What about the people initially motivated to make the changes who go away feeling like still-fat failures because they didn't lose quite as much as some people in the group? People who have weight to lose generally can't afford to lose self-esteem with it!

I'm glad for you as a human being that keto is working for you. However, let's be fair here. Yeah, the message may have been about "low fat, high carb, calorie restricted diets for the past 50-years" and people have been getting fatter, but have they got fat while following that advice?

Agreed, but if I'm reading right, he weighed, visited the toilet, and weighed again in a row. If the scales are working and that's what he did, I'd expect him to either be the same weight (because it was too small a change to register) or to be a little bit lighter.

You weighed more after going to the toilet? Any possibility the scales are faulty? I'd get some heavy things, close in weight, but of different weights, and do a bit of testing on the scales.

I think it's recommended because so many people have realised they have slight interoception issues (even if they don't know it's called that!) For example, for me, having a drink sometimes does help, if I'm just feeling a slight 'emptiness' because I'm bored. I suspect that's because I may get my thirst and hunger signals…
