  • I look at carbs minus fiber. I DO count sugar alcohols because I do believe they effect my blood sugar. I'm very sensitive to glucose and this seems to work for me.
  • In some people, absolutely. In others it will simply slow down weight loss. In others it won't matter at all. Calorie in / calorie out has been proven archaic. Insulin plays an enormous role in weight loss and metabolism in general. Here is a research article from Ravichandran Ramasamy, PhD, Department of Medicine, New…
  • I've had success with the second one, especially when paying attention to when I eat my carbohydrates. I am sensitive to carbs, though, so that is what works for me. I do a little more protein and a little less fat but the ideology is basically the same. Overall, though, if you have lost 13lbs with the first set of macros…
  • Intermittent fasting has gotten rave reviews and it's something I've always wanted to try. I've read about it but never tried it myself. What exactly is 5:2?

  • Cerise, you clearly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. What has worked for you thus far may not work for everyone ESPECIALLY if you had 80 pounds to lose. It's easy to lose extra body fat when you are over 20%BF. I lost 50 and it got a hell of a lot harder as my BF came down. Some people, (LIKE OP HAS…
  • OP already agreed with my point on this matter. Some people are more sensitive to sugar than others. Sugar eaten before bed will not be burned for fuel. Sugar eaten before exercise will be burned quickly. You will notice that as your BF% lowers these things come in to play much, much more. Good luck!
  • Great job! I loved keto and dropped a ton of weight very quickly. Beware that it does slow down as you get closer to your goal and don't get frustrated like I did!
  • There is no misinformation lol. Your thinking is deeply flawed. The body will naturally use SOME muscle when there is a caloric deficit. Always. Please just google it or look it up on any nutritional website. I'm tired of being attacked for the TRUTH. I'm out. :D
  • I apologize if I offended anyone. That was not my intention. Do what works for you. God bless!
  • I was simply point out that CI/CO is not the whole story. That was my only intention. I made this mistake, lost pounds of muscle AND slowed my metabolism to a halt. It was a nightmare. That is why I am passionate about this. The body WILL use muscle for fuel if protein is insufficient. That was my advice to Lauren. I stick…
  • Losing muscle and slowing down her metabolism is her goal? Oh, my mistake. Sorry. I'll stop using science.
  • Read my previous post. This is basic science. If you do not eat enough protein your body will break down muscle.
  • The goal is not weight loss. The goal is FAT loss.
  • Lol. Fundamentally, yes... If you eat only twinkies and junk food and are still under calories you will lose weight (fat and muscle.) However, if you eat the same amount of calories in chicken and brown rice you will lose MORE fat and retain MORE muscle. Make sense?
  • What you said is fundamentally correct, but insulin spikes will certainly not help you release stored energy.
  • It absolutely does! Calorie in/calorie out is good but it's been scientifically proven blood sugar plays an ENORMOUS role as well, especially for individuals who are diabetic or even insulin resistant. I'm sorry but this was awful advice.
  • Don't listen to anyone telling you to eat chocolate or ice cream before bed!!! If you are like me, carbs (especially before bed) can put on weight faster than anything. If I were you I would consider some healthy lean meat (i do jerky) or just let it go. I go under many days it's certainly not something to feel guilty…

  • Mike, this sounds like an excellent plan in my opinion. I try sticking to lower carb macro's and it seems to work for me. I know everyone is different but even if I restrict calories I dont lose weight nearly as fast as when I keep my carbs around 20%, fats 30% and protein 50%.
  • I was doing exactly that before realizing if I just cut the fat now I'll look so much better than if I keep focusing on getting bigger. I'm going to continue to push myself in the gym but my diet is going to be so much better!
  • Ill check that out for sure thank you
  • Hey, I find walking to be great, too, and I also hate running. I also highly recommend light weight training since you mention that you like lunges and push ups. I think the questions you asked are a definite YES. After gaining about 20lbs of fat over the last year I'm going to start doing what I used to as well.
