^ Thanks. I'll try that too. I took it at 6:30 in the morning and didn't need coffee all day, so there's that!
-
I've been too nervous to try it again but maybe I should to compare. The results on my fitbit were simply bizarre.

Well thanks. I'm very lucky to have it well managed with meds - I hope your mom is too! The damage has limited what I can do, but spin has been fantastic for me because it has zero impact on my joints (unlike walking, yoga and pretty much everything else). The strength training has also helped reduce stress on my joints.

Also a working mom. 3 kids. I hit vanity GW 2 years ago in April / May, and since then, I have tried (and FAILED!) to find a maintenance rhythm that works for me. I seem to have 2 modes: losing and gaining. It might simply be that I'm aiming to "maintain" a GW that is unrealistic or at least inconsistent with the lifestyle…

Almost 43 and pretty much all of the above. Best shape of my life. Focused on recomp, and fitness and athletic goals. Committing to logging is the way. But make that committing to logging with a food scale.

Spinning!

I increased my TDEE with age. And calorie intake. Age 41 ~2500 a day. Age 42.5 ~3000 a day.

Ditto. For me, a change in fitness goals has meant letting go of the fixation on scale weight # - hence, I have let go of the scale. I am focused on recomposition, and over the last 6 months or so, I have seen great progress. Clothes fit really well, better composition... but 10 pounds over the original GW # I was at in…

5'11 and maintaining 155 after recomp. I fit into clothes that had fit me at my GW of 145, but am much stronger and happier with my results. Psychologically, however... a part of me still wants to be 145. The scale number I'm at (155) doesn't really reflect what's going on. I eat a ton, I'm super fit. Yet... not 145. I…

I love protein bars - specifically, Quest chocolate chip! The "Best Before Date" impacts taste. I'm currently eating bars that are Best Before May / June 2018. They are MUCH more fresh than bars that expire in January 2018, let alone this Fall, 2017. I would not touch a December 2017 "best before" bar - way, way too stale…

Yes. I do 8 to 10 classes a week. Obsessed! :#

Recast static "12" as a fixed range you will live with, to accommodate the inevitable fluctuations - water, food volume in your body as you digest, etc. I had a similar inflexible "number" - and I wanted to maintain that number (not a range). Doesn't work that way. Really, my # was an "upper limit" number that I wanted to…

Never thought so. Was more into coffee and something small - yogurt. Then took up intense cardio and had to play around with intake to fuel workouts. Before a morning spin class -> banana, then big breakfast (500-600 calories). If I'm training at noon or in the evening, I always make overnight oats. Have noticed a big…

Totally hear you. Love (and relate to) the "jellybean" focus. That was me during my successful weight loss - when my exercise was moderate and a lower priority, and all of my attention and commitment was on diet. I rejected the symbolic jellybeans too! But I find I always have to choose. I can't bring that 100% game to my…

Here's my update... 5'11, hit GW in April 2016 of 145 lbs (yes, lean). Rough time trying to find maintenance and working out 5 days a week - no real fitness goals or plan. 2 to 3x strength training and cardio - running mostly. One year later, I am 155, but definitely have recomped and am pleased with new shape and happy…

I've been doing a 30 days challenge where basically I do a spin class every day (and 2x week, weights). It just ended after I did a 1 hour intense spin class Sunday at 9:30 a.m. From 10:30 a.m. Sunday to my next workout - a spin class at 6:30 p.m. Monday night - I did nothing. What I found was that I was totally recharged.…

Thanks for your perspectives, all. I'm just curious about how different people approach "rest" and the "calendar day" as a unit of measure.

I am doing a crappy job at maintaining, partly due to ambitious fitness goals that ramp up my appetite. 5'11, maintaining 154 eating NET between 1400-1600. Consuming around 2600 TOTAL a day (TDEE according to fitbit is 2750ish to 2800).

Somebody had a really great paper towel roll analogy. Takes longer (more turns) to take off one sheet the closer you get to the cardboard roll. Or something.

I love my Charge HR. I spin a lot (8 classes a week on average). I track a specific "start" and "finish" moment and compare my performance. It keeps me honest - I know when I took it too easy. I've also become quite expert at predicted my avg HR in a class and avg total burn. I know these numbers are not necessarily…

I always experience this. I bring and drink 1-1.5L of water on flights and my own healthy snacks. Sometimes a protein bar or unsalted nuts. Or i stick to water. No matter what, I puff out and it takes me a couple of days to normalize. Long haul flights take longer. It's the worst!

Turning 42 this year. I started my 20# goal in January 2016 and (spoiler alert) succeeded. I'm now maintaining, but happy to have friends who are on the same path. Currently obsessed with spin. Weights twice a week with trainer, and once on my own. It's been one big year. Hit that 20 lb GW by April 2016, and it took me…

Couldn't agree more. Nobody would say, "hey, why do you still brush your teeth and floss every day and go to the dentist when your teeth are so naturally clean? You're lucky!" ETA: All of which to say, I've experienced this too and it can be frustrating. I never talk fitness or health unless asked because I don't want to…

Some very inspiring stories here! I hit GW on April and ricocheted badly through maintenance for the 6 months that followed. I had been too aggressive on my loss and deficit, so it wasn't a smooth transition. Hadn't acquired lasting or sustainable habits. Figuring it out now and feeling much better. Hoping to focus more on…

Thank you - this is really helpful!

Ditto on this. I go to the theatre with a single pack of peanut M&Ms because, no matter what I tell myself and swear, I'll eat that whole giant bag.
-
Oooooh - what did you order? Please share, I need tips!

My recollection from a previous dim sum brunch is that it is pretty much ALL delicious... and that is my challenge! *sigh
