  • I come from an over weight/obese family, and most of my relatives are also overweight/obese. I also used to be overweight, but I got my head out of my *kitten* and took care of it. Lost around 50lbs, improved all my health markers-including being the only one in my family who's reversed the progression of prediabetes AND…
  • I have no problem with it.
  • Aldi is my go-to store, but with the deal Meijer is running this week it worked out to be a bit cheaper to just go there this week. Aldi has great prices on both fresh and frozen produce though!
  • I kept thinking of this thread as I got groceries today and when I got home I had to take a quick picture of my trip. For a little under $127 I filled 2 carts at Meijer and then a basket at Family Fare (Spartan). My grocery budget is $100 so I went a bit over, but Meijer was running their 11/$10 deal, so I got a few extra…
  • We just moved from a college town and it was the norm to see college students pushing carts down the sidewalk with groceries-either the ones you can buy, or they just took them from the store (you'd see carts lined up in front of the apartments, which was kind of funny lol). This is the style that most of them use and I…
  • I just ate lunch and the grams broke down to this- (canned) chicken: 242g (bagged frozen) California blend veggies (broccoli, carrots and cauliflower): 198g white instant rice 46g (uncooked) sweet n' sour sauce: 3tbsp =486g of food, plus the sweet n sour sauce/559 calories I'm a 38 year old female/5ft, 6in/current weight…
  • The Dollar Tree stores in my area haven't done fresh produce yet, but they've started carrying bags of frozen fruit/veg for $1 each. The veggies I can get for the same price elsewhere, but that's a really good price on frozen strawberries, blueberries, mango etc. Great for smoothies :)
  • I've lost around 50lbs and have been successfuly in maintenance for around 4 years now and I've never tracked/cared about macros. The only number I keep an eye on is my calorie intake. Keeping things simple works best for me :)
  • Great! The ongoing thread (what I linked), is over in the challenge section :)
  • I don't eat in the morning because it makes me hungrier/more prone to snacking, for the rest of the day. I eat my first meal between 11am-noon and that works well for me.
  • A couple weeks ago it was like that here-I started the 800g veg/fruit challenge and then realized that there were NO good deals that week on produce. Cost me around $25, just for myself, to buy enough produce for me to do the challenge (that was a quarter of my family's grocery budget yikes!). This week is totally…
  • Dang girl! I just started drinking coffee and I do 2tbsp of flavored creamer and then 1/2 packet of artificial sweetener. And if I accidentally put the whole packet in I have to dump it because it's too sweet for me lol.
  • Yeah, no. I normalized a high/prediabetic glucose number while still eating sugar, and I'm the only one in my family who's reversed the progression of prediabetes. I also improved all my other health markers as well-things like a total cholesterol number of 143, heart disease risk ratio of 2.6 (anything under 5.0 is…
  • It's 800g total, in any sort of veg/fruit combination.
  • Yes, yes it is. And if you want to join the rest of us crazies who are actually doing the 800g veg/fruit challenge (10 a day), the more the merrier :D http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10521320/10-a-day-800g-veggie-fruit-challenge-participants-check-in/p1
  • Yep, flash freezing fruit is pretty easy :) I freeze a lot of blueberries and strawberries in the summer (get them from the U-pick farms for really cheap) http://pickyourown.org/freezingblueberries.htm I also freeze a lot of corn, which is a bit more time consuming but it preserves the 'fresh' corn on the cob taste really…
  • I've done various IF protocols going on 5 years now, 4 of those while being in maintenance. IF helps me stick to my calorie goals, which is just as important during maintenance, as it is during the weight loss phase :)
  • This. Meal timing/frequency/what foods you're eating/not eating don't matter for weight loss. The ONLY thing that does matter is that you're at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals.
  • Correct. And again-exercise is not a bad thing and is good for overall health, but it's best to not rely on it too heavily for weight loss :)
  • :D It still weirds my husband out that I don't eat in the morning, he's a definite breakfast first thing person!
  • Will read the link, but what about those of us who don't eat at all in the morning? eta: can't access the link without paying, so going to pass on reading it.
  • But sugar cereal doesn't cause obesity-eating at a calorie surplus does. One can incorporate veggies AND cereal into a healthy, balanced diet :)
  • So many different things can come into play for weight gain, and it really will vary between people. For me personally-it was just not understanding how calories actually worked-more specifically what those words 'serving size' actually meant :p Once I figured that out though, losing the extra 50lbs was a fairly easy…
  • We've all been there-back when I started my weight loss phase I had NO idea what the heck I was doing lol.
  • Weight loss is a fairly straightforward process-the only thing that needs to happen is that you're at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals. Meal timing and meal frequency don't matter. What kinds of foods you eat don't matter either. The only thing that matters is that calorie deficit :)
  • MFP's forum participants are a large, diverse group of people who have varied backgrounds/histories/education/goals etc. I've been a part of numerous forums, and hands down the group of people that hang out on MFP are the most solid bunch that I've interacted with, and I learn new things here all the time. Also, MFP has a…
  • Actually for weight loss it's really not. There's quite a few of us who've hit our weight loss goals without exercise factored in. Not saying to not exercise, but also realize that it has a pretty minimal impact on weight loss (besides giving you a few more calories to eat, though a lot of times exercising makes you feel…
  • It also depends on what items stores are using as their loss leaders for the week. There can be a signficant price difference between two stores in the same town, at the same time, depending on this. So many variables go into the pricing of food!
  • Unless you have a medical condition that requires you to limit your sugar intake, then no sugar isn't bad (within the context of your calorie intake goals). Many of us don't even track our sugar intake (I've switched to fiber tracking for that column in my food diary).
  • I'm still here, though last week I kind of got off track and stopped tracking my intake (for all my food). I've been experimenting with my new discovery of coffee and have been playing with different add-ins, and now I'm pretty sure my calorie intake has gone waaay up (darn you amazing Almond Joy coffee creamer!).…
