any more until my birthday at the end of next month. In the meantime I eat low fat salad…
  • Mine is exactly the same as yours and is definitely a challenge to achieve each day! Not sure what it is based on, but it was the default.
  • Thanks for the replies. They don't really bother me. My motivation is mainly health, so my waist measurement is key. Just curious that the calves haven't changed at all. They are 40 cm.
  • I get up an hour earlier to run, and get home in time to wake everyone else up, then do a longer run on Sunday morning. Exercise bike before school on non- running days. Teaching plus my own children rules out the gym. I've just bought "you are your own gym" to give me ideas for more exercise at home - again, before anyone…
  • I'm having the same issue. Not lost anywhere near as much as you have (well done you!), but barely any difference in my waist measurement. One of my primary motives in losing weight is to reduce my diabetes risk ( family history), which increases with a waist measurement above 80cm. Right now I'm losing from just about…
  • I love mine. But the I love all the stats, and I find the challenges really motivating. I got mine, started couch to 5k and signed on to mfp at the same time. I've a long way to go but I'm feeling fitter, just signed up for some 10k races, and am nearly halfway to my (considerable!) weight loss goal, since the middle of…
  • I graduated just before Christmas and yesterday I signed up for two 10ks later this year. It was a fabulous programme. I couldn't believe how much progress I made in the 9 weeks. Good luck!
  • Yes I have the same problem. I was coming home from work ravenous and eating whatever I could lay my hands on, before making dinner. At the moment I am planning meals in advance and using the slow cooker whenever possible. In adding grains or rice to my lunchtime soup and taking extra food to school so I'm not coming home…
  • I tended to have a banana when I got back from a longer run, and then made fruit porridge. Starting c25k coincided with me starting mfp.
  • My right hand, foot etc is bigger than my left, but my left muffin top has always been bigger, no matter what my size!
  • Well, I may not have any new jeans for New Year's Eve, but I do have a new outfit, thanks to my shopping trip today!
  • And yes I have a long way to go. I'm not sure where "there" is yet, but I know that I'm not even half way there yet!
  • My trousers were DEFINITELY snug to start with, and are considerably looser now. I was in denial and refusing to buy any bigger clothes! My top half has always been smaller - even when I was young and ( relatively!) slim. I know that I will get there, but I am apple shaped and hold the extra weight around my middle. I'll…
  • Really interesting comments. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
  • My scales show a gain of several pounds this week, which I was completely expecting. I went over my calorie goal on 3 days, and was under a few days. I did loads of exercise, and I'm happy that I didn't over eat to a ridiculous amount, and I drank plenty of alcohol. Apart from New Year's Eve , when I will probably do the…
  • Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I've a few post-Christmas purchases to make!
  • Another one here. I've been using mfp and a Fitbit since October half term.
  • Had the Charge HR since October. Really keeps me motivated. I do lots of challenges, and these can make me feel quite competitive!!
  • Mince pie, brandy and a carrot for Rudolph . My children are too old to believe, but still left everything out last year, and Santa and Rudolph will be looking forward to the same this year. Christmas is magical, and even my cynical and grumpy teenage son will want to keep the tradition on Christmas Eve.
  • I've sent you a friend request.
  • Thank you for all the info. Lots for me to look into and to think about!
  • That makes a lot of sense, but due to work and child care commitments it's just not possible at the moment.
  • I've been vegetarian for 29 years, and for 10 of those I was vegan. I don't take any kind of supplements, and just aim to have some protein in most meals. I've never found it difficult, though I probably do read food labels more than some people do. When I became vegetarian in the 1980s there was very little pre made…
  • Thanks for the reply. I'm happy to buy some equipment, but probably a bit at a time until I decide whether it's for me. I'll have a look at the programmes you mentioned.
