  • I stopped beating myself up when I wasn't perfect. I have a huge problem with wanting to do things well or not at all. Same with this. I would want to exercise 5-6 days a week, or not at all. Eat super healthy, or junk food. Give yourself grace. Don't talk yourself out of doing something because you aren't good at it yet.
  • I ran today, despite being stressed out and slightly sick. Also, non health related, but one of my students emailed me and said that I made accounting fun to learn. That's not something you hear every day.
  • I am a country girl living and working downtown in a large city, so I feel the same way as the OP. I don't look fat, but I'm large and can "throw my weight around" if needed. But I already somewhat stick out and get comments because I am cute and different looking than most people walking downtown. I'm afraid if I get…
  • To work out 5 days a week until I go on my winter trip.
  • Went black Friday shopping and decided to try on some size 8 jeans. They fit! Did not purchase them though because they were $35 and I still have 20-30 lbs to lose, so I think I'll go down another size or two.
  • There is one big hill on the way to my office. When I started cycling, I could only get up 1/4th the hill before having to walk my bike and rest. Today I rode up the entire thing!
  • No one told me how much of a difference 10-20 lbs would make. ~1/2 way to my goal, but can really tell a difference. Or that my face would change, and since I'm older, it doesn't look the same as it did last time I was this weight. I would say I don't recognize myself, but I do... I look just like a female version of my…
  • Great story! You should consider sending it somewhere to see if you can get it published in a magazine or newspaper. You are a very enthralling writer.
  • The scale hasn't moved much in the last month, so I need to acknowledge some non-scale victories. 1. Everyone is telling me how great I look. No one has commented on my weight, but I'm getting a lot of complements on my clothes and makeup, haha. (It's the same clothes and makeup I always wear) 2. I have gall stones again.…
  • Out of the 190s. I should reach this goal soon, as I'm less than 1 lb away.
  • I just wanted to mention that the "average" size is going to be skewed upwards, because you are going to get a lot more outliers on the heavy end, rather than the light end. Additionally, as the population ages, the average size will probably go up, because teenagers and younger adults haven't had time to become…
  • My office-mates talk to eachother in a different language while I'm in the room. I don't know that language, so I think it is really rude, especially when they are talking about our work. All of my peers except for one (old, scary guy) speak the same other language, so they just leave me out of their conversations, even…
  • Parks want to increase visitation, but at some point, too many visitors end up harming the ecology. However, I don't think they would ever state that as a goal of the fee increase, because it would be a public relations nightmare.
  • Ok, so I am fine with the government owning some land and allowing people onto the land for free. However, what you are paying for infrastructure improvements. You are paying for the toilets, trails, and cabins. Imo, those should be paid for by those who use them. Also, although it is supposedly $68 million increase in…
  • I just got into cycling in the past couple of months, and bought my own bike about a week and a half ago so that I could commute the 1.5 miles to work (before that I rented from my school's student rec center.) I got an inexpensive Diamondback because it was the one I felt most comfortable on (after going to several bike…

  • I am a Ph.D student who has taken (too) many economics classes. TBH, I don't trust the informativeness of most comparative state and country level data, as it is a naive view of statistical correlation at best. (Also, the southern states also have the most blacks, so that gives us racial issues, wealth, education, and…
  • Posted a picture on Facebook of me and my sister this morning. Talked to my mom this afternoon, and the first thing she said was "So, looks like you've lost weight." You can definitely tell I've lost in my face.
  • I have this nice grey suit jacket that I got a few years ago for work. Even then, it didn't fit perfectly and was a little hard to button. Today I put it on and have it buttoned. It fits well, of a little loose at the boobs. I didn't think loosing less than 20 lbs would have this much of a difference.
  • I jumped on my horse bareback today, and it was so much easier! I almost ended up overshooting it because I'm used to carrying 20 lbs more of extra weight.
  • So, I went on a 1 hr and 45 minute bike ride today. I took a break to enjoy the scenery, so it was probably only 1 hr and 30 minutes of actual biking, but it was SOOO FUN!!!! If I would have known I would like it this much, I would have got a more expensive bike, haha.
  • I went to Chick-fil-a for dinner and an ice cream to soothe my sore throat (lecturing for 2.5 hours will do that to a person) Generally I would have gotten a sandwich, fries, and a sweet tea. Today I got a salad and water.
  • I think the problem is that we can overeat whatever is our weakness. So, for instance, I like sweet tea and icecream. Well, I can have all the sweet tea and icecream I want, and no one is stopping me, and neither is my paycheck. Some people have a weakness for chips. They can eat all the chips they want and no one will…
  • There are two things that you would have to consider. First, does following a religious diet affect health in and of itself? Secondly, diet aside, does their concept of God affect their ability to have self control and/or agency of their health and weight? That being said, I think if we were to answer the question, we…
  • Everything is too sweet! I've been noticing this getting worse for a while now. The level of sweetness of cake, candy, and icecream that I used to take for granted is now just too much! I can't eat it. Also, I have all these old pairs of size 12-14 jeans that have always been slightly too big, but good for horseback riding…
  • I'm 5'8. Currently I am 192 lbs and wear a loose size 10. I think I will end up at about a size 6 when all is said and done. I gain and lose weight very evenly, I have extra large bones, and have a large hourglass figure. When I weighed 209, I was just growing out of size 12s.
  • I used to ride a lot, but with work, I can't ride very much anymore. However, I have a horse. She's 19. I don't ride her often, probably a light trail ride once every two weeks, but she is fun to groom and pet and take pictures of. (Her feet need to be done in this pic)
  • That is awesome! I have some horseback riding jeans which were always almost a size too big on me, but fine for riding horses. Now I can't even where them riding anymore. And I've gone down one pant size, but they are already getting a little loose. It is a really cool visual change.
  • My BFF has had problems with her weight and body image. Today she said I inspire her to be healthier :) Also, you guys have inspired me, and I bought a bike today. It is a starter bike, but I'm excited to "play" with it and begin to use it to go to work and back, since it is less than 1.5 miles away I loved biking when I…
  • I have a small plastic dish that I got from the dollar store for 3 for $1. It is about the size of a cupcake liner and it makes me feel fancy. Or, I get a pint and mark the sides at each serving.
  • I've been demotivated recently, so I wanted to think of a NSV to get me back on track. Well, yesterday I was getting some ice cream out of the fridge and I realized that I didn't remember when I bought that ice cream because it takes a really long time for me to finish a carton. Previously it would have taken me 4 servings…
