  • Mixed berry compote Peaches with a dusting of powdered sugar Apple sauce with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Sorbet Kissel' (a berry based beverage - think drinkable jam)
  • multivitamin and vitamin D (because I live in the north, and the multivitamin doesn't have enough). I use valerian root to help with occasional insomnia.
  • I started with walking, at first just going for short amount of time, and then gradually building up. I was told be my PCP that it is better to do a small amount every day - even if only 5-10minutes - then to do a lot of exercise only one day a week (higher risk of injury) when starting out. I think I started with a 10-15…
  • I've managed to injure myself every time I've started C25K (a handful of times over the years). It's frustrating because I can walk 6-8 miles but can't even run a quarter mile. I think some of my issue is that I can at this point in time walk much faster than I can run - I can walk a 4mph pace for 30 minutes, but running I…
  • I don't get hip pain from them but stopped using the elliptical as the repetitive motion was causing my foot to go completely numb to the point I couldn't feel it at all and was not fully resolving for sometimes up to a couple of hours after my work out.
  • It depends on what your goals are as to which is "better" for meeting those goals. Neither the banana nor the oatmeal is inherently bad. It also depends on what else you are eating through out the day and through out the week so that that you are maintaining your overall nutrition levels in terms of macro and micro…
  • I have a nice blazer from several years ago that I'd like to fit into again. My goal is that by next August/September when I graduate school and start job hunting that I can wear that blazer to interviews.
  • Depends on you and how you feel working out on an empty stomach. I personally can't work out on a completely empty stomach. I need a little something, sometimes it's as light as a mug of tea with milk, usually a banana or a small cup of yogurt is about the amount of food I need to make it through the work out. Most…
  • Both, but tea much more frequently. I drink tea almost every day. Coffee is maybe once a week.
  • For much of my life I was frequently mistaken for being much younger than my age. When I put on substantial weight people guessed closed to my real age, or sometimes even a few years older. Now that I've taken off 30lbs, I'm starting to get guesses that are much younger than my real age again.
  • I think most people have found that MFP over estimates calories burned during exercise. So if you eat back all the calories you may see a stall in weight loss. However, eating back some of the calories works for most people as moderation between not starving and not over eating. Also bear in mind that body weight varies…
  • I'm doing the same. I've been eating at 1200-1300 to lose weight, but I'm going up to 1600-1700 over the holidays. I'll be traveling and visiting family for a week, and I'd rather leave myself the cushion than spend that time obsessing over my caloric intake and weight.
  • I find making a big meal or two on the weekends (that intentionally makes a lot of left overs) helpful. That way I have healthy yummy food just waiting for me when I get home after a long day. I also plan out what I am going to bring to campus for snacks and lunches when I go grocery shopping. I'm usually too lazy to…
  • As my doctor said, ultimately it doesn't matter if it is celiac's, allergy, or other form of intolerance, the end remedy is the same "don't eat it." My test results for celiac were inconclusive, but I'd also been eating gluten-free for a short while after doing my own elimination testing of potential problem foods. I do…
  • Healthy foods don't have to be super expensive. Try looking for in-season produce which is usually cheaper than out of season hot-house forced produce. Things like carrots and celery are almost always less than $1/lb and a little can go a long way to adding flavor and nutrition. If you are concerned about produce spoiling…
  • You have a few options 1) Call you doctor's office back and let them know symptoms are worse and you'd like a new appointment to discuss your concerns. 2) Call doctor's office and ask for a referral to a gynecologist or women's health NP, 3) call a nurse-advice line for further information and advice from a medical…
  • I am back tracking intake every day, every bite. I still have the massive cravings for pretty much any and all foods, but seeing how many calories I'm consuming can get me to put the cocoa down and not make another mug. Honestly it is really hard. I've always gained weight in the fall and winter due to the increased…

  • vitamin D (during the winter we have no sun)
  • Yes, I estimate. I'm trying to measure or weigh more of my food and beverages, but I certainly don't do it all. I've found that more that I do weigh and measure things though the better my estimates have gotten. In many cases my eyeballing something was shockingly off. Still, I figure it is better to have an estimated…
  • As long as you don't go over calories it shouldn't cause problems with losing weight. I think the bigger issue for some people is that eating late at night can impact sleep. For some people not getting adequate sleep leads to over eating. Unless it causes you to over eat or get poor sleep it is fine.
  • I am cold all the time, but then I was cold much of the time when obese too. I think in my case it is a matter of poor circulation. Staying well hydrated (which boosts blood volume) seems to help.
  • I don't understand all the posts I see about "hate" comments for losing weight or making lifestyle changes. Maybe I've just been incredibly fortunate in my family, friends, classmates, and workers, but people my life either have said nothing (most) or have made encouraging comments (few).
  • Glad I found this thread and am enjoying reading all of the suggestions here. I've ALWAYS gained weight in the winter, and for most of my life then very easily lost it all come spring. Since about mid-novemeber I've had major cravings for anything salty, sweet, and or greasy and I feel hungry all the time even though I…
  • Exercise does cause lower blood pressure. It is not unusual for there to be a temporary drop after cardiovascular exercise in particular. How soon after exercise are you checking? Eating more salt does help retain fluids which can help increase blood volume, however this only works if you are drinking adequate fluids…
  • I was on 25mg of lexapro for almost 2 years. I gained a lot of weight on it, and ultimately felt that it wasn't being that effective for either my depression or anxiety. I talked to my provider and switched to a different medication. I feel much better, and have lost all but the last couple of pounds of what I gained.
  • I think this idea comes from the fact that some people experience sleep difficulties when eating too close to their bed time. Hence it isn't a good idea to eat latter in the evening. If eating later in the evening doesn't affect your ability to sleep, leave you feeling super hungry in the afternoon, or make you under or…
