Treats & how to stop at one serving - The Laziness Method

I use The Laziness Method.
Just get a serving of your treat out of the cupboard, then go settle down with it and enjoy eating it.
I just don't bother going getting more.
Embrace the Lazy!

But I can get fitbit steps by going back for more46

Works for me. If I get something out and then go to the trouble of putting it all away ... I can't be bothered digging it all out again.3

Yeah, but you live light years from the cupboard.2 -
But I'm gonna have to get up for other stuff, anyway. Might as well come back with a little happiness in a plate?6

And then use those exercise calories for another snack. It's like an endless cycle of yum.9 -
Yes that method works for me too - in its simplest form pushing the plate on the coffee table or the staff room lunch table so it's just out of my reach. In it's more pure form putting chocolates etc on top shelf of pantry where I can't reach them without getting step stool out of the garage.....5

I like lazy Preportioning works better for meals than for treats Treats are just too easy. So I aim to fill up at meals, and make treat foods less easy by limiting the amounts that comes into my house.4

I've been getting more incidental steps in over Christmas because of this. True story.
But if one has problems moderating servings of treats my recommendation is to just not keep them in the house, just go and buy a single serve instead. I can have whole bags/packets now but at first this strategy was the best for me. Plus, the effort of putting on "outside" clothes and nipping down to the shop often put paid to my treat eating!5 -
Serve in the kitchen, eat in the dining room- it keeps me from taking "just a little more."5
-
One of my strategies in becoming a fitter person has been conquering my innate laziness.
I used to be terribly, terribly lazy and realized it was a huge fault and took active steps to conquer it. It's no longer a failing of mine. But this is because I used to be lazy about everything.
Laziness doesn't work as a motivation for me anymore because I see it as falling back into a very bad habit. I really try not to be lazy because of this. I'm pretty hard on myself about this, because I did see it as a personal failing.
One of my goals for this year is to be able to enjoy eating things in moderation again, I'm going to have to come up with something creative to get me around this slump I've been in lately once I reach goal weight.
So far, the only thing working is buying single serve things like a candy bar.7 -
Might work for some people, like how single serving packages such as the 100kcal oreo works for some.
That doesn't work well for me. If I start on a treat it is hard to stop. I'd get up and go to the cupboard. Again and again. I'd hop in the car and drive to the store if need be. Best not to start at all for me.4 -
Yeah I tape it shut or throw it somewhere high so I have to climb to find it. It works for me because I'm too lazy to even get food if I'm hungry, never mind snacks haha.4

Last week I packed up all the chocolate and put it in the (empty) barn because in the cold dark night I'm not going out there.6

I clearly don't have a grasp on this. I don't think I've ever gone to the store to get more of something I was overeating on, exception would be wine:). Bag of chips at home, I can yeah eat the whole bag, cookies in the house yeah I could eat a lot. But starting on a bag of chips or cookies and run out, I'm not getting in the car to go get more.
Thats some strong urges:).

Lol, I was going to say this exact thing. Running out of wine is the only thing that would send me back to the store.1 -

Ditto on this. I go to the theatre with a single pack of peanut M&Ms because, no matter what I tell myself and swear, I'll eat that whole giant bag.2 -
Heh, I like this approach. Lazy usually works for me.3

I wouldn't go to the store, but I do remember trying to portion out a specific food into the serving size, and then just going back to the cupboard to eat all the servings. Certainly made tracking the consumption easy. Now it just doesn't come into the house.1 -
I would cross the ocean on a raft for a piece of chocolate.
With that said, my tips for eating treats:
I eat them at the end of the day. I find if I have a sweet at lunch I will want more sweets later after dinner.
I do not eat straight from the package. Too easy to mindlessly eat. I measure out a serving, put the package back away, then sit down and enjoy my treat.
I make myself wait. I don't get a cookie the second I want a cookie. I'll wait 30 minutes to an hour to see if the craving passes. If not, I'll get a cookie.
I also eat treats more slowly than regular food. If a serving of cookies is three cookies I'm not going to eat all three cookies right away in a row. I might even save one cookie for later.
Lastly, I often tell myself no. If I've eaten my serving and I want another I tell myself no, I can have another serving tomorrow if I still want it and I move on.5 -

Same. I used to go out in the wee hours of the morning to get single serve items like icecream. I never did go back for seconds.
Did you really drive back for seconds on single serve items? Which ones? @nvmomketo0 -

I live about 6 doors down from the little convenience store and even I wouldn't bother to go down to get more of something I'm eating but run out of!2 -

I've absolutely done this at one point or another. Driven out to get more or eaten one candy bar in the car and then stopped at the next convenience store for another. It's obviously not very normal, but I believe it is a known behavior when it comes to very strong food issues.1 -

I have. I did it while I was low carbing, incidentally. I had a MAD craving for egg salad, and we were out of eggs.
I not only jumped in the car, I had to get the kids ready and go to the store to get eggs.
I bought two dozen and ate the whole batch in one sitting.3 -

Oh. peanut M&M's are kryptonite for me. There is no way I could ever moderate them.
There are some things I'm okay with, and right now I'm struggling with things I've been okay with in the past, and I'm making progress with getting back to moderating them, but I don't think I'll ever be able to moderate those delectable morsels.0 -
LOL, I use this method ALL the time! It works well, actually.2

Omg, mine are those peanut butter M&Ms. I LITerally cannot leave them alone, ever. I don't like to use the term "trigger food" but in this specific case it's probably the most accurate. I had to ban them from the house. Like for forever.0 -

I know myself better than to even try those. They introduced them to the market while I was low carbing, so I've never had them.
I have peanut butter ... issues.1 -
I can take or leave nut butters, but whole nuts with chocolate, man. Peanut M&Ms, yes, but even more chocolate covered almonds. I know better than to bring more than a serving of those home.1

No, that would be a treadmill that dispenses chocolates according to how many calories you've burned.
I think I just made my fortune.10
