My own thoughts as everyone is different. I think protein, strength training, keep processed food to a minimal, track cals. And most important being patient. We dont move as much as once did. We dont need as many cals. Im now 60. 1200 cals a day to lose weight. Have to be creative so im not hungry, stick to my 1200 cals,…

An hour of walking a day. As someone who has done a triathlon that is so impressive. I can't run anymore due to ankle injury, but I just can't find the motivation to walk. I miss putting on my head banging music and going for a run. Bores me to death. Thus i have now put on a heap of weight and terribly unfit. Got the food…

When I did my ankle and couldn't do much for 6 weeks, I boxed with my PT by sitting on the bench. We did seated weight sessions. Can't remember what else but she still found ways to make it work. I miss her. Swimming is another option.

I started in the gym at 52. Did my first triathlon at 54. Loved how toned I looked. Got off track so starting again at 56 with the hope of getting fit enough to do a triathlon but not doing the day. I love the training. But unless I can take a kids doughnut and floaties I am not doing that swim again lol. Was convinced I…

Those tiny little lamb cutlets. Tasty. But at 750 cals for 3 I will give them a miss.

Hmm. For some reason my cat hates pilates. Soon as I get down on the mat he attacks me. So gets locked in bedroom. The other day if I am in my home gym, looks as if to say have you lost your mind and walks out. So nope no help what so ever.

Are you having sugar in coffee etc? I am same height. I was on 1500 a day. Wasn't hungry at all. But I lost nothing while training for a triathlon. I was swimming , cycling 20kms a day, 4 pt sessions a week. Trainer and I couldn't work it out. Thought it was becauze i was over training. Everything went into my diary. It…

Passionfruit yoghurt. I could eat it all day.

Oh honey. I so feel for you. I wouldnt worry so much about the exercise at the moment. Your body is probably under so much stress with lack of sleep and the load you have happening. Ie school and work. Yes stress puts weight on some people. Try and make small changes. Say knock out the nuggets and coke meal with a salad…

If your losing in measurements thats awesome. The scales are just a number. As my pt says throw them out! Dont become a slave to them. They can be soul destroying. If measurements are moving what your doing is working. Or if your clothes arent as tight. I use to be a slave to the scales and it just about sent me nuts.

When i was training for my triathlon anywhere up to 2 hours. Now 30 min in and out. Hiit cardio 3 times a week. Circuit style. Other 2 days weights. Just about to add running 3 times a week for 15 min. PT says no reason to be there for long periods. Smash it and get out. Would love to be able to run 5km everyday but the…

Hang in there. I feel your frustration. I trained for a triathlon for 4 months. We are told if you eat well and exercise off it comes. I was eating 1500 cals a day. Nothing processed. 4 pt sessions a week. Cycling 80km a week. Swimming twice a week. Walking due to a stress fracture 3km everyday. Lost nothing. Zip. Just as…

Once i cut out the junk food i struggled to get to 1500 calories a day. Now i eat 1500 easy. Dont even try and take my food of me lol. I added things like yoghurt which i use to hate. Fruit. A chunk of cheese. Boiled egg. All healthy and are good for a snack between meals. Something i never use to do. Was a 3 meal a day…

Im a female in my fifties who discovered the gym 2 years ago. Im the fittest ive been in 40 years, since i was a state swimmer. I love doing both the cardio and weights. My knees dont like the running so much even though scans say there is nothing wrong with them. Grr. Love running. I did my first triathlon in march. Kept…

I find it hard to eat when stressed. My job at times can be stressful. Im amazed i can have a mongrel day go to the gym and run or do a pt session and come out buggered but stress gone.

My PT would tell you to throw scales out. They can be soul destroying. Use measurements to track progress. Scales can make you think overnight you have put 2kg on if you have eaten carbs. Something salty will hold water put weight up. Even doing weights can put it up. She used to get hysterical txts from me until after 6…

That is such a great story. There is alot of dedication in that. Great job.

Im nearly at my goal although small. 3 weeks ago i cut out sugar, potatoes and pasta. Not missing the sugar in my coffee so thats sustainable. I miss my potato and pasta. Next monday is the last day and have weigh in with my pt. Dropped 2kg which for me is awesome.

I try to not eat anything processed. Ie just plain say grilled chicken and stir fry vege. Its tough being patient. Im in my fifties and going through menopause which makes it nearly impossible. To much exercise and cortisol goes into stress. I love exercise. I was working out like a crazy person to do my first triathlon…

My Pt thinks everything in moderation. I dont like ice cream and havent had it in years. But wave a doughnut with pink icing. Hello! When i first started losing weight i knew i couldnt be trusted and would fall off the wagon. First 6 months nothing sweet or booze went past my lips. Funny thing is if i eat a box of smarties…

Thank you all for your replies. I was weighing and putting everything into mfp up to two months ago. Nothing has changed food wise. I try and stay off the scales. And just measure once a week. Same day. Same time. Pav your right. Weight shouldnt and doesnt matter. Its that the measurements are going up that concerns me. I…

Please go slowly and dont run to far to start. I went in all gun home. Ended up with stress fracture in knee. Got clearance to run then got shin splints. Got clearance and have been told walk 3 min then run two min. Have done this for 3 weeks. Now i run 2 and walk 2. Few weeks of that then up the run part. Frustrating but…

As my pt told me get off the scales. She would get hysterical texts about how my weight went up and down. And i too at times would cry. Use a tape measure. I actually weigh more now as I do weights but losing inches. Having said that im in my early fifties. Got girlie guns. Skinny legs. But the pooch is going down so…

Ok. I twisted my ankle badly and also have had a stress fracture in my knee and shin splints. Still exercised but took imagination on the part of my pt. You could still do ropes. Ie 60 ropes. 6 slam balls. 4o ropes 4 slam balls. 20 ropes 2 slam balls. Then rest and go again. . That gets your heart rate up. Boxing is great…

I totally get the being drained at the end of your day. If i was honest in the early days I never wanted to exercise after work. But going to the gym straight from work became a habit. And it's great if you have a stressful job. I can have a bad day, go to the gym and feel heaps better when I walk out.

Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for your responses. I have got new shoes a few weeks ago. Doing the slow build up. Did some googling last night. It seems you shouldnt stretch before running. That can cause injuries apparently. Seems walk. Then do high knees. Butt kicks. Then slowly pick up the pace. Will speak to my pt…
