  • yes, @stephencloser, that is the type of comment I am talking about. I can't develop a healthy relationship with them. Since you can, be happy about that. I can't develop a healthy relationship with wine either, but no one urges me to try.
  • Actually we aren't talking about Dr. Lustig, but Dr. Ludwig. I am going to go ahead and cut sugar, potatoes and processed foods out of my diet for 6 months anyway. I know a lot of you don't agree and to that I say- don't do it then! I spent two years off of sugar and flour and lost 79 pounds. So many people were bothered…
  • It just seems obvious to me that 200 calories in almonds vs. 200 calories in a doughnut will not have the same result in your body. It actually seems like people here agree on that so I don't really know what the issue is. Part of the idea is that if we eat 1400 calories worth of nutritionally dense, higher fat foods then…
  • I don't mind hearing criticism, I just wonder why everyone feels the need to offer that. Thanks for the tip, I'll look over in groups.
  • Why isn't it science? Isn't chronic inflammation real?
  • I'm not saying that everyone should stop counting calories. Go ahead and count them and eat whatever you want! I'm looking for someone who has read the book who might be interested in keeping in touch while we follow the guidelines.
  • So I'm looking for people who have read the book and are interested in discussing that, no point in discussing the book with people who haven't read it. There is plenty of science to back it up (written by a doctor, by the way, not a stick insect- was that a typo?).
  • Yes! I totally know what you mean. I've reset my calories on here to maintenance and am still logging so that I can keep track of what I eat and how I feel. I'm done with calorie counting. I'm all hyped up on a book called "Always Hungry" which (among other things) talks about the futility of calorie counting.
  • I drink seltzer water or club soda. I like the fizz of the soda but it has no calories.
  • Hi Karen- you are doing just what I intend to do! I'm sending a friend request. Keep it up!
  • That is great, keep it up!
  • OK, this is a really old post but I'll answer it anyway! I love roasted cauliflower, I substitute it for pasta. I know that sounds strange, but then I can enjoy the sauce on something that feels similarly chewy to me. I also like cauliflower simmered in chicken broth and then mashed with a bit of cream cheese stirred in.…
  • Welcome!
  • I'm trying to stick with a healthy diet- not this week as I'm eating what I am served at school- but generally. Add me if you like.
  • I think she means added sugar. There are plenty of reasons to avoid added sugar.
  • I am pretty much on the same path- a little more to lose- add me if you like! Kat
  • I'm a 49 year old mom with three kids (20, 18 and 11) and aiming to lose 50 pounds before I turn 50 in December. I want to spend the second half of my life working on something else besides my eating habits! Anyone who is looking to be supportive and interactive is welcome to friend me.
  • Congratulations! I didn't bother to try to lose weight before my wedding and I look back on that and wonder why. You've got a year and you are on your way. Good for you! I'm here for you.
  • If you think 200 is more realistic you could set that as your target weight and reassess when you get there. Good for you on your determination and success so far!
  • You've already gotten some great advice here. I have ADD too and find my impulsivity control to be lacking, which leads to binges. That, and I believe sugar and flour send me into a frenzy. I agree that you should go to the doctor for tests. Even if you have reasons why you don't think it will work, cut out flour and sugar…
  • I drink seltzer water and water all day. I rarely drink anything else. I don't log my water because I'm just lazy, I guess. I drink coffee with soy milk in the morning and log the soy milk but not the coffee. To be very precise I guess I should log the coffee as well, but I don't because it only has a few calories in it.…
  • Yes, I am familiar with shoveling the abundance of crap into myself. I'm on my way to losing 50 pounds, and this time I would like to stick with that and stay healthy. Feel free to add me if you'd like. Kat
  • Oh, and for motivation you could watch Sugar: The Bitter truth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM
  • Yes, cold turkey on the sugar is the way to go. Some people say that sugar is just empty calories, but science proves that it more than that, and much worse for our bodies. I'm talking about refined, added sugars. An interesting book regarding sugar consumption and hunger- "Always Hungry". People who want to eat sugar, go…
  • Hi Maria I consider myself to be addicted to sugar. I struggle with it. For two years I gave up sugar completely, and to be honest I felt completely great. So many foods are naturally sweet without added sugar, but when I'm on the sugar I can't really taste them. Sugar is actually toxic to our bodies, people don't want to…
  • Hi J.C. - my children are 20, 18 and 11 now, but I've been where you are! Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like some support. Kat
  • Welcome Jo! Not sure how much a stone is, is that 14 pounds? Anyway, you are in the right place. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like. Kat
  • Have you tried increasing your calories? I know it sounds counterintuitive but that might help.
  • whole milk yogurt smoothie with nuts and cherries for breakfast. As you've noticed, eating breads and other refined carbs and sugars can make you hungrier. They make me hungrier.
  • The scale isn't an accurate measure of much, given how much fluid we retain from day to day. I do weigh myself every day, at the same time reminding myself that the scale isn't final word on anything. I record only the low weights. This allows me to feel the rate of downward progress rather than getting frustrated with the…
