  • I have a 19 year old horse, 12 year old rabbit, 6 year old dog & 2.5 year old cat. And I have a foster bunny. This is an old picture. She is blind now, but just as sassy. Fosterbun! He's a cutie!

  • I biked to and from my office today. About 3.5 miles round trip. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
  • I bought a couple of pairs of old Navy jeans today. I have been a size 12 since highschool, but today I was very solidly a size 10. I know sizes have changed a bit in the 10 years I've been out of highschool, but I'm still very excited. Also, I got one of the pairs for $1.97. That's a NSV in itself!!
  • I am an abused grad student. I had to give a test today which took up most of my Saturday, and my students didn't do well, because no one does well on these exams, and the coordinator for the course won't even let me see the test before the exam. How am I supposed to teach the course?! Also, my department wants to use me…
  • That is great! (Except for the broken ribs part) I'm not close to my grandpa, but he went whitewater rafting for his 85th birthday and is sailing/cruising around the world at 87. So I really hope I get his genes.
  • Terrible day today. I spent half the day crying because I'm an abused Ph.D student and I hate it. My department keeps messing with my teaching schedule and funding, I feel ignored by the faculty because I have to teach rather than be their research assistant, and my peers ignore me because they all speak Chinese and I am…
  • I see three of my lower back ribs now. Also, I think I've lost an inch on my lower stomach, which is really nice!!
  • About 10 lbs. My face looked thinner and my tailbone started hurting if I sat down for too long. 10 lbs was about 25% of the way to my goal.
  • I started the c25k program four weeks ago and my heart rate has decreased by 4 bpm since I started it.
  • While we're sharing anecdotal evidence; The school I teach at has an unusually large number of 1st generation and below the poverty line students, but I haven't heard much about students going hungry. We have issues, but that isn't one of them.
  • I'm going to frame this as a NSV, although part of me sees it differently. Today I reached week 3 of the C25K program. I've been doing it steadily for 4 or 5 weeks now, but was listening to my body and trying to go slowly so I wouldn't hurt anything. (And one week something in one of my ankles didn't feel right so I had to…
  • Nope, not stupid at all. Just make sure you have a weekly deficit. A lot of people "save up" calories for the weekend, so it isn't uncommon to vary your calories throughout the week.
  • My parents house has a lot of mirrors. I want to lose enough that I can tell I've changed when I visit them for Christmas. It's 14 weeks away, so I also want to weigh around 180 lbs, which is about a lb a week of loss. Also, I want to complete the C25K program by then.
  • I think growing up is going through times of insecurity about food and housing, and other things. I bet kids who don't go to college are food insecure around that age too. We can help alleviate some of it -there a lot of events on campus which have food- however we are also trying to teach students responsibility, and…
  • Rice cakes
  • My legs have finally caught up to my heart, so it didn't feel like extreme torture when I was running.
  • I stayed on my spooking horse today bareback. I usually do, but it is always a victory, haha. Apparently my horse thinks longhorn cows are the devil. They look cool though. Health wise, I lost an inch off of my waist, which gives me less of a chance for heart problems. Also, I didn't realize how quickly my pants would…
  • I don't have kids, but I am working on my Ph.D (dissertation stage, yay!) Working out is essential for me to have the energy and clear head I need to study. Additionally, several of the professors I know say that their best research breakthroughs come when they are running. Although the Ph.D program takes all of your time…
  • Thanks! I've experienced doms when I rode horses after not doing so for a while, but I only rode once a week, so there was never any pushing through the pain. I've always had the "athletic body shape" so I'm excited to see if I can actually make my body do athletic things. I'm glad that I have this thread because it is…
  • Woke up this morning and my calves were so sore! Looked it up, and it looks like delayed onset muscle soreness, and that it is ok to run with it. So, I ran. It took me until 6pm to get up the will to do so, but I made it!
  • Thanks for the video! I looked up running stretches on youtube, but I didn't find a concise video on it.
  • I decided salad isn't worth it, and neither is skim milk. If I'm going to drink milk, it will be creamy, not milk flavored water. I love sweet potatoes, and will eat kale if it is cooked and paired with couscous or freekeh. I don't think I'm a picky eater, but I am more picky when it comes to "junk" food or eating out. I…
  • I'm beginning to run, and by beginning, I mean I've spent the past 3-4 weeks on C25k week 1&2, haha! I'm trying to take it slow so that I don't hurt myself, as I have to walk a lot for work. I've noticed when I go slow, my legs kill me, and when I go "fast" (Not actually fast), my heart kills me. So generally I vacillate…
  • Went to class last night with a sore throat and feeling pretty sick, lectured anyways and didn't confuse the students too much with incoherent ramblings, haha! Today, I feel fine and even did C25K and increased my running speed. :) This is a big NSV for me because last year I got sick all the time during the semester and…
  • -Healthy decisions are made at the grocery store, not the pantry. ---Along with that, don't go shopping when you are hungry! -The measure of progress in your life isn't the absence of problems, but the presence of better quality problems.
  • As someone who audited government programs for a few years, I wanted to add my piece to the discussion. We have a problem with foodstamps, and there is a LOT of fraud in that industry. A few of my auditor buddies discovered a foodstamp/WIC ring that was bringing in millions. This happened within my office while I was…
  • I'm starting to like my face again. I put on a lot of weight on my face and neck when I was studying for comprehensive exams in May, and it was unbearable. I felt like I couldn't breathe and my face was really fat. So, a lot of that has finally gone away and I feel like myself again.
  • Watching this thread. I'm 5'8, SW 208, CW 201, GW 175, and I will re-evaluate when I get there. I am very large boned -my wrists appear bony at 7.5 inches- so I'll probably always be on the high end of the weight category.
  • Today I realized how much working out helps eliminate brain fog/tiredness. I will have to make it a goal to workout in the morning from now on so I can be productive all day (This is why most professors exercise all the time! I understand now!) I also did C25K w1 d2, but before hand I looked up proper running form and…
