Thank you everyone for the insightful replies. I will readdress my calorie counting, but I'm struggling to see where it could be inaccurate; most veg I consume is green and / or leafy; I don't often have things like avocado or sweet potato. However, I'll be a bit more vigilant for a while, see if it stops the rapid gain.…

Thanks for the answer - I'm pretty sure I'm tracking properly, but totally appreciate it's impossible for others to check when I'm signed in from my old account. And I'm definitely more active than I was. It's a bit mysterious. Is hormonal weight gain definitely not a thing? I've read a few articles about women eating less…

It was more the fairly rapid weight gain than anything else. Call it confusion and slight concern rather than unhappiness with body composition! It just seemed bizarre to be eating sensibly and exercising while putting on weight at a fairly steep incline. I suppose what I was trying to find out is if it was a hormonal /…

I've been using the app on my phone and logged into a different account - annoyingly I've forgotten the login for the new one - this old one was the only one I could remember! I'm certainly not overweight - I'm 5ft 6 and 127lb (about 120-122 in June!); my main reason for concern was the fairly speedy weight gain for no…

I'm usually well within the daily recommended carb thing on MFP. I wouldn't have said I'm particularly a big carb person full-stop - I'd say most of my diet is veg, some fruit, occasional protein (tofu, tempeh, occasionally quorn, eggs etc.) and a moderate level of carbs. I don't eat bread, I have rice maybe once a week,…

I've been upping the exercise for 4 weeks now (prior to that, it was mainly just walking - nothing too energetic!). I was warned about water retention and muscle recovery, but when reading about it online, it seemed to suggest this should only last a couple of weeks max? And no, we don't want muscle loss - not after all…

Thanks Cathipa- I did wonder that myself; given that I didn't want to lose much in the first place. I'm not sure how I ended up on the 2lb weight loss goal - I'll see if I can fix that (surely my technological 'prowess' can stretch that far...)

I'd say I'm pretty low-carb already. I'm allergic to wheat, which makes life trickier in that department! I can't work out how to open my food diary, but I usually eat something along the lines of: Breakfast - granola, blueberries, a few walnuts, almond milk Lunch - loads of green veg, usually fried in a teaspoon of…

The trousers are perhaps a little big more snug (though I get that quite often when the weather gets warmer) but nothing too major. I certainly don't feel any bigger (apart from the bra-size :D ) They're strange old things, aren't they... our bodies! Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?

PS - I'm definitely not pregnant, in case anyone's wondering... :D

They're digital scales - do digital scales do that? My husband weighs the same, so I'm not sure it's that (tempting though it would be to blame the scales!). I was happy with my weight before - is that what being 'in maintenance' is? TMI but my chest seems to have got bigger (and defo more painful) - is this a sign of…

I went a while back (over another related issue) and to be honest, they weren't very forthcoming...

I agree with doing something else to take your mind off it - I can quite happily down far too much wine in an evening, so what I've taken to doing is pouring myself half a glass, going upstairs to work on my writing (which keeps the hands busy and the mind occupied, lol) then just sipping at it. It might not work for you -…

I think it's just taken me by surprise, as for the last fifteen years or so I've not really had any problems like that - occasional water weight obviously, but it just came off within a few days, pretty standard stuff. This month-long water weight has surprised me a bit - it's not even so much the weight gain as the…

Thank you - that's really helpful!

Water retention can make you gain as much as 4lb in a day - it's most likely to be that! Drink plenty of water and you'll find it flushes out in a day or so. As you probably know, too much salt can cause your body to retain water too, so ease off the sodium for a little while. I think everyone experiences water retention…
