  • Cut back on all the cardio, lift weights and eat more. I was in a similar situation. Once I started building muscle, I was able to eat a normal amount of food and still lose or maintain weight if I wanted to
  • Or wear polypro instead of a wetsuit 😀
  • I’d check whether you’re eating enough protein (~1g per pound of your goal weight), never mind doing too much cardio and keep up the resistance training.
  • Strong will do that for resistance workouts
  • I’m using one called Strong” which is brilliant! It has exercise demos and everything. The free version allows you to enter three customised workouts and the pro version unlimited and will sync to mfp
  • I used to get terrible January muscle pain every year and thought it was normal for that new-year-new-start resistance training, but this year I have upped my protein considerabky and have had tiredness but NO pain/DOMS. I can’t believe it. I was eating only about half the protein I should have. You could check macros???
  • It doesn’t really matter - it’s the steady weightloss trend you need, which will show up on your home scale as you progress. Lots of scales show differently and as you get closer to goal it won’t matter as much.
  • Hopefully by the end of January , if not before. I had to lose this weight TWICE because last time I was careless and unscientific when I reached goal. This time I’m going to be eating at TDEE and adding exercise cals and lifting AND logging honestly and monitoring and absolutely NOT faining back
  • There is a lot of great advice here re. Rate of weight loss, food scales etc which Is really good. What helps me keep perspective is using a weight trend tracker - I use Happy Scale because I have an iphone but there are android apps too. It helps me to see the trend weight staying steady when my daily weight jumps around.
  • I used to wonder why everyone said they only eat back half their exercise calories, until I got a fitbit! Prior to that, I had worked out how many calories I had likely used for the range of activities I did, and logged them as such. This year, I got a fitbit and it adds about twice as many calories as I had worked out…

  • Hi - another new member here - signed up for my first half marathon on 8th October. Doing an 11km trail run at the end of April as well (first since 1993!). Wish me luck - I have a lot of training to plan and do.
  • I went to see my sister , a few hours away, who I haven't seen since since before I started getting serious about making this change. Without realising she was doing it, she told me I look good maybe six times in an hour, but it is her first comment that made me realise I've changed: "Wow, so we're not big boned, we're…
  • Suddenly realised that I have only 24 days left to my weight loss "deadline". With just that pesky couple of pound left to lose. Better get serious again after six weeks of unintentional maintenance vs weightloss. The difference being ceasing my enthusiastic exercise regime after a holiday away got me out of the habit.…
  • Being so close to goal. I'm just over 1kg away. Was only a few hundred grams away a couple of days ago. I know it's only a number, but I want to tick it off before just going with a range. Also bought a jacket that I am wearing today that is just a teeny bit too tight. (It's a M, but for sure it is the smallest M I have…
  • My mini goal is making it back from my week away from home without having put on weight. No bathroom scales, no food scales, just me seeing if I can get this right for a week!
  • I agree with the other posters - my first thoughts while I was reading your post was to be so impressed by how honest and how brave you were to share this with others. Congratulations on your weight loss and congratulations for having the fortitude to share this with this community. Best wishes always
  • I think there's also that "well, this is good enough" psychological thing going on.... Once you make it to a weight that is in the healthy range, and you stop feeling overweight and feel as though you look better, it's easier to subconsciously stop trying as hard as you did when you were unhappy with where you were at. I'm…
  • Love it! Absolutely brilliant! You definitely rock.
  • I am finding that I suddenly have an urge to buy clothes that aren't perhaps age appropriate.... I'm having a throwback to my golden years of nineties grunge. Heaps of fun because I get all my clothes in op shops and now I can fit all the cute little things that everyone else has grown out of!
  • I have this weird thing going on where I am now 5kg lighter than my previous "happy" weight, and yet I am still feeling unhappy with what I see in the mirror. Since I am nearly at goal, I am obviously having some sort of body dysmorphia going on..... see - I can recognise that on an intellectual level but the feelings are…
  • Weight sneaking on and feeling increasing terrible about it. Being the heaviest I had ever been, even though my children are now teenagers. Then moving into working in an industry that has connection to the fitness industry, and spending time visiting gyms for work. And finally, knowing that losing weight takes time and I…
  • Look at you! You must be so proud of yourself! Well done.
  • Just came from the op shop with a cute little tartan skirt to wear with my new docs - UK Size 8 !! Could be a bit age inappropriate but I don't care!
  • Me too under - I'm 4.5kg under. And it was 15 years ago.

  • My dog didn't keep up with me on our walk today. Don't know whether to be proud of me or worried about the dog!
  • Went to visit my old workmates after not seeing them for a year. Two people told me I have lost too much weight! I never thought anyone would have said that. I was kind of hoping that they would notice I was slimmer, of course. By the way, they are wrong, as I am firmly in the middle of my healthy weight range. Also, I…
  • This is just over four months progress. I am so proud of myself - I turn 50 in October and that was my motivation to get back to feeling good about myself. Nearly at goal weight now but also working on strength training as well. I'm 168cm tall and was 72.5kg in the first photo, now 59.6kg. GW 57.5kg
  • I have a thin husband who eats mountains of food and stays thin. It's been ages since I got dressed in front of him, but the other day he walked in when I was getting dressed and said "Look at you!" in genuine tones of amazement and approval, so that was kind of great. And some friends called round and asked him how he…
