Keeps cutting off half my message ! Meant to say that 1200 calories will resume in the new year ! My maintenance calories will be 1597 Cals a day . Hoping I don't gain weight doing this ????0

I'm doing the same thing! Going up to 1600-1700. As long as you stay at or under your TDEE you shouldn't gain any fat, although you might put on some water weight!1
-
If that is your maintenance, you will not gain fat while eating that much. That said - you might see a (temporary) increase in scale weight over the holidays, especially if you carbs and sodium increase, if you indulge in alcoholic beverages, and increase in food in your digestive system. Don't freak out! This is mainly water weight that will reduce once you get back to "normal" eating.
I think it's a good plan... And not just because I plan to do the same thing .1 -

This. You may see a slight bump on the scale for a few days, but as long as you're not going way over your maintenance calorie level it will taper off after a few days1 -

I would be shocked if your maintenance was 1600...my guess is that you'll still be in a deficit...you're not going to gain weight eating a mere 1600 calories.1 -

My maintenance is around 1600... 5'4, 125lbs, and sedentary. It will most likely be a bit lower once I get to my goal weight. So 1600 maintenance isn't unrealistic.3 -

It seems really low if you do any exercise at all...my wife is 5'2" and 41 y.o...she easily eats around 2300 calories per day to maintain...she is a lean 125-130...she lifts once or twice per week and runs 4 or 5 days out of the week...nothing crazy.0 -
I'm doing the same. I've been eating at 1200-1300 to lose weight, but I'm going up to 1600-1700 over the holidays. I'll be traveling and visiting family for a week, and I'd rather leave myself the cushion than spend that time obsessing over my caloric intake and weight.0

I'm a couple inches taller than you, am around 130lbs and maintain in the 1,700-1,800 range so 1,600 sounds right to me (also sedentary ).1 -

I'm 5'7" 145-150 lbs and 36 years old. Without exercise my maintenance is only 1900. And that's set at lightly active. I don't like cardio, so I don't do much, so I don't get to eat much more than an average of 2000 per day to maintain. Maintenance of 1600 is not far fetched for a shorter woman.1 -

My maintenance -- at sedentary -- is 1,460. I eat a lot more than that because I'm not sedentary, but OP says she is. If OP truly is sedentary, 1,600 doesn't seem unusual.1 -

I suppose...I guess the people I'm surrounded with in real life are more active...most of the women I know workout regularly and eat far more than 1600 calories. That's what my wife ate to lose 1-1.5 Lbs per week...and like I said, she's short (5'2") as well.
Regardless, OP shouldn't be having all kinds of anxiety about eating maintenance for a short time...it's maintenance...you don't gain weight with maintenance calories...that's why it's called maintenance.0 -

I'm not seeing where she said she was sedentary...I generally assume people aren't truly sedentary. At any rate, she shouldn't be doing a bunch of hand wringing over maintenance...it's maintenance...0 -

Running 4-5 days a week (you didn't say how long/how far/what speed) sounds like a lot to me . Yes, very active people can eat a lot more. I ate 1600 to lose .5-1 lb per week without any exercise at all... It's good to be tall. I highly recommend it!
But, yes, maintenance won't make her gain, and any gains will be temporary water weight.

Just realized I read a response and mistakenly thought it was OP, you're right OP doesn't say she's sedentary.0 -

Oops, my fault. I must have been thinking of another thread.
Anyway, I completely agree -- not worth worrying about. Even *if* this somehow put OP over maintenance, she could make adjustments once she noticed weight gain.1 -
Sorry peeps forgot to say . Im 4ft 11 . Not got time to exercise at the min so yea my maintenance calories are quite low . The perks of being under 5ft1

Transitioning from 1200 to maintenance is going to let your body think it's time to retain water and add as much fat as possible. Don't worry. Drink water. You'll be ok. Merry Christmas.0

Her body is not going to add fat if she is eating at maintenance. By definition it's the number of calories required to maintain one's weight. Any weight increase will be water weight from glycogen replenishment (assuming an increase in carb intake) and additional food in the digestive system. Both will disappear within a couple of days of returning to a deficit.0
