My son really wanted to go on a run with me tonight (NSV 1), but my hip abductor is still sore. I compromised by agreeing to run just one mile with him. I took it easy and didn't push myself, but I got a better time (NSV 2)! If you had told me this a year ago, I would have laughed in your face. 2 years ago... I can't even imagine what my reaction would have been. I love running; I love lifting weights. Love-- really. I look forward to it (NSV 3)! I owe MFP and these forums a big debt of gratitude ❤️27

Terrible day today. I spent half the day crying because I'm an abused Ph.D student and I hate it. My department keeps messing with my teaching schedule and funding, I feel ignored by the faculty because I have to teach rather than be their research assistant, and my peers ignore me because they all speak Chinese and I am the only one who can't. I am the black sheep of the department. But, I resisted the urge to binge or go get fast food to assuage my abject misery.
And it will get better, I just have to press on.37 -

Good on you for not eating your feelings after a bad day!!
I'm actually less than half the size I once was. My maximum weight was 387. I weigh 148 now. It's not a matter of waiting to qualify for the surgery---I have quite likely lost the most weight I can lose comfortably while remaining healthy, as my trunk and leg skin inhibit certain movements. (For example, after walking a 5K or doing a triathlon I end up with severe rashes from loose skin rubbing). Another 10 lbs would put me at a "normal" BMI, but I'm pretty content with my body fat % being below 20 prior to any removal process. I have a good 10-15 lbs of loose skin just in the areas that are causing major problems. The issue was that the surgeon went straight to pushing me to get a total lower body lift (which involves massive pain and recovery) instead of listening to my specific areas of concern. He pointed out areas that I don't feel inhibit me; for example my arms. Sure I have some loose skin there but I also have great muscle tone and definition there. Those are my battle scars from a lifetime of (super morbid) obesity. Imagine having to get naked and having someone point out all of your bodily flaws, including areas in which you have some semblance of pride or areas you hadn't considered at all (the phrase "foot and a half of loose skin on your lower back," for example). It was not pleasant.
Oh, wow! Thank you for explaining what you meant. I had no idea.
I'm so sorry the surgeon was so insensitive. You are an inspiration and I love the fact that your focus with the surgery is not just esthetic but really on allowing your body to do more. Forget that guy. Surgery is hard and painful as it is so you should find a surgeon you can trust and feel at ease with as well as being well qualified.
Keep being amazing!16 -
I have left over cake.
Which means I have uneaten food on a plate in my vicinity
And I don't feel the need to just eat it!
free cake at work - looked really lovely and fluffy and nice
it really wasn't, really quite heavy and bland
so I had 3 forkfuls (to check my first assessment was correct) and still have 3 quarters of the piece left. Taking it home in case mum or gf want some.18 -
I did Day 2 of Week 1 of C25K. While this in and of itself isn't a huge NSV, for me it's a pretty solid step. I love starting things, but keeping them going? Getting out of the house instead of going back to bed? Did and done. Belief that I can keep this going? Yeah, that's starting to get there...21

I just booked my ultimate goal weight reward, a professional family photo shoot for me and my husband! I might not actually be at my ultimate goal weight by then, but I'm actually excited by how I'm going to look in these pictures rather than hoping that I can somehow be posed to look good.27

My coworker calls me over as I was walking and tells me, "never wear those pants again, they are big on you". I responded with the biggest smile. In January the same pants were tight around my thighs, hips and butt. Im still struggling to lose in the hip area because I'm short 5'2", extremely pear shaped and the scale has stalled. So I appreciate the weight loss feedback. I'm still holding off on buying pants, I'm supposed to get a raise at my job in October I'll just save that money and go crazy Christmas shopping for work pants.28

I just got back to O'hare this evening from a business trip and I almost missed my flight out of RDU because of TSA. To be honest, It did not come as a huge shock that this would happen eventually. I travel a bunch for work and for the past several months the TSA agents have done a fairly long pause after I scan my phone on hand them my ID. Up until today they have always eventually handed it back to me and I have thought to myself "oh, I guess I need to get a new DL", but then I quickly forget about it later.
RDU, which is typically about as cake walk of an airport as you will find, was not the same story today. I have pre-check from TSA because I travel a bunch, and the line was not long at all with only 3-4 other people ahead of me. I am not normally one to show up to the airport late, but I had an appointment go long on me over in the Triangle so I was rushing to turn in my rental car and head up to the terminals.
This time after I handed over my ID I could tell the guy was immediately suspicious. I guess somebody was trying to earn their junior G man merit badge, because random white guys in business suits in the pre-check line are not what I would expect would throw up Pablo Escobar red flags. "This does not look like you at all, sir" was the first thing out of his mouth. I explained to him that I have lost a lot of weight the last year but he dismissed this pretty quickly and called a supervisor and another guy over. Now I was starting to feel uncomfortable, as not only were 3 TSA guys now in my face, but I could feel 40 or so sets of eyes planted firmly on me from the people in the various lines behind me.
They did eventually let me send my bag through the scanner but immediately afterwards I was the recipient of "additional screening". The supervisor kept asking me questions about my ID like asking me to recite my address and such, and then he turned to questions from my original TSA interview when I got pre-check like my Mother's maiden name. The whole process took about 25 min or so, which at the time was 25 min I did not have. RDU is luckily not a huge airport, and they were calling group 5 when I got to the gate to board. It was cutting it pretty close, but I have cut it closer.
So I guess now is the time to go get a new ID. NSV? I guess, but not in the traditional sense.

I got off my lazy butt and turned on some of the RevFit videos that someone mentioned a few pages back on Monday. My 3-year-old begged to do it again after dinner tonight, so we did. My arm and shoulder muscles are weak and I'm terribly uncoordinated, but it's still fun.21

Seeing before and after pictures! I also fit into jeans that my mother gave me MONTHS ago, so that was pretty exciting!

Realizing just how much my perception of distance has changed over the past few months. I only have street parking where I live, and sometimes I have to park several blocks away. Tonight was one of those nights. I had that excited-yet-bored feeling where I had plenty of energy, but the idea of taking the time to walk that distance seemed painfully tedious, so I decided to run from the car to my apartment. It was a super quick run; it was only...about 3 minutes? A little more? (My phone says 2, but it's not super accurate for time periods that short.) I know I was running a lot faster than I can sustain for my longer distance runs, but other than that I wasn't really paying attention. It was no big deal to me while I was doing it.
Well, a little bit later it struck me that when I was living with my ex-roommate, I considered that a long distance to walk, let alone run. So I pulled out my phone and, just out of curiosity, looked up just how far I went...
Yeah, if you'd told me a year ago that I would one day consider half a mile "just a quick dash" I would never have believed you. Yet here we are.37 -
This is such BS. The whole thing, for the most part.... Glad you made your flight, no thanks to Theatrical Security Aspirants...I have had similar treatment and it boils my Blutos esp after going through the process of getting a Nexus pass. They are selling the theater of security and it's a shame.JustRobby1 wrote: »I just got back to O'hare this evening from a business trip and I almost missed my flight out of RDU because of TSA. Today's NSV shook me. Picked up a bag of cat litter at the shop, read it said 10kg & after double checking, I'm 1lb away from losing that(22 and a bit lbs) I struggled to carry it to the till, yet I've hefted it around (albeit evenly distributed) for who knows how long!
These are just coming thick & fast just now, can hardly believe it. Definitely needed it today though as I woke up this morning feeling like I'd all the build & grace of a baby elephant

Not at all, but well handled. If you travel again, have before and after (and in the middle) photos ready. (I don't mean that entirely seriously, but when we got our 7 year old's passport renewed we had to provide an annual photo of him over the course of the 5 years since his original photo was taken.) Glad to hear you didn't miss your flight!!8 -
